Attending College
Students attend college for a variety of reasons, some people attend college in pursuit of knowledge, some choose to attend for the social aspect, even others attend college without any purpose in mind. The idea of the most compelling example attend college is not so cut and dry, ultimately what is compelling comes down to the individual.
One might argue that college should be about exploration of oneself, others may argue that college should be about the pursuit of knowledge.
The idea of the most compelling should be more focused on what is the nobler cause. A world full of ign nce is lesser than a world full of knowledge. It is in this regard that the strongest argument for college, and any form of continuing education in that matter, is made.
Society is only as strong as the sum of it’s parts. As history has shown, those who fail to adapt and use knowledge simply cease to exist.
Knowledge then, becomes a tool that society can use to improve upon itself. College therefore, is a means to acquire that knowledge. The most compelling aspect of this being that those who have the knowledge each contribute to making the world a better place. Not only can knowledge be used to make the world a better place, but also as a way to leave behind a legacy.
Mankind has always been obsessed with the idea of leaving behind a legacy, knowledge is special in that it transcends time. The great ideas in the world are passed down through generations either by word of mouth or by diligent record keeping, having your name connected to such a great idea is a sure way to leave your mark on the world.
Whether you aim to leave your mark on the world, or to simply make it a better place, higher education is the first step in that process. There is no better cause, and no more of a compelling reason one can think of than to make the world a better place.
