In spite of decline in traditional career option trends, alternative areas of career growth are showing salary hikes and beneficial returns. According to Businessinsider.com (2017) Top five career trends has been chosen from those options for this assignment.
- Health Care and Social Assistance – Healthcare sector is going to see some major shift in future. The career opportunities will increase in each levels and pay scale will increase as well.
- Computer Network Professionals and technicians – Professional of this sector are high in demand and in near future, lucrative pay scale and promotional opportunities are waiting for them.
- Education and training sector – Australian educational board decided to hire at least one early childhood teacher in every kindergarten. Due to this law, education sector is going to see huge recruitment phase in future.
- Retail trade – This sector has emerged as a champion for recruitment and business development in recent era. However, the business has chances to grow more in near future. Recently, the main sector in retail trade are fashion and clothing, which will shift to other sector as well.
- Marketing consultant – this sector is going to grow with particular boom for jobs for startups. In this era of entrepreneurs and startups, role of market consultants and analyzers are very important.
The government of Australia undertakes surveys and researches of employment trends to understand the developmental policies and program deliveries. According to Lmip.gov.au (2017), the Australian market shows positive results. With fall in unemployment rates and increased job adverts Australian job market is quite suitable for career-minded people. However, in this increasing job market, few jobs have lost its identities and going to decrease drastically (van Nooten et. al., 2017).
- Full time jobs are going to face a bad period as people of Australia has shown more interests to part time or casual works. According to a report, more than 68 percent of young Australians has started their career with part time or casual jobs rather than a full time work (Hotline & Hotline, 2017).
- Scientific research, technical services and wholesale market seen major declines recently. Trade of manufacturing units gets down by 2.3 percent, which affects mother companies drastically. However, employment in mining revived a bit, but that revival need to be seen through the glass of large decline back in 2012 when 47300 people were forced to leave their jobs (Bonoli, 2017).
- The job trends of future is going to be more skill oriented and people with skill will have more opportunities than others. Within these skilled jobs, nursing will be prevailing. These already known professionals are going to have better pay scale and career promotion plans. Nurses are always in high demand across the nation and projections shows that this profession will be one of the fastest growing occupation by 2025 (Tan & Lester, 2012).
- Space research scientists are going to have a huge pay scale as the Australian government is going to spend lucrative amount of fund to government driven space researches. The Australian Space Research Institute has already started increasing its energy capacities and vacancies will be generating soon (Businessinsider.com, 2017).
- Education professional will have lucrative career as the government is concerned about the educational sector. After imposing the law of at least one early childhood teacher in every preschool, the vacancy for those teachers have increased drastically (Hotline & Hotline, 2017).
Trends of this future job market has been set up depending on some criteria like climate, culture and educational trends (Choi & Varian, 2012).
- The recent work culture of Australia focuses on part time or casual works than full time jobs. Recent studies shows that 68 percent of educated Australian start their career with a part time job. Likewise, people are more interested in starting their own business or in other words, in startups. Hence, people with proper market knowledge and trends are in demand. Market consultants therefore has a brighter future in every aspect (Hajkowicz et. al., 2016).
- Likewise, due to increasing pollution level and risks related to health, the nursing and healthcare sector going to see huge increase in their market.
- Education is the base of a successful career and after formation of the Law, there is ease and security in this job. Therefore, the young Australian is interested to start their career with this sector rather than other fulltime jobs (Weldon, 2015).
- This era is all about speed and accuracy. People need comfort and wealth in minimal time and for that, they are more focused to their career than any other aspects of their life. Online retail market takes this opportunity to spread their limit by providing those people with all the essential commodities they need. Starting from clothing and groceries, medicines, automobiles as well can be ordered using this market. Hence, the future trend of this market is very positive (Landers et. al., 2015)
- The entire world is focusing on Automation and implication of robotics into production, manufacturing sectors, which has generated the need of computer networking professionals and technicians. Australian government as well started projects with funding to develop the skills which intern will generate vacancies (Bonoli, 2017).
To examine the career options in future market, healthcare sector has been chosen. the career options in this sector are – residential medical officer, registered nurse, general practitioner, medical officer, midwifery and so on (Mosadeghrad, 2014). Within which, role of general practitioner and registered nurses are prevalent. In this career, the tasks, which need to be performed, are:
- To conduct examinations and surveys by questioning patients to define the nature of illness and disorders they are suffering from.
- Conducting laboratory tests and other diagnostic processes like x-rays to find the exact reason for those illnesses by interpreting the results.
- Provide proper care and assistance to patients, prescribing proper medicines and many other remedial measures (Myfuture.com, 2017).
- Monitoring the progresses and responses of patients to medications and treatment procedures.
- Providing the patients with diet charts, exercise routines, and other habits that enhances the immunity and aid preventions.
- Managing the data of deaths and births daily and reporting them to government authority. Record of other notifiable disease also need to be taken. These professionals also record arrangement of patients into hospital.
The skill level or educational qualification required to build career in this sector is bachelor’s degree or first degree (Myfuture.com, 2017). Within this, some jobs require graduate diploma, certificate, or master’s degree. Sometimes A registration or licensing of some professions are required. Medical studies are necessary and people need to study subjects like physical education, biology, chemistry and health (Mosadeghrad, 2014).
The salary of a graduate candidate is likely to be $70,000 and further this vary on the basis of the location they work, qualification they have and experience of work and seniority (Sousa et. al., 2013). General physician earns more than a general practitioner does as they have more experience than the physicians do. Seniority does not depend on the age of the candidate, it is completely dependent on the experience and educational qualification they bear and hence people can expect great promotional opportunities once they are in this sector. General Nurse is promoted to registered nurse and if they can continue their practice, they can be further promoted to higher positions (Mosadeghrad, 2014). Likewise, if a microbiologist who performs laboratory tests performs better than the quality control chief he can be promoted to that place as well. Therefore, Australian work culture is all about work experience and accuracy.
Experience in this sector can lead an employ to be successful in the area of other health sectors as well. Like if a healthcare counselor gathers enough knowledge about nutrition and gets a degree or certificate for that from government, he/she can easily be promoted to a post of nutritionist of therapist. Similarly, one general practitioner will be promoted to general physician if they perform better (Torchia, Calabrò, & Morner, 2015). However, core medical certificated does not allow people to get a job that require some different skills. The remuneration of healthcare sector is so high that people career mined Australian will never leave such opportunity to grow their career.
Step 1: Five predicted career trends
The values that healthcare industry brings to the society depends on the performance and accountability of all the stakeholders. However, the goals of healthcare stakeholders are countless and conflicting and those include high quality, profitability, patient oriented, and completely focused on their satisfaction (Beveridge, 2014). Lack of simplicity about the goals about goals has controlled to different approaches, and slow progress in improvement of the patient. Furthermore, value is defined as outcome, which are relative to cost, and includes efficiency. Healthy society can bring life to the work culture and if work culture is healthy people can focus more on their career leading to increase in the economy of the state. It creates a mental framework where one is always ready to help the other (Rose et. al., 2015).
Impact of healthcare to economy is tremendously increasing (Bitzer & Glasbergen, 2015). Due to global warming and Poor air quality index of entire the world, especially in-developed countries are leading to several incurable infections. People are suffering from different bacteria and viruses that are completely unknown to the medical science. Therefore, the need of research has increased and hence so many new vacancies are being generated. Even hospitals are charging huge amounts from the patients hence the salaries of healthcare workers are being increased (Torchia, Calabrò, & Morner, 2015).
According to the Weforum.org (2017) in the previous economic year, people have spent around $6.5 trillion in healthcare and within that, 40 to 50 percent is wastage.
The work that does not generate any direct remuneration is named as unpaid work. Furthermore, these are Non-market work, which falls into two categories: unpaid works that contributes to GDP like NGOs and others are unpaid works that does not contribute to GDP like domestic or household works. The chosen Volunteer organization to examine an unpaid job is Red Cross Australia Australian Red Cross is the member of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. It has millions of members that operates in nearly 190 countries (Redcross.org.au, 2017)
The job aspects in this sectors are: mental health trainer, first aid officer, care manager casual first aid trainer and so on. Within these, job of mental health trainer or first aid trainer is preferred as these jobs has better scopes for further development. The reason people go for unpaid jobs are:
- It is a good addition in the resume as building a strong resume is the first step to get an ideal job. According the static data, people without an internship are behind those who have done internship.
- It helps people to decide what they will be doing after their qualification.
- It can help to get a reference letter from someone very renowned. Letter from those people can enhance the chance of getting better career options.
- Sometimes better performance in unpaid job can help candidates to grab a fulltime work.
The educational qualification needed for such jobs are bachelor’s degree of related job fields. However being shifted to a paid job from such unpaid jobs depend on the perfect opportunity and help from those unpaid organizations. Recommendation from those organizations helps employees to get better opportunities and better remuneration from other organizations.
While being transferred to a paid job is dependent on the organization and duration of experience, the type of work that employee will do depends on the area of expertise. A mental health trainer will be offered a job of same profile or may be a general counsellor. Likewise, first aid trainer can be promoted to general nurse or first aid expert.
The impact of such jobs on society is positive from all aspects. People can grow the idea of their work field with ease of experiments and without any severe workload. Whereas, those people can evolve socially as well (Rose et. al., 2015). They learn to help the society without demanding anything. More than 70 percent of people, who have worked in such unpaid organizations in Australia, have genuine and honest records of accomplishment and follow all the work ethics (Beveridge, 2014).
Step 2: Increasing and decreasing job market
This kind of service affects the economy of the state as well. The funding they get from global organizations for betterment and progress of the society contributes directly to the economy (Sweet & Meiksins, 2015). They even generate finance from their own activities. Rural branches of those organizations provides job to the citizen and help them to contribute like all other mainstream citizen (Bitzer & Glasbergen, 2015).
To examine the current recruitment market the firm that has been chosen is Hay.com, which recruits healthcare professions (Choudaha & Chang, 2012). The major competitors of this recruitment firm are:
- Health staff recruitment
- Australian nursing agency
- Australian recruiting group
- Phoenix executive search & recruitment
- Bower healthcare
According to forbes.com (2017), the trends that companies are going to follow for betterment of the company as well as the employees are:
- Generally, companies focus on the relationship between them and the customers to delight them, gain loyalty and generate revenues. However, the trends are in favor of the employees, as companies will focus to reestablish their relationship with their own employees.
- Employees nowadays want to get instant feedback from their employers instead of waiting for an entire year for appraisals. Especially younger generation wanted to know their strengths and weakness to improve as soon as possible. Trends shows change in this area and continuous reviews will replace it (Hotline & Hotline, 2017).
- People are nowadays moving to freelancing and part time jobs rather than fulltime jobs with less exposure. According to trends, companies will increase vacancies for such freelancers as they can work side by side with other fulltime workers.
According to these trends of Lmip.gov.au (2017), Ramsay health care company has been chosen. The company was established back in 1964 and heritage and brand name is one of the biggest reasons for choosing this company. However, the reviews about this company, area of expertise and review about that post has been checked prior to apply.
Three ways to seek employment in this renowned company are:
- Proper knowledge of the subject prior to apply. Professionals with graduate degree and better experience in healthcare sector can apply.
- Communication skills are another major factor as it is a multinational company and employees may be transferred to other continents like USA and many more.
- Analytical and problem solving skills are another factor that the recruiter focus before hiring employees.
the recruitment option chosen to get through job would have been the one where one can get the chance to research, review and evaluate himself to understand how these paid or unpaid jobs relates with economy and society. As working with an unpaid organization leads people to learn the work profile properly without any stress. After gaining some experience and reference from renowned people, moving to such multinational company would be beneficial. Handling the stress and work pressure will be easier because of the experience from the unpaid organization.
