Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was an Indian philosopher and statesman who served as the first Vice President of India (1952–1962) and the second President of India (1962–1967). He was one of the most influential scholars of comparative religion and philosophy in the world. Radhakrishnan was also a reputed academician and was the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University during 1931–1936.nRadhakrishnan was born into a Telugu Brahmin family in a village near Thiruttani, India. His father was a school headmaster, and his mother was a homemaker. Radhakrishnan had his early education in Tiruttani and Tirupati. He graduated from Voorhees College in Vellore and then went on to study at Madras Christian College. He obtained his master’s degree in arts from the University of Madras.nRadhakrishnan was married to Sivakamu, a woman from a Tamil family, in 1906.
