Overview
Woolworths is one of the leading supermarkets in Australia that has been owned by Woolworths Limited founded in 1924. Headquarter of Woolworths is located at Bella Vista, new South Wales, Australia and has more than 3000 stores around the world and has been employing 205,000 team members. The company is one of the largest supermarket network in Australia that provide their consumers better services and committed to provide them best products at marginal price. The large number of employees and a vast network forces Woolworths to implement cloud computing within the existing system in manner to manage the daily operational activities. The payroll system hosted I cloud will be helpful in assuring that the payroll system runs and produces positive results without altering the operational activities.
Problems in existing payroll system
Payroll can be much complex for such large number of employees and staffs, and the stores available at different locations. Manually handling such a vast calculation cannot be error free if done by humans and this human error could possible influence the overall output of the payroll that might be wrong or incorrect. The account management can also not proceed accurately if the calculation is being done manually. The cloud system will assure the automated collection and execution of the data and information in manner to produce efficient and effective output. This will not only save time, money, but also shares the load of the staffs for managing the necessary operational activity.
Benefits of ‘Precipitation Payroll Services’
Operating the cloud based payroll system will be helpful in managing the payroll of entire team members of the Woolworths through simplifying the entire process in much accurate and efficient way without any error. There are following major benefits of deploying this payroll system considering the replacement of the traditional payroll system:
- It can be cost effective than the traditional systems as it will eliminate the need of the pen and paper and lots of time can be saved that can be utilized for other operational activity by the individual who is taking care of the payroll system. Paperless payroll processing can be much more cost effective for the Woolworths in manner to manage the operational activities.
- It will be accurate and precise than any other human calculation and could be much more reliable for the Woolworths for managing payroll system. It minimizes or eliminates the threat of expose to the extent level as compared to that of the traditional system (Ampatzidis et al. 2016). Hence, alternatively the cloud based payroll system will be secured and reliable for the organization in manner to utilize it for payroll processing.
- Improvement in the employee accessibility is another beneficial sector for the processing of the cloud based payroll system as the direct access to the platform allows flexibility and less effort in the system in manner to manage the operational activities involved in the payroll system.
- Time saver: It will be saving lots of time irrespective of the number of employees and the calculation involved in the project in manner to manage the operational activities. The automated cloud platforms allow calculation of the data and information from various branches and calculate them to deliver the necessary output of the project. The accountant will not have to calculate the entire employees individually as an overview can be generated using the payroll system describing the payments of every employee separately.
- Internal process reduces: the internal processes can be reduced that can be considered as the bottom lie for the processing of the business operational activities of Woolworths.
Challenges in Migration
It is necessary to consider the related facts with the migration before migrating the data and information over the network without altering the existing system and assuring that the payroll system provides the necessary expected outcomes better than the traditional system.

Considerations before migration
The virtual data should be developed prior migrating the data and information over the cloud and the categorized data should contain the connectivity, networking, storage, and identity.it is necessary that the proposed cloud migration comply with the existing business policies of Woolworths.
Connectivity: the virtual network should be used by the organization while transferring the data and information over the network in manner to manage the transferring and saving of the data and information related to the personal and sensitive information related to the employees.
Networking: the network should be managed and altered as per the requirement of the third party who is offering the service for the management and processing of the data and information related to the on-going necessary operations related to the payroll (Mital, Pani and damodaran 2015).
Storage: the storage will be performing the crucial role in performing the migration as it will be necessary for the consideration of the management of the classification and regression of the types of data that is necessary for the higher considerations and deliver them in an efficient and effective way.
Identity: Identification of the types of data and information and assures the authorization and authentication of the users who are logging into the system in manner to manage the operational activities in an efficient and effective way without altering the benefits being gathered at the prior of the migration deployment.
Assess
It is the most considerable fact for the successful migration of the payroll system into the cloud, that the planning should contain all the strategies those are necessary for making this deployment to be effective and efficient enough for managing the necessary operations. The payroll system being transferred over the network should follow the proper planning and delivery of those planning in much efficient and effective way. Following are the detailed phases whose importance being explained and how these should be assessed for the successful deployment or migration of the payroll system over the cloud.
- Assessing the on-premises application in manner to analyse the compliance of the proposed technology within the existing framework of the Woolworths and determine the changes those are necessary for the successful and efficient delivery of the migration.
- Analysing the requirement specification of the application will be another major step while migrating the payroll system over the cloud and successfully deploy it for the efficient and effective deployment of the cloud payroll system (Mahadi, Hasan and Roy 2018). It will be assuring that the deployment or manipulations being deployed will be effective and efficient enough while deploying the ‘Precipitation Payroll Services’ within the existing system of the Woolworths and consider the maximum output from the deployed changes or manipulations
- Analysing Configuration necessary for the deployment of the cloud platform based payroll system and assuring the gains or benefits being introduced in the above report. This phase will be helpful in assuring that the deployment being made is working enough for the management of the payroll system related operations.
- Budget for the deployment of the requested payroll system. It will be the most crucial aspect for the Woolworths as this factor needs to be managed in manner to assure that the deployment being managed will be profitable for them or not. Azure available budget plans and the requirements must be evaluated prior the deployment of the migration assuring that the changes will meet the needs and requirements of the users.
Migration
The migration of the data and information over the network requires proper strategy and planning in manner to manage the stated project in an efficient and successful manner. The cloud services of different model of the applications those could be applicable in the Woolworths for the management of the operational activities in an efficient and effective manner (Roy, mahadi and Hasan 2018). On-demand services such as Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) are the required necessity for the delivery of the data migration or payroll system migration over the cloud considering the management of the operational activities.
Application redesign
The Azure is a third party service and thus, it has own specifications certain to the management of the type of accomplishment the organization is willing to do. Thus, the compliance of the hardware and software is necessary for the management and accomplishment of the transformation required for the payroll system.
- The primary action will be to automatically converging the database objects in manner to allow he access to the cloud services and manage them accordingly. SSML SQL server migration management will be required for letting the third party to have the access Automated conversion of Database objects will be the first and one of the most crucial aspects. The data and information being transferred over the cloud should be managed and processed in an efficient and effective manner without altering the benefits for the organization (Ranjan et al. 2015).
- The data migration must be accessed in steps in the form of tables and this should be done in three parts considering the small, medium and large data table’s migration over the cloud. The migration of the data also needs to be accessed in steps and they should be migrated in three parts. Thus, the entire dataset can be managed and transferred over the cloud considering the further management of the payroll system.
There should be regular evaluation and monitoring of the data and information being transferred over the network in manner to manage the operational activities in an efficient and effective manner. This will be helpful in assuring the security management of the data and information being transferred over the network.
Considerations before migration
Real-time replication
Sharing the workload of the staffs and employees with the proposed technology can be managed in an efficient and effective way as the cloud offers asynchronous replication that will be contributing in the management of the workload and allowing the automatic sync option for the management of the operational activities in an efficient and effective way (Brandas, Megan and Didraga 2015). The payroll system will be recording the necessary data such as employee coming late, basic salary, presence, absence, overtime, SAT, and many more those are necessary for the development and execution of the payroll in the system.
Evaluation
Considering the security and privacy of the data being transferred and the health of the application being used for the management of the payroll, it can be stated that the evaluation will be playing crucial role. It is necessary to consider whether the data or information being shared or migrated is secured enough not to be traced by any unauthorized users. Migration tools are also available those could be used by the Woolworths while migrating the data over the cloud. The tests those will ensure the migration process is being delivered in efficient manner includes Regression, Adhoc and retesting those could be suggested as the appropriate and effective for the evaluation process and assuring that the system being installed is capable of meeting all the needs and requirements in an efficient and effective manner.
Optimisation
Analysis of the application after migration is necessary in manner to identify the different factors those could contribute in the enhancement of the functioning of Woolworths’ payroll system. It is necessary to evaluate the scalability, security, budget, and performance advantages those could be availed by the Woolworths.
Secure Cloud services
Data and information security are the major concerns for the transmission and migration of the data and information over the network and managing the privacy and security of the individuals whose data and information being transferred over the network. The present time is an evidence how much the data and information can be vulnerable to breaches and intrusion and so proper strategies should be taken in manner to assure that the data is being secured and safe over the cloud. Encryption is the possible and effective technology that can assure that the data being transferred over the network is free from intrusion or breaches and thus, assuring that the users’ personal and sensitive information can be secured.
Cost efficiency & optimisation
This implementation does not require any additional hardware or software for the implementation of the payroll system being operated using the cloud. This implementation will be effective enough to be managed. Even the maintenance and management in future will be responsible of the third party and hence, the implemented system will be optimizing enough for the management of the payroll system. The process will be much faster than any other human process and the large mathematical problems will be solved in a single instance and hence the delivered payroll system will save time for the accountant to be involved in other operational activity that can alternatively enhance the productivity of the organization (Mahadi, Hasan and Roy 2018).
The budget of the project will be playing a crucial role in manner to manage the entire ongoing operational activity as the Woolworth will always think of developing and implementing the strategies those could be helpful in enhancing the output and production of the organization. The proposed system will be under budget and even the maintenance cost will be nothing and so the after implementation, there is not any investment for the organization on the developed payroll system.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the payroll system for the management of the 305,000 team members can be a very complex and tough for the accountant if it is being delivered using the traditional systems. The facts mentioned above clarifies the aspects related to the implementation of payroll system within the Woolworths. The above report proposes a plan that can be used for the smooth and efficient deployment of the cloud within the existing system of Woolworths. It can be recommended that the Woolworths should evaluate the background of the third party if services are being adhered from other than Azure.
Encryption technology could be the best and effective technology for the management of the security and privacy of the data and info ration being migrated over the cloud. The above report also emphasizes on the evaluation of the cloud based payroll system optimization considering the different factors those are considerable while talking about the successful and efficient delivery of the new transformation.
