In art and craft pupils should be given opportunity to explore, carry out activities and investigate. Parents and teachers should find ways of motivating them so that they can love and learn art and craft. Sometimes carry out these activities can be very discouraging and frustrating to them and may make them to hate and dislike art. Motivating pupils in art class can be challenging.
Most of the pupils are un motivated to learn art and craft because they don’t think they are good at it.
The teacher as to find out by asking pupils do you wish you could draw or paint better? Most of the times you will find that pupil have the desire to learn they just don’t know how to do it. Once the teacher determine that the student has desire to learn art and craft then structure how to help that pupil for example provision of drawing materials to use for example pencil, crayons, brush, paint, drawing book.
The teacher or parent should assist him or her while working out for example while drawing. Anything that the child draws the teacher or parent should praise him/her for motivation
Art and craft is more interesting when pupils feel some way of connection to it. Pupils are most motivated when subject is relevant to their interest. For example pupils like to make art and craft things that involve them or their family because they are at the age where it is most important thing to them.
Also giving pupils a choice in what they create will provide stronger motivation, as well as keep them engaged.
Sometimes pupils thick that being artistic or ability to draw is a talent that was inborn learned. The teacher or parents should express to pupils that the ability comes from passion, desire and a lot of practice. The teacher or parent should educate them that being skilled artistically is similar to being athletically or musically. These people build their skills by practicing and developing good working habits clarity that term skill and talent to mean a passion for art and craft or desire for art. Discuss with pupils how they can practice what they are excited about and therefore in that process pupils becomes motivated and becomes better in art and craft.
Learners are motivated when they see their hard work pay off. To encourage and maintain self-motivation the teacher or parents should engage pupils in doing the activity, for example if it is printing or painting the student must also see how their work has improved overtime. Appreciate and praise their work motivation depends upon how they have grown as an artist. The teacher or the parent should have pupils keep an art portfolio to assess their growth and compare their work.
Unpredictable positive reinforcement can have more impact on a pupil more so than reliable predictable rewords. Teachers and parents who are quietly enthusiastic about pupils art work will find that pupils will gain self-worth. Great art teachers look for teachable moments that will reinforce for example, a teacher may say, ‘‘I really like how you have done painting ’’ or ‘‘look at how your work has improved since your last piece’’ choosing the right opportunity to make a positive comments can be great motivator to a pupil.
Once pupils are given the tools to improve their artistic ability, the ultimate goal is for them to emerge with passion and become a self-motivator by discouraging negativism (“ I can’t draw” and encouraging practice and practice, teachers and parents can turn un motivated students into self-motivating artists
When parents or teachers are drawing something representing while a young child is sketching, it can frustrate him or her and let him know that you are interested and supportive to his art and craft. This will motivate the pupil and encourage him or her when a child finishes a piece work don’t suggest additions or changes. It’s important for a pupil to feel that what she’s created is enough even if it’s a dot on the page. This will motivate her/him and not frustrating them.
Intrinsic motivation is the desire to take on a task simply because it is enjoyable and interesting. The teacher should motivate pupils by allowing them to do a lot of activities which are interesting and enjoyable for example they may be given to paint; draw, coloring the teacher or parent may identify perennial interest and motivating factors. The teacher also may talk to pupils individually and sometimes class discussions the teacher may encourage learning environment that foster both indepent learning and cooperative learning as part of a group. Allow pupils to choose their work. Allow them to freely partake learning process by choosing their own activity.
Intrinsic motivators will be improved by allowing some choice for pupils to take on assignments that they find individual fulfilling. This will motivate pupils to learn art and craft. Students are motivated by passionate parents or teachers. The teacher should get excited about what he/she is teaching; have fun and present materials in unique ways. Be excited about students successes, about art about their own work and your excitements will sub on your students. Displaying their art work is very important, it motivate pupil’s brain and appreciates their work and other pupils work. It motivates pupils seeing all these vanities of what they have made all the way through.
Having pupils have different styles, pattern of making things in art and craft will help pupils discover individuals they like. This means introducing them to different artists in various styles and mediums. Start with things that they like for example drawing coloring them narrow down. This motivates pupils to discover artist they appreciate and inspired by because they learn to identify that artists and feel affinity towards them. For example if pupils are taken to the museum, they are excited to see that artists work in person.
Art and craft is very broad. There is certain area where each pupil can succeed. As a teacher or parent help them to find one area for example if a pupil is a technology oriented , have them explore with Photoshop, every pupil is good at something in art and craft once the child figure out what it is they will be motivated in life.
Art museum can be exciting place if pupils are taken to such places. Motivate pupils by giving them tasks, while they are there, for example provide pupils with materials such as for drawing pencils, crayons, plasticines and ask them to draw and colour or even model what they are seeing in doing so it will motivate them to have and learn art. The teacher may invite a resource person or a speaker. The speaker may give a wide spectrum of what it means art work. Ask guest to show their work and demonstrate new techniques. This will motivate pupils to learn art and craft.
In this error of technology, the teachers or parent may use internet, videos to allow pupils to watch cartoons, drawing pictures using computers, painting, pupils will even get more motivated if they learn to use them in class or even home. Those pupils who can carry out activities and those who cannot should be thought equally. Parents and teachers should find ways of motivating all of them. Nothing makes an art pupil fell valued than their teacher or parent asking for their opinion.
