How to Become a Leader.
“Responsibility Increases Ability”
Before you can learn HOW to be a leader, you must be sure of what exactly is a leader. Being a leader means having such a personality that is so filled with righteousness and knowledge that people are compelled to follow you without you having to dictate anything to them. It means to seek clarity and give clarity. Being a leader is not hard. Like the title suggests, there is a leader in everyone and given below is a step- by-step manual, explicitly telling you on
How to Become a Leader. “Responsibility Increases Ability”
This was a line that I heard for the first time in fifth grade. It did not have the intended effect on me at that age. However, ever since I have understood the simplicity and the profound prowess these three words possess, my school life has been deeply impacted in all spheres. The literal meaning of this line is quite self-explanatory.
All this simple step requires you to do is to accept failure, embrace it! This is because, in order to give justice to this step, you need to face all your fears and PARTICIPATE. You must take as much responsibility as you can, as this will enhance your abilities and make you a versatile human being. From versatility comes leadership. Because when there is variety in your skill set, you can become more confident in imparting these skills to others. After all, leadership is ultimately sharing the good things in you with others.
Remember the famous dialogue, “With great power comes great responsibility”(Spiderman)? Well, this step is exactly the converse of it…with more responsibility comes greater abilities. This sums up my first point. Note that this is kind of a preparatory step before you begin with the other steps.
There is a famous Hindi saying that perfectly captures the essence of being a good leader: “There is no point of giving money to an ordinary human being, he will ultimately waste it. There is also no point in giving money to a leader, he will figure out a way to earn it on his own.” This brings me to my second point.
A Leader Is Always Self Dependant
This point is extremely important because of this simple logic: why should people come to you for help if you cannot help yourself? You can become self-dependant by increasing your abilities. A simple step to increasing your abilities has already been given above. Even more than just acquiring your versatile skill set, you must also have the confidence to share it correctly with others. This step is the easiest step to try and practice in your daily life. Try to make your life at home a more independent one. Try to help yourself in any way you can and soon you will find it easier and more natural to practice self-dependency at school and in all spheres of your life too!
A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline. Every goal that gets accomplished has a good plan behind of it. Harvey Mackay understood another very important step of being a leader and expressed the gist of the step by this quote. PLAN. DO. CHECK. ACT. REPEAT. This is how every dream becomes a goal and how every goal becomes an achievement. By having a proper aim and direction, you can easily be able to communicate to and lead your team towards the successful completion of your goal. Our school has been trying to tell us this in the form of SMART targets. By SMART targets, we are in a way becoming a leader of our own life and giving ourself a direction through which we can complete our goals. This 4 word cycle is something that every leader follows, whether knowingly or unknowingly. It is actually the core essence of the process that is required for the creation and completion of any goal. A careful study of Steve Jobs’ life also shows that during the creation of the revolutionary iPad, Steve Jobs was using this cycle at every step, from creation to marketing.
And those are the three basic steps to becoming a good leader. Follow these and you will automatically start seeing the changes in and around you. Remember, leaders are not defined by a badge or a certificate. Leaders are those who are confident of their life and are able to take the lead on it. Leaders are button proof. They hold the remote of their life and are not affected by other people influencing them in any way. So, practice these steps and discover the LEADER IN YOU! These steps are useful even if you do not aspire to be a leader. Normal students at the age of 14 to 15 react especially well to these steps too. It is also seen that great leaders discover their potential at this current age (14-15). At this age, teenagers are often frustrated as they feel ‘bored’. Following these steps and becoming a leader completely removes the ‘bored’ syndrome from their lives and makes their lives interesting and busy. However, like mentioned above, these steps will definitely incorporate a feeling of self sufficiency and that will ultimately improve your lives and the lives of others in your surroundings.
My aim is not just to create a ruckus, It is to try and make a difference.
Whether it is in my heart or in yours, The flames of passion should burn continuous.
