Importance of personal hygiene practices in food industry
Discuss about the Postcolonial Environmental Justice Communication.
Cross cultural management is a process which contains he work teams and the operations of a business into new foreign country in such a way that the business does not feel much gap among the cultures. This process takes care of all the related prospect of a business to measure the overall position of the business. On the basis of the given case, it has been found that the food hawker’s stalls in Singapore are not operating their business properly. The case explains that the stalls are not focusing on the hygiene and they are using the waste and dirty water to prepare the food. It has been evaluated that the company is required to follow some personal hygiene practices.
It has been measured on the basis of the case study that the European food company has offered a deal to the Thailand government to establish the hawker food stall in Chiang Mai. It briefs that the company has agreed to the government to offer the hygiene food to the citizens of the country. Proper food standards and rules would be followed and the food would be prepared in a better processing system so that the better quality food could be offered to the customers of the company.
Cultural dimension is a framework of cross culture which describes about the culture of a particular society or a country on the basis of the overall values, behaviour and the structure derived from the various factors of the business. The main dimension of culture is business could be power distance index, uncertainty avoidance index, individual versus collectivism etc. the cultural dimension of Thailand are as follows:
This cultural dimension deals with the fact that all the individuals of the country in societies are not equivalent. It expresses that the attitude of an individual about the culture towards the inequalities among the people. On the basis of the cultural dimension chart of Thailand, the country has scored 64 on PDI index which is bit lower than the Asian countries. In this society, the inequalities are accepted (Yoo, Donthu and Lenartowicz, 2011). The power distance shows loyalty, deference and loyalty. This cultural dimension leads to the paternalistic management. The power distance explains that the attitude of the citizen towards the managers of the company is quite formal. The flow of information is controlled and hierarchical.
Cultural dimension of Thailand
This cultural dimension deals with the fact that all the individuals manage the interdependence in the society among all the citizens of the country. It expresses that the people are using the self image which is determined on the basis of the “I” or “We”. In this approach people make sure that they are taking care of themselves and their family only.
On the basis of the cultural dimension chart of Thailand, the country has scored 20 which is highly collectivism country. In this society, the people are showing loyalty towards their family, friends and the extended relationship. The individual element shows that people are very sensitive about their work and culture and they do not easily allow other people to harm their people (Williams and Mawdsley, 2006).
This cultural dimension explains about the 2 aspects higher score and lower score. The higher score explains that the society and the people of a particular country are explained about the achievement, success and competition. The lower score about the company explains that the individual are showing about the quality of the life. The masculinity level of a country focuses mainly on the individual and their priority (Ting-Toomey, 2012).
On the basis of the cultural dimension chart of Thailand, the country has scored 34 which are considered that he Thailand is a feminine country. It indicates that the Thailand society has lower competitiveness and the assertiveness. It explains that still, in the country traditional roles are played by the male and female.
It explains that the society plays a crucial role indicating the future of a business. It explains that how much the country and individuals of the country feel threatened by unknown situation and ambiguous and have maintained a belied about avoiding the risk factors of the company. It reflects about the uncertainty avoidance.
The Thailand has scored 66 on this dimension, but along with it, it indicates about the preferences of avoiding uncertainties (Ting-Toomey and Chung, 2005). It explains that the country is pre planned for any kind of risk, issues, strict laws etc. the society of Thailand is not easily ready for any change in their country and culture.
Long term orientation explains that the society is required to maintain a link among the past, present and future prospect and aspects of the business and prioritize the goals of the country differently. The normative society has scored low on this dimension and decided to take a suspicion on the societal change.
Issues faced by Sunshine Inc in establishing business in Thailand
The Thailand has scored 32 on this dimension, but along with it, it indicates about the normative behaviour of Thailand than the pragmatic. It explains that the citizen of the country is holding strong concern about the absolute truth (Terman, 2013). People of the company are thinking in normative way. They exhibit huge respect for their tradition, culture, focuses of the quick results etc.
Lastly, it explains that the people are trying to control their impulses and desires to manage the business. The Thailand has scored 45 on the index which explains that the people of the Thailand are enough strong to manage all the desire and impulses of the business.
On the basis of the Thailand cultural dimension, it has been measured that the Thailand is managing the business at a great level. The entry into the country would offer better returns to the country. Further, it has been found that the entry of Sunshine Inc into Thailand country would be beneficial. They are just required to manage and evaluate all the related aspect of the business in their cultural basis.
The current case study explains that the Hawker stalls are operating their business from 1960 in Singaporean market. They are quite similar to the hawker stalls. The business is not operating in proper manner. The case explains that the hawkers are operating the business in a proper way. They are working under the unhygienic conditions. The water supply is not proper; the cooking cannot be done in a proper way due to inadequate equipments. The overall position and the production process of food of the food companies are not better and explains that the companies are required to maintain the personal hygiene practices and proper food manufacturing process so that the customers could feel attracted towards the business (David, 2008).
All stall holders of Singapore were expected to be cautious in stick to proper food and special hygiene practices. This must be done to ensure that their stalls are enough hygiene and free from pests and other infestation. Importantly, the hawker centres in Singapore succeeded in promoting five important standards of community development which are efficiency, safety, the power of women, ethnic diversity but unity and modern values and synthesis of traditional.
The case study explains that the European food company has offered a deal to the Thailand government to establish the hawker food stall in Chiang Mai, a city of Thailand. It briefs that the company has agreed to the government to offer the hygiene food to the citizens of the country (Ayman and Korabik, 2010). Proper food standards and rules would be followed and the food would be prepared in a better processing system so that the better quality food could be offered to the customers of the company. The main issues which would be faced by the company in the Thailand country are cultural issues. It is not easy for an organization to manage the business into new countries; they always have to face some cultural issues, communication gap etc.
Importance of cultural sensitivity in managing business in a foreign country
Cross culture concept is quite complex as all the countries are holding different culture and the adoption of new culture depends on the existing culture of the country. Cross culture is crucial for each business to settle done the business into new country. The company could expand the business in other country only on the basis of the cultural settle and confidence of the customers about the business (D?browska, 2013).
It explains that the main issue with the Sunshine limited was to understand the concept and the business of the company. It is not easier for an organization to understand the culture of different country. They must hire the managers from the Thailand only or could train the managers about the Thailand business so that they could run the business perfectly.
Further, the understanding about the business and culture of a country is different and implementing the culture into the daily operations and management process of the company is different. It explains that the managers of the sunshine should prepare the new policies and the strategies in such a way that they could easily motive the employees to do the work and enhance the confidence about the business among the customers of the company.
There are various levels of different culture. An organization and all the managers of the organization are requisite to understand about all the related factors of the company so that the better management of the culture could be done and the better understanding about the different culture would also make it easier for the company to manage overall position of the company (Cohen and Hill, 2007).
The cross culture dimension of Thailand explains that the people of the company still believe that the traditional roles should be followed by the male and female people of the country. It has been measured that the masculinity level of the country is quite higher and thus the Sunshine Inc has to manage and operate the activities on the basis of that (Arevalo and Aravind, 2011).
Management level and the status of the business must be set by the business in such a manner that the best infrastructure of the stall, the food processing, the management etc are according to the Thailand culture so that they could feel connected to it and enhance the level of the market share and the sales of the company (Chiao et al, 2009).
It is the term which explains about the dream, hope, and courage to the citizen to fulfil and accomplish all their gaols and the dreams. Value, culture and belief are few attitudes which could help the business to enhance the confidence and manage the culture. Culture influences the people to take an initiative towards the various available opportunities.
The study has further carried to evaluate all those management issues which have arisen in the Sunshine Inc due to huge cultural variances. Some of them are as follows:
After evaluating and analyzing the gender issues of the country, it has been measured that the first preferences is always given to the male. The male ratio is quite higher at all the workplaces in Thailand. The ratio of male and female has been higher but still the growth rate is not according to the developed countries. People still believe that the female cannot work efficiently and effectively the work level of the male is always higher than a female.
The managers of sunshine Inc is required to evaluate all the gender related issues so that the gender issues could not be faced by the company and the performance of the company becomes better (Bochner, 2013). The women of the country are becoming stronger day by day. The chances to the Thailand women give better chance to the sunshine Inc. It would help them to manage a better image among the Thailand women and thus the market base and the confidence level among the people of the company would be better.
After evaluating and analyzing the various culture dimensions and the adoption level of the country, it has been measured that the Indians does not have seriousness about the time and the punctuality. The citizen of Thailand always believe that time is of cyclic nature which will come back, once lost. However the youth of the country is getting changes and started believe that the time is quite valuable and they should grab all the opportunities. Once it will be lost, it will not pop up again (Bhaskaran and Sukumaran, 2007). The company should also consider the time factor in the Thailand market and must offer the work to the clients in the given time.
The managers of sunshine Inc is required to evaluate all the time related issues so that the opportunities could be grabbed at the right time and the customers could be satisfied with the time factor of the company. the citizen of the country believe that they have enough time to accomplish any work and if the sunshine Inc enters into the Thailand market than the time factor would help the company to attract the investors.
The study on the Thailand market explains that the Thailand culture is so much influenced by the word “empowerment”. The empowerment level of the country is enhancing but the increment rate is bit slower. The attitude of Thailand people regarding the empowerment word is quite influential. They believe that they cannot be an entrepreneur. However, they could work effectively (Alsagoff, 2010). It leads to the decision that the organization are required to mange and evaluate entire business of the company in such a way that the labour could easily be got from the country.
The labour rate must be better according to their culture and they must offer some cultural environment at the work place. The lower rate of the labour and foreign cultural environment would demotivate them to work effectively (Ardichvili et al, 2006).
The body language of every country is different from other. It is very difficult because a business cannot change the communication signs. In the Thailand market, shaking hands is embarrassing as physical touch and it is not allowed in Thailand culture. The gesture depends on the hierarchy level of the company. “Wai” is one of the most common way in which the people of Thailand are greeting to each other. If there is a man than greet is done with the “Sawadee-Krap” and if there is a women than the greeting must be done by saying the “Sawadee-Kah”. Both the words mean hello. Shake hands are only allowed if Wai is not offered.
After evaluating and studying various published articles, magazines, books etc that it would be easier for the Sunshine Inc to enter into the Thailand market and set up the business there. People of Thailand are quite sweet and they always help the other people to manage the business. Various beliefs and values of Thailand and Sunshine Inc are similar and it would make it easier for the company to set up the business and enhance the market base of the company (Alvesson and Berg, 2012).
According to the study, the Thailand market, their belief, and their culture have been studied and it has been recognized that the culture of the Thailand is better. Concerning about the governance, the company must hire a lawyer to evaluate all the governance and rules of the country so that the management could be done in better way. The culture of the country s quite corruptive and thus Sunshine Inc is required to evaluate that point as well. It would make easier for them to manage the business.
On the basis of the study, it has been measured that the Thailand expansion would be better for the company. Because the changes in government, matching beliefs, fewer rates of corruption, attitude of Thailand people, working style of them are quite better and it would help them to achieve their objectives and goals. But it is also recommended to the business to enter into the market after managing and evaluating all the factors of the company.
Conclusion:
The study on the country explains that the overall position of the Thailand culture is better. The cross culture dimension of the country explains that the country is following a traditional approach. However, it has also been measured that the current changes are quite modern in the business. It has been evaluated that the expansion into the Thailand market would be better for the company. Because the changes in government, matching beliefs, fewer rates of corruption, attitude of Thailand people, working style of them are quite better and it would help them to achieve their objectives and goals.
But it is also recommended to the business to enter into the market after managing and evaluating all the factors of the company, it has been recommended to the sunshine Inc that they should enter into the Thailand market and must set up the business into the market. he culture and the People of Thailand are quite better and they help the other people to manage the business.
According to the study, the Thailand market, their belief, and their culture have been studied and it has been recognized that the culture of the Thailand is better. Various beliefs and values of Thailand and Sunshine Inc are similar and it would make it easier for the company to set up the business and enhance the market base of the company. Concerning about the culture changes, the company should train the managers and the employees of the company in such a way that they could manage the business perfectly. The culture of the country is quite corruptive and thus Sunshine Inc is required to evaluate that point as well. It would make easier for them to manage the business. To conclude, the sunshine Inc must enter into the Thailand market.
