Adam Baldwin has had an interesting career in acting. He has taken up some lead roles which he has become very popular for. Most Adam Baldwin Movies are action filled. He is known to play men in authority and mostly tough guys which might be as a result of his looks. It has been hard for him to break away from this stereotype roles. He has had lead roles in Full Metal Jacket (1987), Firefly (2002-03), Serenity (2005) and Chuck (2007-2012). In 2006, he won a SyFy Genre Award for Best Supporting Actor Television for his feature as Jayne Cobb in TV Series Firefly.
Another aspect of his career which has made him prominent is as a voice actor. He does have a deep voice that resonates and has voiced some really good characters in animations and video games.
Biography
Adam was born in Winnetka, Illinois, United States on the 27th of February 1962. He schooled at New Trier Township High School in East, Winnetka.
His acting career dates back to the 80’s where he first featured in My Bodyguard (1980) as Ricky Linderman-a traumatized young man who puts up a violent façade to conceal an inner pain. However, Adam’s height and build might be the reason why he is always cast in the stereotypical roles of the ‘tough guy’.
Adam seems to have featured in more television series than in movies and has had more interesting roles in the television. He has featured in close to 50 films and over 50 television series/movie. Despite having being in the industry for awhile, he hasn’t had any major award win in his career.

Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Adam features as Animal Mother in this war movie. He was a very good machine gunner who took pride in killing their enemy soldiers. His performance in the film remains one of his most prominent roles in his acting career. With a budget of $30 million, the film grossed $120million worldwide. It generally received positive reviews from critics and has a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film had eleven nominations worldwide including an Academy, Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards. It won five of the awards.
Firefly (2002-2003)
Adam features as one of the chosen 9 crew members of Serenity in this space drama TV Series. The series chronicles the lives of war survivors and how they try to make a life for themselves. The series averaged a total of 4.7 million viewers during the first 3 months of its premiere and went ahead to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series in 2003 despite its early cancellation. It also has 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes. His role as the macho Jayne Cobb – a Mercenary who can be depended on in a fight earned him a SyFy Genre Award for Best Supporting Actor. About his role, Adam admits that it was really heartbreaking when the show was cancelled. He describes his character (Jayne) as someone that could be funny, bad, good, and selfish or a total slob but can do no wrong in his eye. He reveals that it is a role of a lifetime.
Ordinary People (1980)
He featured as Kevin Stillman in this drama film. The movie follows the lives of an upper-middle class Illinois family. It highlights their slow but painful disintegration as one of their sons accidentally dies and the other attempts suicide. Adam’s character is a schoolmate to the younger son (Conrad) that attempts suicide. They get into a fist fight which is a result of Conrad’s inability to communicate. The film was outstanding and successful all round. It earned 6 Academy Awards nominations and won 4 of them. It won 5 Golden Globe Awards. It has a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was a success in the box office with a $54.8 million gross from a $6 million budget.
Chuck (2007- 2012)
Adam features as Colonel John Casey a main cast in the action-comedy television series. The series follows the life of Chuck Bartowski an unmotivated but intelligent computer service expert who gets expelled from Stanford University on false cheating charges. By an email from his former , he becomes entangled in a CIA/NSA database theft. John Casey (Adam Baldwin) and a CIA Officer are sent to investigate and protect him. Adam was one of the first actors to be casted as Chris Fedak always had him pegged for the role from the onset. The series had a total of 5 seasons with 91 episodes. The show had positive reviews and with critics and audience. It has 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received notable nominations and awards which includes an Emmy, People’s Choice, Saturn, TV Guide and Teen Choice Awards. Ironically, Adam didn’t get any nomination or award for his prominent role.
Serenity (2005)
The science fiction film is a continuation of the well-received but short-lived TV series Firefly. Adam features in his former role as Jayne Cobb in the film. The film didn’t do well in the box office despite its high anticipation and positive reviews. With an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film barely broke even with a gross of $38.9-40.3 million against a $39 million budget. Ironically, the film went ahead to win several awards among them are the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Prometheus Special Award and the Nebula Award for Best Script to mention a few. Among its many accomplishment is that Steven Swanson (NASA astronaut) who is a lover of the series took the DVD with him to Space. It permanently resides in the International Space Station as entertainment for station crew.
My Bodyguard (1980)
This was one of Adam first prominent role in the movie industry. He featured as Ricky Linderman an outcast and troubled youth whom a victimized teenager seeks protection from. He is the school bully and puts up a violent façade to conceal an inner pain. Adam’s portrayal was believable and real which paved the way for the bigger roles he got in his career. The film was a success in all ramifications. It has an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes and was grossed $22.5 million with a budget of $3 million.
The X-Files (1993- 2018)
The television series is a science fiction drama with 11 seasons and over 200 episodes. The series is built around two FBI Agents who investigates X-Files- mostly marginalized unsolved cases that involve paranormal phenomena. Adam features as Knowle Rohrer and was one of the first people transformed into Super Soldiers. The series received lots of positive reviews with many critics praising it as one of the best series ever made. It has a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show has received several prestigious awards and nominations through all it seasons since inception. It has a total of sixty two Emmy nominations and sixteen awards, twelve Golden Globe nominations with five wins and fourteen SAGS Awards with two wins amongst many other awards.
Independence Day (1996)
Adam features as Major Mitchell in this very successful science fiction film. The film follows the journey of a group of people who converge in the Nevada desert after an attack from an unknown extraterrestrial race attack. His character was the commanding officer who despite being aware of the aliens’ existence sided with Thomas Whitmore and William Grey. He starred alongside established actors like Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, Vivaca A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman to mention a few. The film received world acclaim upon release and grossed $817.4 million against a $75 million budget. It also has 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Amongst its accomplishments is an Academy award and being the highest grossing film in 1996.
The Patriot (2000)
Adam features as Captain James Wilkins in the historical war film. It highlights the story of an American Colonist who gets entangled in the American Revolutionary War but is a loyalist to the British crown. Adam’s character is an officer in the Colonial Loyalist militia and realizes too late that he has been fighting for the wrong side. The film was a success in the box office with a gross of $215.3 million against a budget of $110 million. The reviews from critics were also favourable and it has a score of 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards and earned several guild awards.
The Kid (2019)
Adam features in this semi-biographical action film which is set in the west as Bob Olinger. The movie highlights the journey of Rio Cutler who pallies with the local sheriff and an outlaw- Billy the Kid in a bid to save his sister from gang leader- Grant Cutler. The film has had positive reviews so far and has been described as well cast and framed. In terms of awards it is difficult to conclude as it was released in 2019. The film was a flop in the box office grossing $1.55 million against a budget of $7 million.
