Dear Toybox,
My name is Adam Dundon. I am 14 years old and I am in year 10 at the Friary school in Lichfield. I live in the middle of England, in the Midlands in the city of Lichfield. Lichfield is a rather wealthy place, well certainly not in any poverty. We have a large cathedral, which has 3 spires, which Lichfield is quite famous for.
In school recently we have been learning about your charity “Toybox”. We have watched a video about everything that is going on in South America at the moment.
We have learnt what Toybox does for the street children and to help against poverty. I think that the helpers who go out to get the street children and risk their lives are amazing people.
I was shocked to learn about how parents kick their children out so early or sometimes they just drown them at birth. I think that the fact that there is no real police force to catch murderers and thieves is atrocious.
The parents view on children in Guatemala is so much different to the way adults and parents look at children in the UK and most other countries, they aren’t really given any respect as children, treated more like animals than children.
I really admire the Toybox worker’s bravery to go out and risk their lives, to go out and help under-privileged street children who are scared, have guns and have never trusted adults in their lives. The street children would defiantly shoot the workers if they had to, and that’s a risk that the workers have to take but they do a good job in earning the children’s trust and trying to get them to come and live in one of the Toybox homes where their standards of living will be so much higher.
Now we have been learning about Toybox, I have felt a lot more privileged about what we now have. I am just glad to have parents who will protect me and to have a warm home to live in. We are lucky to have an active working police force to prevent murders and other crimes, unlike in Guatemala where criminals, murderers and those types of people who an literally get away with murder, they can just run riot with no one to really stop them or enforce the laws.
I have enjoyed learning about the Toybox charity, what it does and about the workers that help the street children in Guatemala, I look forwards to learning more about the Guatemalan street children and also the Toybox charity and its workers sometime in the future, I wish you the best of luck with continuing with your incredible charity.
Yours sincerely,
Adam Dundon
