The company forms a duopoly market with Coles and contributes to an overall 80% growth of the economy of Australia. The importance of product development for Woolworths is such that the company can provide proper customer satisfaction and at the same time ensure that a competitive advantage is gained in the market. The main competitor of Woolworths in the Australian market includes Wesfarmers (Woolworthsgroup.com.au, 2018).
The assignment provides the importance of having a new product development and provides an overview of the process in details. The factors that affect products and markets is analysed and based on it, the critical success factors of Woolworths is determined. The Australian Government has restricted the high price of the commodities of Woolworths mainly because it is in collaboration with Coles. This can be a huge cause for the loss of revenue of the company as without profit, it can be difficult for it to continue its progress in the competitive market in Australia and internationally. For example, it can be recommended that the company maintain proper analysis of the external factors in trying to cope up with the demands of the customers. The new product development framework can be implemented in a manner that can help Woolworths gain reputation in the market. The chilled salmon product needs to evaluate the demand of the customers through the responses of the surveys and ensure that it can prove as a major advantage factor for the company.
At the same time, another recommendation that can be presented to the company is the manner in which it can mitigate the threats from the Government. This can be done by ensuring that the company remains aware of the policies and rules launched by the Government and mark the prices according to the demand of the products. The pricing of the chilled salmon product of Woolworths needs to strike a balance between the economic condition of the market and the revenue earned by the company in the market.
