“A Raisin in the Sun” is a film about a Black family that has their own personal issues. Through this writing issues will be discussed about families living arrangements, the family development, and family love. Insite will be explored on different parts of the film.
In any family, there are many problems that may occur in their household. Some of the Youngers problems were how they got along in their home. It was an an argument everyday. For example, Walter and his mother got into an argument about her not giving him the money for liquor store.
Even Walter and Betty had plenty of arguments. One being how Walter wanted Betty to give up being a doctor, so that his mama can see an extra reason for giving him the money for his liquor store. They always argued about the smallest things most of them are started by Walter. One major argument was about how he spent the money. Last but not least, there are issues with Ms.
Lena and Walter. Ms.Lena always tries to find the good in Walter. That’s her son and all true enough, but I feel like she should stop babying him and let him be a real man. Everybody has flaws but does not know how to accept them.
One thing that is definite the Younger family: they have to take on many responsibilities. Of course like any other family, The Younger got through most of their problems. The biggest one being realizing what the money was really for.
In the film, everybody was so upset not for them it was for their mother Ms.Lena. Walter. Walter and Betty had their own way of wanting to spend the money that it messed up their relationship. It took Ms.Lena at the end of the film to give them a speech about how that much money was given to her for them to realize what they were doing was foolish. That just comes to show that money is truly the “ Money is power, freedom, a cushion the root of all evil, the sum of blessings.”~ Carl Sandburg
In the times when the film was written families of ten had a certain person they would want to leave for the Younger generation. In this film, the character “Travis” was not shown much, but what Ms.Lena did for him made him an important part of the story. Travis is Walter Lee and Ruth’s son. In the film once Ms.Lena received the money she decided she was going to purchase a house. She did just that, but what shocked the family the family was that she did it for little Travis. On down in the film, Walter messes up the money. He felt like he could fix it so he thought selling the house back would make make everything alright. That showed the he actually cared about something. That was not what neither of them desired, so it took Ms.Lena to give them all a break down on why buying that house in the first place was important. Walter then had a change of mind and to Karl Linder that they that they wanted to keep their house, that comes to show that within every person love does exist.
Although you have a crazy family life, whatever else you may have going on does not mean you shut the ones that love and care about you out! I feel that family has a lot of anger for all the wrong reasons. If you communicate more that will eliminate the drama that will soon be caused. With that being said love your family and cherish them cause they will be the ones that catch you when you fall.
