Alisha Sharpe, a 19-year-old soccer player gets into a brawl after several comments were tossed back force between the opposing teams. September 20th Halton Titans and Markham tigers went head to head in the final game of the season. Both tied for first this game was important for both teams. This final match happened at the OSC soccer fields in Vaughan.
The game started with titans getting the first kick and the tigers getting choice of side, the Tigers chose to play with the wind to their advantage meaning that the titans were at a disadvantage from the beginning.
Many scoring opportunities were created from both the tigers and titans but neither team were able to capitalize. Throughout the half there was a couple of comments made back and forth but nothing too serious yet.
After a hard played first half things were getting heated as the score was tied at 0-0 and there was tension starting to rise among some of the players.
Both teams had time to regroup and make up a game plan. Both teams stuck with a standard 4-4-2 formation. The Tigers got the first ball for the second half, they used that to their advantage by passing back and forth, tiring out the titans. The tigers were outplaying the titans not allowing any shots on net. 20 minutes into the second half the tigers capitalized and scored on a corner kick. Pulling the tigers up 1-0. ‘ Our team needed that goal to help boost and get the energy flowing through the girls, ‘ says, Coach Carol
After the goal was scored everyone returned to half except for two girls on opposing teams who started to get into a fight.
The ref failed to break up the fights and things got out of control. Alisha Sharpe a striker threw the first punch hitting Josie kings in the face. Both the girls went head to head in a fistfight, the fight was shortly ended after the coaches sprinted on the field to break the fight up. The mother of Alisha says ‘ I have never seen such anger from my daughter, I was shocked at her actions’
Although there were no serious injuries following the fight both girls were kicked out of the game, Alisha Sharpe leaving the pitch with a bloody nose. Josie Kings and Alisha Sharpe are facing fines up to $1000 and will appear in court for there hearing on October 4th, 2019.
