Racism is almost a taboo subject to most of the citizens. Almost like sex and pornography it is shunned by most people. They rather not talk about but they know it’s there and they know unlike sex or pornography, racism is wrong. America was started by people who did not want to be neglected by their country or told what to do in their country, so these people decided to leave their country and begin a new country. Now, I see something wrong here.
Call me crazy but aren’t we going against our own believes here as Americans by oppressing other races in these United States ??
I don’t know but maybe the racism in this country is so clear that people see right through it? I take a walk from one class to another on campus and I know what groups of people would accept me and what groups wouldn’t. Now as white kid I don’t think I can fully understand being black or a minority but I can only imagine how much harder it must be.
I admit if I was black I probably would look at a white person with a negative attitude. As a white kid though I ask myself, why do black people feel as though I don’t like them just because I am white? or ill wonder why they don’t like because I am white. Also, I often wonder and find somewhat wrong that fraternities and sororities are in a way segregated. One of my first days of school I was asking an upperclassmen about frats because I was interested in joining one eventually, but I quickly changed my mind.
After two weeks of school I realized it is almost as though a frat goes against everything that is wrong with this country. It separates people into groups and because of this there is almost hidden animosity against the other group.
Just this past weekend I was hanging out with a bunch of friends watching the Minnesota Vikings game. I want to try to make it clear that people do know that their is racism hidden within almost everything. Now whether the statement I heard made is true or not I think the person had some kind of point. Dennis Green is the Vikings coach and he has been involved in discussions about racism in the NFL. He has asked questions such as, Why there isn’t many black head coaches and made statements such as black quarterbacks don’t get a shot to make it in the NFL. So as we are watching the game Randall Cunningham throws yet another interception.
He is off to a horrible season and nothing is going right for him. That’s when I heard this, This fucking nigger wont take him out because he wants to give a nigger a shot!, well I heard this and I sat back for a second. I thought to myself this could be true, But then again we are talking about a great quarterback here. So I did not know what to think. I thought about this way, any other team this year with a struggling starting quarterback has benched him for some amount of time and that’s usually the way it goes. If your not producing you get benched, but is Green trying to prove something. Something he feels so strongly about its worth a loss or two or three.
