Our Town focuses on small towns life, the play is created to be in Grover’s Corners, NH. One of the main and major themes of the play would have to be not taking life for granted and living life to the fullest. Many people take life for granted everyday, every minute, and every second. Emily makes that extremely clear when she asks “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?”. The purpose of Emily’s early death was to show the way life is uncertain and how there is no escaping death.
The play shows us that we don’t know when we will no longer be apart of this world so make sure we live life to the fullest with no regrets. Keep moving forward because we never will get a second chance. Our Town goes from Emily’s wedding to her funeral in a split second, that is what brings the realization to everyone that our lives are so short to waste and try and relive the past when we cannot.
One more theme that i saw was the significance of relationships. Life and death are both inevitable the most important thing that everyone needs is a friendship and love. In Grover’s Corners the people always find and take the time to connect and get to know each other constantly. The more known companionship in this play is Emily and George’s relationship through their courtship and marriage.
One of the main and major conflicts in the play Our Town goes with the theme because the conflict is about life and death and living your life to the fullest and just looking forward.
People are failing to realize how people fail to see that you should live in the moment. Another conflict would be how George is acting conceited, prideful and full of himself. Emily decided to call him out on it because she doesn’t want to put up with it.
