Semantics importance
Question 1
The rational interpretation of significance is the scientific study of meaning in natural and artificial ways. Semantics are important because they help us understand each other based on the fact that there are several different languages and if we did not find a way of conveying meaning then no one would understand each other. On the other hand, its principal disadvantage is that semantic has resulted to reduced processing speed of ambiguous words in comparison to unambiguous words resulting to slower processing of meaning from search engines. Mastering concepts do not necessarily mean that one will represent their purpose in their actions. One may master ideas to help them perform specific tasks after which they will embark on their original meaning. In logical formalism, particular concepts are left out. They include grammatical features irrelevant to logic, for example, categorization and gender. Secondly, we have the replacement of conjunctions irrelevant to thesis such as but with logical combinations such as “but” and finally alternating ambiguous expressions such as “any, every” with regular expressions such as all.

Question 4
Compound machines are more prototypical types of machines. They are made from a collection of simple machines. They are most highly common types of machines. Complex machines are known to perform more complex work compared to other machines. Due to this factor, they are more advantageous. Some of the examples of compound machines include wheelbarrows and bicycles. In a bicycle for example, axle systems and cooperating wheels are formed by wheels and pedal. Brakes serve as levers while multiple screws hold together the other parts. Wheel, lever and axle are combined to form a wheelbarrow.
Simple machines are less prototypical. Their functionality involves application of single force to a single pulley, due to this; working with simple machines is a bit slower and tiresome. This is why simple machines are always integrated to make more complex and compound machines to speed up their functionality. For example, one will require a lot of energy to work with a screw which a cylindrical shaft than the one that has grooves. It passes through or moves rotationally through an object when force is applied on it.
Power tools are more prototypical. They are speedy and thus end up saving time. Cutting through a log of a tree is very fast and secure. One who is using does not need complicated skills to enable them perform their work as the machine does most of the work. The user needs to only know how to handle the machine effectively. For example, a chain saw empowers its user with the control and power that he or she need to perform their task. A powered saw with the right grids is also able to cut through metals such as nail.
Logical formalism
A hand tool is any tool that is powered by hand rather than a motor. They are less prototypical. One takes a lot of time to complete simple tasks while using hand tools. Take for a case where one is cutting a log using a hand saw, it is more of time consuming and dangerous. More skills are also required to enable one work properly with hand tools. It is a great challenge if not all for a company to meet its work demand through the use of hand tools. For instance, cutting logs for a paper processing company using handsaws is extremely slow as the company will never make its demands.
Based on the occasion, for example weddings and engagements, handmade jewelries are more prototypical. They are made with more appealing and elegant looks since individuals and people tend to be very keen when curving them. For example, a ring, cuts and moulds are perfectly paired for any pair of ring. Machine made jewelries are marginal. They are more delicate and need extra carefulness when handling them. For example engagement rings.
Cooked vegetables are more prototypical compared to raw vegetables since cooking is crucial to our diets. Cooking helps us to digest food without expending out vast amounts of energy. It also makes food soft so that our small teeth and jaws can find it easy to handle them. For example, cooked tomatoes are easy to consume than raw ones. Therefore, cooked vegetables are easier to consume than raw ones and hence they as prototype.
Medicine is a prototypical career compared to banking career. This is because doctors enjoy high job security; they are well paid and highly respected in the society. For example, a neurosurgical doctor is paid well than a bank teller.
Question 5
Some of the attributed of the category car include:
Fuel efficiency
Ground clearance
Anti-breaking system
Inner space and storage space
Better or improved AC system
Given the shooting prices of fuel in the world, the prototype category should be able to burn fuel efficiently to help minimize fuel prices costs. Considering that most parts of the world are ever hot, cars should be fitted with better AC systems.
Question 6
The car went under the bridge.
The rug is under the table.
The wall is under the painting.
She’s working under a hot sun.
He put the box under his arm.
Compound and complex machines
He wore socks under his shoes.
She is feeling under the weather.
He was under the influence.
Under |
Below or beneath Directly below At a lower level than Controlled by |
I would say that beneath, underneath and under are near synonyms, they both mean that something is lower than something else. The essential difference is in the register. Beneath is more formal, more literary. Therefore I can use the same table. Some of the advantages of diagrammatic representations include; creation of high impression: People, in general, have a craving, and love for beautiful pictures, and for this, they see them with rapt attention and care. As such the diagrams create a more lasting effect in the minds of people. Moreover, the charts are very much catching and impressive, and for this only, the recent advertisements are mostly made through beautiful diagrams and pictures. Secondly, they are attractive: Diagrams, per se, are beautiful as they delight the eyes and appeal to the mind of the people in general. Because of this, they are vaguely used in meetings, conferences, fairs, exhibitions, and other public function. Moreover, facts stated through figures look tense, dry, and dull, and facts represented through helpful and colorful diagrams impress the people very much. On the other hand, they are disadvantageous in that they only give only a birds-eye-view or an overall picture of a phenomenon. For a layman who is not capable of going into the details, this sort of image is not enough.
Question 7
There is an interrelationship between different theoretical constructs in cognitive semantics despite many theoretical views. One cannot understand concepts without first understanding where they are defined from. Mental operations are represented by conceptual structures. Image schemas represent a particular example of field. They interrelate with theoretical constructs to bring out the meaning. For example, a child gradually learns what takes place at some occasions but their learning hovers around the diagrammatical representations of the event. For instance, in a case where an object passes near a child, it will be highly possible for the child to remember the purpose through remembrance of its shape.

Question 9
We classify words according to the eight parts of speech (noun, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, pronouns and interjections) to be able to know their interrelationships. For example, “hit,” “Kevin” and “Brian.” are just words now; they make no sense. But, the moment each is assigned a role, (a part of speech), they form something meaningful “Kevin hit Brian.” The best way to identify the parts of speech in a sentence is to think of the role each wordplay in the sentence. For example, determining namely words in a sentence which are nouns, action words are verbs and joining words which are conjunctions. In this example, Kevin is a noun and Brian too. On the other side, hit is a verb that has been used to illustrate Kevin action on Brian.
