Identification of the problems
AB Pty. Ltd is a case study which will be studied in this report. This company is a small firm which contains three trucks. The purpose of having truck is it handles the product delivery business. The trucks are used for delivering the specified products to the customers, on time. But, since a long time the company has been performing low and the customers are not happy with the service. The purpose of studying this case is to identify the reason for the delay in the service and the reason why the customers are not happy (Sadulov & Indihar S?temberger, 2016). The help of business analyst is taken by the company to rectify the problem and respective solution are requested. On the other hand, (Information and Communications Technology) ICT professional is hired to help the company in conducting research, planning, designing, testing, to give advice on information technology systems’ improvement, then advice with respect to hardware, software for the applications being implemented in the company.
The objective is to help the company in deciding and implementing an effective solution, where the present problems will be resolved with technology by discarding the manual operations. Therefore, an appropriate proposed solution will be presented in this report, with the related design and deployment plan (Hybrid Cloud Event Integration, 2016).
The problem started when the company started receiving more number of orders to be delivered. At present the area which AB Pty. Ltd., covers is Austin downtown, Texas, USA. The business analysts’ study reveals that the primary reason for the chaos in completion of the deliveries is considered as ineffective process management. The other issues follow from this problem, and all the issues are connected with each other. Mainly the customer satisfaction is not reached and on top of that, the deliveries are not completed on time.
IBM Bluemix service is used in the application development of this report, because IBM Bluemix is capable of supporting several programming languages, services and much more. Thus, start the development by accessing the following URL,
Open the user’s Bluemix account. Next, log in to it by entering the Login ID and the password. The user is now ready to create a dashboard, for the application.
Provide a host name, for the application when the SDK is selected for the Node.
The task of establishing a connection among thedatabase and the application has a significant role. Thus, create a new database in MySQL.
Proposed solution using IBM Bluemix service
It is said to opt “Edit code”to finish the work of editing, if any. Once this work is finished the file must be deployed. Further, enter the red button on the screen of the window. The redeployment message pops up. If any need is there to redeploy select the redeploy option if not go for the “Cancel” button (Ibm Redbooks., 2015).
Open the GIT Repository windowby selecting “OK.” Commit the files with the use of “Commit” option.
Editing can be done till the previously mentioned stage and the modifications that are made will be available on the window’s left side pane (Ohri, 2014).
Conclude the process with a,successful application deployment message.
For the implementation of the proposed solution IBM Bluemix service is used. The proposed solution for this Company comprises of the following elements:
- The processes are managed by the smart application (Antonopoulos & Gillam, 2017).
- Total number of deliveries are distributed to each truck of the company.
- It is must to complete the deliveries that are assigned, on time.
- Geospatial Analytics service is facilitated.
- East-west and south-north, are the two zones which are divided.
- Alerts will be sent for any kind of violations of speed in the specific zones.
- Cloud and IoT are integrated in this application.
- Important notification will be sent.
- The process is organized and pre-planned.
- Updates on the assigned deliveries and its completion will be known easily.
- The trucks can be located by tracking.
The steps for the design plan are:
Step 1:In Google, search Bluemix website.
Step 2:Select the right website, which will allow the user to go to the Bluemix account.
Step 3:Then, fill the log in details like, User name and Password.
Step 4:Don’t forget to integrate Internet of Thingsand IBM Bluemix service, in this step.
Step 5: Then, in the dashboard theinstances of IoT will be created with the use of Internet platform services.
Step 6:Complete with the configuration process of IoT.
Step 7:Next, pick the required device type, and ID (Meinhardt & Reinheimer, 2016).
Step 8: Go for, Add API option and start generating the new API keys.
Organization ID: rl79j3
Device Type: Vehicle
Device ID: XYZ
Authentication Method: token
Authentication Token: [email protected]
Organization ID: rl79j3
Device Type: Vehicle
Device ID: XY
Authentication Method: token
Authentication Token: @Rk0&LQ+Vx8+4n&I2J
Step 9:Do configuration by downloading the starter kit and after its deployment.
Step 10: Clone the current project and change the file name to, manifest.yml.
Step 11:Open config or settings.jsr file, then fill the below asked details and save the file:
- Vehicle type for iot_deviceType.
- Organization ID for iot_deviceOrg.
- Token and Registered ID for iot_deviceSet (For all three devices)
- API key for iot_apiKey.
- API key token for iot_apiToken.
Step 12: Geospatial Analytics service must be used by creating and configuring it.
Step 13: Select“Add services”, press “Free” and create an application.
Step 14:Link both starter kit and the geospatial analytics service, with IoT application.
Step 15: Activate“Alert.”
Step 16: Create the visual dashboard with NODE-RED.
Step 17:Go to the followingURLhttps://vehicle-tracking-app1.mybluemix.net/and see the application that is developed.
Then comes the part for deploying the application. In this part, testing plays a significant role. “Set Property command” will be utilized to test and change the required properties at the end. The map application is connected with the smart application, so that the truck drivers can locate the address (Cloud computing, 2013). The test for checking the communication and the stimulation of trucks’ movement will be processed.
The following added features act as solutions for the application:
- Process managing features
- Notifications and alert system
- Constant communication with the drivers.
- Tracking the movement of the trucks.
- Coordination and instantly updated information.
The implementation of the solution in the smart application has surely faced many odds. Only after overcoming these odds, the implementation is completed successfully. The following areas were complicated:
- How to manage the increasing deliveries?
- What could be the right solution?
- Will the technology help here?
- Which application will be suitable, for this business?
- Will the drivers understand how to use the application and its rules?
- Then, establishing of connection with the database and the application had some difficulty (Cloud Computing, 2010).
Conclusion
Ultimately, the study of the company called AB Pty. Ltd., is completed. The business analyst had been a lot of help for analyzing the business case study, identifying the issues and suggestion some suitable solutions. Further, as a newly hired ICT professional I have performed a major role in designing plans, research is conducted before taking the decision of choosing the solution, then in testing, deploying and implementing the application. The objectives are met i.e., an effective smart application is implemented as a solution, to resolve the present problems that are encountered in the company’s daily processes. The implemented application provides solutions like, process managing features, notifications and alert system, constant communication with the drivers, tracking the movement of the trucks, coordination and instantly updated information. Hence, an appropriate proposed solution is presented in this report, with the related design and deployment plan. The implementation has been completed by meet and resolving all the odds. The IBM Bluemix service is the core of the whole application, using which the application is developed. The customers are satisfied with on time delivery of their products and there will not be any pending deliveries anymore, because of the smart features of the application.
