Apart from this, leaders have also promoted team work amongst the subordinates as it is the most important strategy with the perceptive of accomplishing the tasks in the desired manner. Explaining team work and its advantages amongst the teammates is the most appropriate factor through which leader could implement the measures related with the teamwork and other activities. Apart from explaining and making realise the employees benefit of teamwork and effective relationship, leader should be able to guide and lead group of people in an effective manner. There is a man which is considered as an effective leader, a 45-year old businessman who leads an advertising organization called Nusantara Perkasa which is located in Bali, Indonesia. Back in 1990, before he began up his own company, he joined a well-known advertising company which is called Rainbow Company in Surabaya, Indonesia. In few years he promoted as a sales manager, but then he chose to leave from his past association after 6 years working with Rainbow Company and develop an event organizer. Unfortunately, it went into collapse in following 1 year because of lack of skill and knowledge he had. However, he attempted to make a little advertising organization where he has just employed not more than 5 labourers. As the time passes, he made sense of how to expand his association; likewise he increased numerous relations and business partner. His previous working experiences is truly helped him as well; he learnt how to command people effectively. Presently, he is the CEO of biggest advertising company in Bali and Eastern part of Indonesia.
Behavioural Pattern and Traits of the Leader and its Connection with Leadership Theories
While analysing the leader’s efficiency and his skills, it was found that his knowledge, hard work and qualities has made him unique and distinct from other leaders in the world. This is the reason, he has been chosen for analysing the unique concept of leadership and the process of decision making. Initially he was working with an advertising company and then left that job after getting over crucial position in the corporation in order to start up an event organiser company but he fails in doing so due to lack of knowledge and skills in this field. In was observed that, he used to believe in attainment of goals and the objectives through every possible path (Bergman, et. al., 2012). His special quality was his belief on his subordinates. He always works so that he can grow along with his subordinates and this has developed a unique level of trust amongst his subordinates for him. This separates him from other leaders but while evaluating his leadership styles and traits followed by him, it was analysed that his style of performing tasks and making decisions mostly matches up with a charismatic leader. It was also observed that he was the reason behind the success of Nusantara Perkasa Company in Bali. With his unique thinking and effective skills, he manages to accomplish the tasks in unique way and this helped him to realise his capabilities and efficiency. Outcomes of evaluation process describes that his leadership styles matches with a charismatic leader but still they are unique in comparison with the basic theories and principles of leadership (Emira, 2010).
Trait theory of leadership says that every leader’s method differs from others in terms of accomplishment of a particular task. Sometimes, this is due to unique skills of leader while sometimes; it is willingly done by leaders in order to stand apart from other leaders. Characteristics of a leader make him unique and his behavioural pattern also plays crucial role in differentiating one leader from others (Hess & Bacigalupo, 2013).
While evaluating the leadership and the concept behind leadership, it has been observed that in traditional times, it was assumed that leaders cannot be build or made. Person born with leadership styles or leaders born with leading ability, it cannot be learnt. But as per the leadership theories, principles and the qualities which should be in a person for being an effective could easily be learnt. Thus, leaders could be made and the fact cannot be denied that before allocating any task to a new leader, he needs to take adequate training and development sessions under which every aspect related to leadership are explained to him (Lee, 2013). On the basis of modern thinking and approaches of leadership, companies execute evaluation programs rapidly in order to determine its employees’ talent. This is majorly being done to improve organizational performance in the market as well as to accomplishing the tasks in an effective and appropriate manner. Leaders are also trained ad developed from the same process and the traits, behaviours and habits followed by a leader are also explained to him in order to develop the efficient leader as per organizational requirements (Dinh, et. al., 2014).
Learning from Nusantara Perkasa’s CEO Experience and Feedback
While evaluating the model of leadership adopted by a 45 year old businessman who leads an advertising company named as Nusantara Perkasa, it was observed that he believes in perfection and for the same, he used to train other employees by himself only in order to acquire positive outcomes (Derue, et. al., 2011). Apart from these traits and behavioural patterns, following are certain leadership approaches which describe the significance of leadership and leaders at workplace:
Charisma i.e. charm, personality, etc. is one of the vital characteristic of transformational leaders. Apart from those, various leaders such as Jeff Bezos, leader of Nusantara Perkasa Corporation, etc. have adopted charismatic leadership style to the fullest. Hence, they are known as charismatic leaders. Charismatic leaders are unique from others and they have the ability to predict future conditions appropriately, they have creative thinking ability. Along with these characteristics, charismatic leaders are known for empowering its subordinates as well as they are known for showcasing empathy for them (Avolio & Yammarino, 2013). One of unique ability of charismatic leaders is that they are convincing in nature and with the help of this, they could easily influence others to work on the same oath which is showed to them and all these without using diplomacy and any kind of power which are available with a leader. Vision of charismatic leaders is quite effective and to convince its subordinates to follow the showed path for the same vision, they use possessing power. It can be said that the characteristics of a charismatic leader are similar with the characteristics of 45 year old businessman in Nusantara Perkasa. As a result, he is acting as the CEO of the biggest advertising company in Bali and in Eastern Indonesia (Babcock-Roberson & Strickland, 2010).
This type of leadership is present where leader acts as the head of the organization which perfectly matches with the leader of biggest advertising company in Bali. Strategic leaders not only concentrate over top level management, infect they execute their functions at all levels of the organization in order to enhance the performance of life, organization as well as of team (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). Duty of strategic leader is to fill the gap between the new arising opportunity and practically possibilities of utilise that opportunity. An effective strategic leader is who performs its duties as per organizational expectations as well as extracts the same level of outcomes which are expected from the leadership (Dinh, et. al., 2014).
Apart from other leadership styles, transformational leadership style is considered about initiating change within workplace, group, etc. (Odumeru & Ogbonna, 2013). Transformational leaders motivates its subordinates to identify unique method for accomplishing task and give challenging tasks to them in order to enhance their performance as well as to gain adequate and effective outcomes. These types of leaders empower followers (Wang, et. al., 2011).
Analysis of selected leader’s overall experience in his tenure along with the complexities of the leadership styles will be covered in this section and relevant feedback will be recorded. It has been observed from the analysis of leader’s experience, that he has attained great success in his tenure and presently he is CEO of the biggest advertising company in Bali is the result of his hard work. It is necessary for an effective leader that he should have certain qualities and the skills which are required to perform the team work and its related activities in an appropriate manner (Schyns, et. al., 2011).
Complexities of Leadership Skills and Self-reflection on Overall Report
From his experience, I have analysed that he has great communication skills and knowledge through which he has attained great success and growth in his career. Initially, he got promotion in his career as sales manager in Rainbow Company. Afterwards, he started a company with 5 labours and attained higher results as per the expectations (Chin, 2010). This can be concluded that he has great convincing power and effective leadership styles through which he acquired an efficient place in the competitive business environment with unskilful 5 labours. But with the help of his unique leadership style and behaviour, he develops unique team binding in his start up so that team work could be promoted amongst his subordinates. These are certain crucial elements which plays crucial role in the success of a leader and all these could be identified in his leadership style. With his higher expectations from his subordinates, he also believes in taking people up with himself and today, he has been appointed as the CEO of the biggest advertising company (Schyns & Schilling, 2011).
His dream was to lead a team and to be included in the list of most effective leaders across the globe. He was a leader in Nusantara Perkasa, Bali. It was an advertising company and from there he dreamt for his own company as well as to grow in his life. But prior to opening his own company in advertising industry, he joined Rainbow Company which was also an advertising firm. There, he was promoted as sales manager but after continuation of 6 years’ period, he decided to leave the job for opening his own company of event organiser (Derue, et. al., 2011). Due to lack of skills and knowledge, this idea collapsed within one year and then he opened a small advertising industry with 5 labourers. Till the time, he gained appropriate knowledge and experience in order to expand his business as well as to build relationship with his subordinates and partners. This helped him to gain the experience in relation with leading a group of people in an effective manner along with guiding them in an appropriate manner with the motive of getting the work done from subordinates as per the expectations (Winkler, 2010).
Apart from the effectiveness of his leadership style, there are certain challenges which he faced in his tenure but he tackles them in the most appropriate manner. This helped him to gain knowledge in relevance with the lifestyle of an effective leader as well as he also gained appropriate information about the duties of a leader. The first challenge he faced in his tenure when he decided to quit the job for opening an event organiser firm. He fails in this challenge and the he started a small company in advertising field with 5 labourers. This was the real challenge for him in leadership and he succeeded in this appropriately (Nworie, 2012). These challenges provides him the adequate information in relation with the leading experience and adopted adequate leadership styles such as strategic leadership, charismatic leadership, etc. His dynamic leadership style has helped him to achieve desired outcomes irrespective of the circumstances (Pinnington, 2011).
According to my opinion, leadership is an essential element from an organizational perceptive and amongst the leadership styles available in the business environment, I have realised that every style has its own capability and efficiency. As per this scenario, leadership styles adopted by a 45 year old businessman are unique and dynamic in nature. This has helped him to attain desired goals and the objectives in his career. I have observed that in the above two stages, observation and feedback, application of leadership theories and models have been discussed in relevance with the leadership styles and behavioural pattern of the leader and CEO of the biggest advertising company in Bali (Cianci, et. al., 2014).
As per my opinion, he has attained his desired goals and objectives through unique leadership styles and qualities along with the implementation of advanced measures of leadership which are required for being an effective leader. It has been observed that his leadership skills and leadership skills of a charismatic leader quite matches with each other. I have realised that his expectations from his subordinates are bit high and this proves him as an effective and a hard working leader. While analysing the observation part, I learnt that adaptation of unique leadership skills and style is necessary in order to attain the desired goals and objectives. I have also learnt that the unique leadership styles cannot be adopted; these could only be learnt from practical experience. In this scenario, leader has gained sufficient information in relevance with the teamwork and the measures to lead the team in an effective manner. His experience has made him unique and distinct from others and with the help of these unique skills, presently, he is the CEO of biggest advertising company in Bali which is the true outcome of his hard work (McCleskey, 2014).
From the evaluation of above three stages, I have observed that it is required to implement unique styles and strategies so that difference could be made from others. In this scenario, a 45 year old businessman’s leadership styles have bene discussed in order to analyse his effectiveness. It has been observed that he has appropriate set of unique skills and strategies which has the ability to make him stand apart from others. His experience has made him stand out from the que and the skills which he had adopted and implemented are true measures of his success and growth. With the help of these measures, he has attained success in his tenure along with the development of effective relationship with his subordinates in order to get the work done from them (Ehrhart, 2015).
From the above evaluation process, it has been observed that there is bit scope to improve the leadership styles discussed and implemented above. Following are crucial recommendations which could improve effectiveness of leadership:
- Proactive: Need of being proactive for a leader is necessary as it helps in increasing effectiveness and efficiency. Being a proactive leader requires the leader to adopt unique set of strategies which could help the leader to attain desired goals and the objectives.
- Expect conflicts: Conflicts amongst workplace is natural because individuals cannot agree on each other’s point of view. Thus, it is a duty of an effective leader to face these types of conflicts in an appropriate manner along with managing them in effective manner.
- Take risks: In order to attain better results from past as well as to differentiate himself from others; it is necessary to perform unique functions which are essential element to be innovative. Leaders are also known as flexible, thus, it will be an easy task for them to adopt certain measures so that enhanced outcomes could be acquired.
Conclusion
From the aforesaid information, it can be concluded that leadership has a significant role in attainment of organizational desired goals and objectives. Leaders with effective leadership styles act as the biggest advantage for the organization. An effective and efficient leader helps the organization to attain its desired goals and the objectives along with the development of crucial image in the target market. This report has concluded various aspects of leadership style, unique skillset adopted by the leader of biggest advertising company in Bali, etc. Apart from this, report also concludes the strategies adopted by the leader which has made him stand apart from others.
