Importance of Lifelong Learning
Human development is a lifelong process and generally takes place throughout the course of an individual (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2018). Furthermore it is generally seen that the human body continuously keeps on development both physically as well as psychologically right from their birth to their death (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2018). It is a reflection of this particular fact that many experts are of the viewpoint we are not the same individuals that we were a short while because of the fact that our body keep on developing both psychologically as well as physically. However, Boshyk (2016) is of the viewpoint that the ability to learn new things and also to gain new skills is limited to a certain time span in the lives of the individuals only and after that the process of learning or development stops. Thus, it becomes very important for the students or for that matter for the other individuals to gain the required knowledge or the skills that they are going to require in the later part of their lives during the time framework in which they are able to learn them in the best possible manner. This paper will discuss about the key subjects or the topics that I want to learn which will help in the professional career that I have chosen and also the skill sets that I would need to learn as well as develop to gain success in the chosen field.
I am a management student and I have selected this particular course of education because one day I want to become a manager in some big multinational company and earn a lot of money. Thus it can be said that I want to become a business person and it is with this particular objective that I have undertaken the particular course offered by our educational institution. However, at the same time I am aware of the fact that the competition in the professional world has increased in a significant manner in the last few decades it would not be enough for me to have just an educational degree. It is significant to note that there are thousands of managements from all over the world with the same kind of management degree like me and hoping to achieve the same thing that I am aspiring to achieve. Thus, I have realized that in order to gain competitive advantage over them I would need not only to have extra knowledge about the world of business but at the same time I would also required various kinds of additional skills that would help me to outrival the majority of the other management degree holders who are just like me. Thus, it is with this particular objective that I intend to learn a lot more about the concepts of communication, finance, strategic management, marketing management, change management, concepts of leadership and others. These are some of the basic requirements of the business world of the present times and thus a candidate needs to have effective working knowledge of these concepts so that he or she can perform as per the expectation level of the organization for which he or she is working. However, it is seen that at the degree courses only basic ideas about these concepts are being provide and the present day business world requires the candidates to have a thorough knowledge of these concepts and it is with this particular objective that I have decided to undertake these course in the future so that I would have a better chance at attaining success than the other individuals.
Key Topics for Professional Career
One of the most important knowledge that the various individuals aspiring to attain success in the present day world are required to have is an effective knowledge about the key strengths as well as the weaknesses of their character. A working knowledge of the strengths as well as the weaknesses is likely to help the individuals to know the areas of their own character or personality they need to work and seek development. Talking about my own personality I would like to say that I have fairly good communication skills but at the same time I encounter problems during public speeches. In addition to this, during the course of the course that I am undertaking at the current moment I found that I have a quality for analyzing data and am fairly good at interpreting data and stating the things that become obvious from the data. Moreover, I would also like to say that I am fairly good at managing time and at the same time I am able to work as per expectations in tough situations. These in short are some of the key strengths of my character.
I am personally of the opinion that the majority of the educational institutions related to the genre of management provides a working knowledge of these concepts however to succeed in the real professional world one needs to have a concrete knowledge about these concepts which guide the working of the majority of the present day business organizations. Thus, I am hoping that by undertaking a course in finance I would not only be able to gain a significant amount of information about the manner in which the financial dealings are being handled by the various business enterprises but at the same time I would be able to gain valuable information about the process of effectively regulating the finance of a particular enterprise. In addition to this, I personally believe that the success or the failure of a particular business enterprise depends on the manner in which the concerned enterprise is being able to convey the information about the products as well as services offered by it to the customers. Thus, an advanced knowledge about the various processes of communication used by the diverse business enterprises is likely to help me in a significant manner. Furthermore, a working knowledge about the various different theories as well as the styles of communication used by the various business enterprises is not only likely to improve the style of communication used by me but at the same time would act as an asset for me when I enter the professional business world. The same goes with the other concepts listed above as they are likely to not only add to the personal knowledge of mine but at the same time provide help me during the course of my professional career as well.
There are various skills that the individuals who wish to work in the various business enterprises in the managerial positions need to acquire in order to enhance their chances of gaining success in the professional world of business. Some of the key skills that the individuals are required to have are effective communication skills, interview skills, business writing skills, team working skills, knowledge about business research and data interpretation, resume writing skills, oral skills and various others (Tugend, 2014). I am personally of the viewpoint that one of the most important skills that each of the individuals whether he or she wishes to work in the business world or not should have the skills of effective communication. It is significant to note that the process of communication forms an integral part of the lives of the human beings and they commonly take the help of this particular process to convey information or message to the other individuals (Pollock, Jefferson & Wick, 2015). However, many experts are of the viewpoint that the quality of the message or the information which is being conveyed depends to a large extent on the communication skills of the concerned individual (Baker, Cathcart & Peach, 2017). Thus, it becomes very important for the various individuals to gain effective communication that are likely to help them to not only communicate in a much better manner with the other individuals but at the same time will enhance their chances of gaining success in the business world. There are various means through which an individual can develop effective communication skills like delivering a speech standing before a mirror, taking the help of workshops to develop their speaking abilities and others (Power & Bennett, 2015). In addition to these, I personally believe that a “good listener makes a good speaker” and thus the individuals at the same should try to be good listeners as well and should try to listen carefully to what the other persons are trying to say and respond accordingly since this would significantly enhance the level of their communication skills.
Skills Required in the Business World
The process of public speaking also gained a significant amount of significance within the framework of the modern day world. It is significant to note that during the course of working in the business world there are various situations wherein the managers are required to address the various employees who are associated with that the concerned enterprises and at the same time most of the managers of the present times tend to use the process of public speaking to effectively motivate the various employees of the enterprises (Robinson, Segal & Segal, 2014). Thus, I believe that public speaking skills are of the one of the most important ones within the framework of the modern day business world and I would gain in a significant manner by inculcating this particular skill. This skill can be easily developed by practicing the art of public speaking, taking the help of friends and family members to deliver mock speeches, watching the videos of good public speakers and others (Robinson, Segal & Segal, 2014). Another significant personal skill that is commonly required in the present day business world is the skill of business writing. It is significant to note that the art of business writing is very different from the ones that are being taught to the students at schools, colleges, universities and others educational institutions and requires an individual to follow various diverse kinds of patterns and process (Rojas, Rojas & Villamizar, 2017). Furthermore, it is generally seen that during the course of working as a manager a particular individual requires to write various business letters, emails, reports and others not only for the employees who are working for him or her but at the same time for the stakeholders and the other entities who form an important part of the business of the concerned business enterprise (Kesner, Larson & Dias, 2017). Thus, I personally believe that this would serve me as a valuable during my course of professional career and would give me a competitive edge over the others.
The dynamic nature of the contemporary business world has made it important for the various business enterprises to take the help of the construct of teams and groups within the framework of their enterprise (Powless & Schafer, 2016). It is significant to note that these teams not only add to the efficiency but also to the effectiveness of the entire enterprise itself (Powless & Schafer, 2016). Furthermore, it is generally seen that by the segregation of the entire work of the enterprise and allocating the kind of work or tasks in which a particular individual specializes an enterprise can not only enhance the individual productivity of these employees but at the same time overall productivity of the concerned enterprise (Weldy, 2017). It is a reflection of this particular fact that the present day managers are required to have effective team management skills which can help them in a significant manner to further enhance the prospects of the concerned organization (Weldy, 2017). It is with this particular objective that I intend to inculcate effective team management skills within me so that when I would become a manager I would find things much easier to handle.
The business enterprises of the present times need to undertake various kinds of researches not only for the purpose of analyzing the business environment in which they are operational or the process of effectively incorporating the needs of the customers in the products or the services that they are offering to them but also for the purpose of analyzing their own performance (Robinson, Segal & Segal, 2014). Thus, the managers of the present times are required to have this particular skill and since I am aspiring to become a business manager I think that I would gain in a significant by cultivating this particular skill.
Many experts are of the viewpoint that the interviews judge the candidates who appear for the process of interview by going through their resume (Baker, Cathcart & Peach, 2017). It is significant to note that the things that are mentioned in the resume are no doubt important but at the same time the manner in which they are presented is also important and this it becomes very important for the job aspirants to write their resume in the best possible manner (Baker, Cathcart & Peach, 2017). I am on the verge of joining the professional business world and at the same time in order to gain a suitable job position that would suit my expectations I would be required to give various interviews and provide my resume to several people and thus the inculcation of this particular skill is likely to help me in a significant manner since it would not only impress the interviews but at the same time would provide me with an opportunity wherein I can actually get the kind of job that I desire. Another important skill which I personally believe is important for me to have is the interview skills. The level of competition in the job sector in the present times have increased significantly and the job prospects of a particular individual depends to a large degree on the extent to which he or she is being able to impress the interviewer (Mathrick, Meagher & Norbury, 2017). It is significant to note that many times it happens that the candidates are not being able to get jobs inspite of having the required qualifications because they were unable to impress the interviews (Mathrick, Meagher & Norbury, 2017). Thus, I personally believe that the acquisition of this particular skill will help me to gain advantage over my competitors.
At this juncture I would like to say that there is a gap between the expected skills that are required to attain success in the professional world. For example, the above discussion clearly outlines that the individuals are required to have decision making skills, business writing skills and others. However, an analysis of my personal strengths and weaknesses reveals that I do not have these skills and thus I need to work for the development of these skills. In addition to these, I also need to work hard for the development of my interview skills, resume writing skills and others which are likely to help me to gain leverage over the other individuals who are also trying to get the same kind of jobs that I am trying to get. I am hoping that the acquisition of these skills is likely to help me in a significant manner during the time of my work in the professional world. The acquisition of these skills is likely to take an additional effort from my end but for the benefits that they are likely to provide me I am willing to do the needful.
To conclude, the job sector in the present times has become much more competitive than it was in the earlier times and it is a reflection of this particular fact that the individuals are required to have not only higher educational qualifications or a concrete knowledge of the subjects but at the same time they are required to have various kinds of skills that would help them in professional world. Thus, the individuals in the present times are required to have effective communication skills, public speaking skills, resume writing skills, interview skills, data analysis and research interpretation skills, team working skills, business writing skills and others. It is a conglomeration of these skills that helps a particular individual to gain success in the business world.
