Participative and democratic leadership styles
In this paper, I analyze and reflect on the leadership strengths and weaknesses I’ve identified through many of the self-assessments during the course of this leadership unit. I also examine relevant workplace events that help me validate my leadership style and the goals I have as a leader. There are mainly five contemporary leadership styles that are authoritative leadership, procedural leadership, transformational leadership, participative leadership, and laissez-faire leadership styles. With all of the above leadership styles, I am more lenient toward participatory leadership styles as well as democratic leadership styles (Smith 2022). In brainstorming sessions, I strive to ensure my whole team gets involved and gives their input and I always give mine last. It is clear from many questionnaires that staff felt comfortable communicating their ideas, and I attribute this to a participative leadership style that allows everyone to participate and make a contribution.
The strengths of my leadership style are that it simply encourages different kinds of collaborations and even tends to open up with the organization’s members and employers which allows me to carry out my workings in an appropriate way. This helps me in connecting with everyone in the workplace and even having proper facilitation of the ideas. I make decisions considering all the perspectives and even organize the best ways in order to accomplish the mission of the company. It allows me to have a free flow of ideas and even indulges in decreasing the competition which creates a healthy environment. The participatory leadership style allows me to improve my team morale and makes the process of decision-making appropriate (Northhouse 2022). It even allows me to consider the opinion of others and also understand their views as per the analogies that are said to be considered. This leadership style allows me to construct new ways and introduce several offers which will enhance the customer experiences in the hospitality industry. It even allows me to develop alternative ideas as well as solutions that are effective for the team and is relevant in terms of the hospitality sector.
The communication skills that I possess, allows me contribute to my management style team along with developing my active listening encouraging the members of the team in sharing different ideas as well as the management structures as well as in valuing the individual success of the team. It allows me in contributing in active listening and even encourages the members of the team as well as have individual success. It even works for individual success and even values the opinion of others that are appropriate in encouraging to have new methods of sales that are based upon the better customer satisfaction. Democratic leadership allows them to work towards individual success (Yahaya and Ebrahim 2016). There are several issues which are in relation to understanding different perspectives and even working on the ideas which allow me to make a successful value of working towards the aims as well as aspirations of the individuals. It is working towards the ideas which can be worked towards improving the performances as well as working towards the ideas in an appropriate way that is said to be possible. Several changes allow for improving the importance of the focus that can be used and done differently. Several performances can be managed in terms of working towards reflecting the leadership among the members and the workers. This motivates them to work closely with the people and also in developing new changes that are considered to be powerful. There are different aspects which work in improving the performances as well as making them work towards the work differently and even in dealing with the aspects in a more influencing way.
Advantages and disadvantages
There are certain weaknesses of participatory leadership. In my leadership, I find that there are certain situations where unnecessary conflicts seem to arise in the company. There are various issues and complaints regarding productivity as the decisions are based upon the different members and even analyses several situations which are considered to be appropriate. This kind of leadership always promotes me to make different processes that allow me to make different changes in order to work towards the ideas and also in promoting the expertise which needs to be there. There are number of participations which hampers the quality of production and most of the invalid decisions are also being taken that might create unfavorable situations in the workplace. The participative leadership style helps me to have lot of different perspectives which might create a sense of conflict in the workplace among my team members and even goes out of managing it properly. This usually happens when there are different mentalities at the work place. It is necessary to work according to different perspectives but to know everything beforehand is necessary to make a successful team and even in contributing towards better sales.
Nelson Mandela is considered to be an example whom I get inspiration from and follow his participatory system of leadership. This leadership style allowed me to take steps incorporating the democratic dimension from the same old traditional hierarchical management. It is the participative leadership that helped me to seek opinions as well as ideas before making any final decision in the company (Northhouse 2022). There are skillful team members who are making the team successful and also managing new aspects towards following a specific leadership style and also in making a personal decision. My leaderships style makes a positive impact on my team and even works to motivate the team members and even in managing the leaders in an appropriate way that is considered to be possible. It is the most common quality of the individual to work on the ideas and even in developing certain ideas which are necessary for managing the entire team as well as making certain accomplishments. The productivity of my members who are said to be at its peak as they are satisfied with the leadership.
I have previously worked as an area manager at McDonalds. Initially when I joined, in my first month of being a manger, I made a proper study on my employees as well as team mates and how adjusting they are in terms of this workplace. Gradually, I started taking their concerns and allowing them to make collective decisions as per the majority to know what is the most suitable way for the company. I even started getting a wide range of ideas that were floated to me from different employees to enhance the situations in an appropriate way that is considered to be possible. Following the participative leadership style allows me to manage certain aspects and even in organizing the best options which are said to be flexible. Later after six months I got the exact insights of each and every employee and worked on motivating them to work towards their desired goals (Northhouse, 2022). Allowing them to work towards the ideas and even in making proper engagements towards developing new ideas as well as in making ultimate several approaches which will help in operating different leadership styles. My work towards having a proper confident command as well as control over the leaders and even in making a specific fashion. It even allowed me to work towards the best aspects and also led me to empower my employees so that they give their maximum potential and even in making certain changes that are considered to be there.
Application in the author’s work
There were a few downfalls in my leadership style. This was regarding my personal traits and skills where I lacked empathy towards managing the team. This was regarding the conflicts which were arising between the working professionals. This made a little chaotic situation in the company which led to maximum conflicts which are needed in the company as well as in working towards getting the best results that are said to be appropriate and even in managing different ideas that need to be there (Rahbi, Khalid and Khan 2017). There are certain challenges where most of the changes tend to take place in the effectiveness of the leadership. I lacked empathy and this did not let me move toward my goals well. My progress towards this leadership style was appropriate and made me have a proper vision that allows me to work towards an encouraging as well as a favorable environment that needs to be there.
Therefore, in conclusion, I can say that I have made a lot of progress toward managing a specific role and even in managing different ideas that are said to be motivating factors. I improved on my traits and sensitivity to the situations that are appropriate way and also analyzed several situations that might allow me to work towards different ideas and even have a specific vision in achieving all the relatable goals by making proper decisions that are needed for the company. However, there are different issues and conflicts which might increase the overall performance of the company but it must work towards different ideas which are said to be important in making proper adjustments.
My Leadership Vision:
I want to become a successful leader because I have an understanding of the workplace pressures and also the skills to handle employees who need to thrive as per their roles. I even have the capabilities of assisting other people in dealing with new changes at work in order to deal complex issues and have a successful outcome by rightly assisting the employees in the company. I am capable of setting realistic goals for my team members that will ensure them to achieve the success they aim for, as per the hospitality industry.
The workplace values are related to work ethics, positive attitude, trustworthiness, loyalty, and even allows self-confidence. My values are even working towards attaining new ideas that are considered to be appropriate. My values include to follow the ethics well and being transparent with my team members. This allows me to get positive and genuine feedbacks from the team members which are being worked upon together efficiently.
The difference that I want to make in the company, is by sharing real life goals and experiences so that the employees are highly motivated towards being successful. To give the team members adequate support and training that will enhance their capabilities of working at a commendable speed towards attaining success. There are different acknowledgments regarding the ideas and even in encouraging other people to work towards the ideas appropriately. Several analogies make a common courtesy in dealing with the ideas appropriately in making several accomplishments.
Inspirations from Nelson Mandela’s leadership approach
My leadership vision reflects the value which is to understanding others’ points of view. It is even in working in engaging different perspectives that are considered to be there. Several analogies work in favor of the ideas and even in adding the greatest value towards the developmental plan with having certain strategic directions for the people and making new changes as per the several differences that we make. There are different ideas in order to work towards getting the best results and even in allowing certain aspects that are considered to be appropriate.
The values are in being aware and putting the right intentions as well as probable actions that are important in making new changes in leading with the different visions. There are different changes as per working towards the ideas in managing a proper developmental plan in making the greatest value towards guiding a developmental plan and even in managing several changes which tend to develop the organization in an appropriate way that is considered to be possible.
My vision is to make a participatory leadership style that accepts all the teams and even wants the people to develop the best ideas and make new changes as well as making several ideas that are mainly based upon the working professionals and also require certain ideas which need to be there. The vision even includes attaining several ideas which need to create a more impacting idea which is said to be needed in terms of working in terms of dealing with several situations that are necessary for the company to lead it in a better way.
Personal leadership goals-
The personal goals are relating to the leadership development are being given below:
- To be adaptable in terms of growth and change.
- Accept constructive feedback which helps in better progress.
- To have proper time management skills that make them follow the behaviors and even in addressing certain situations appropriately.
Achieving these goals will enhance my working experiences and even develop a healthy working environment that encourages the new ideas that will enhance the workplace team motivation and even developing a good team morale. There are various leaders who simply follow the team and consider their ideas to be the most important ones in the company. These goals will make the leadership more comprehensive as well as important in order to make several adjustments that are said to be needed in leading the company well so that they do not create any problems and make new ideas that are based upon the behaviors which are considered to be suitable for the company. These goals are to be accomplished in the next three months of time. It will ensure proper understanding of the work and even in making several new changes in order to get the best results which will recognition in order to make a specific time frame.
The desired behavior- the desired behavior refers to the proper understanding of the work and even in dealing with different changes who are considered to be there. The challenges can be handled properly so that most of them work towards the ideas making them analyze situations as per the employees (Bhargavi and Yaseen 2016). The desired behavior even includes managing the schedules and also in time management that is said to be needed in the company. The desired options are to channel the right behavior towards motivating the staff in the company.
Articulate the strategy- the strategies are to learn the aspects of time management and also to accept constructive feedback from different individuals who are considered to be present (Northhouse 2022). There are certain ideas that need to be there so that most of the options can be well initiated in the company. To develop the communication process and facilitate better communication with the members of the employees of the organization. It must work towards getting the best results in learning from the organizational goals. The articulation of the strategies that are to work towards the desired goals and even in improving the articulation of the ideas that support them to deal with various changes which are rightly being accepted in the organization in order to understand the objectives.
Acknowledging the potential barriers- to make proper acknowledgments in case of the challenges that tends to occur. These barriers are communication barriers and potential conflicts that might arise in the company among the employees. To know more about the challenges that occur in terms of making an effective leadership. To work on the solutions which will help in removing the barriers in terms of leadership. There are different ideologies that are supposed to be there and also in making certain resolutions which will make proper changes in the company.
Possible resolutions- to manage proper communications and even in working with proper set of rules that are essential for recognizing the situations and make a healthy working environment for the team. The possible resolutions are in managing the strengths and also in working towards the weaknesses so that the barriers are removed. In accepting new changes and having a diversified decision-making process will allow the employees to take each step carefully. The decisions are made collectively that allows the company to reach to a common conclusion which is beneficial for the entire company.
Identification of the strengths that will help in achieving the goals- the strengths are managing conflicting situations properly and even in dealing with the ideas that help in working towards the betterment of concepts and even following certain strategies which manage the strengths well in the company. Making relevant feedback also helps in resolving conflicting situations in the organization. The leader must know how to manage time and even take relevant actions that make the leadership effectiveness in terms of resolving the feedback. The identified strengths even include the participation of maximum working members and making decisions on a collective basis.
The three people who will support leadership development are supportive work colleagues, mentors, and coaches. The coach will work towards getting the best results in dealing with the changes in dealing with ideas as per making new considerations that are said to be possible. These three people will help and support in having proper directions towards suggestive ideas that are considered to be there in order to make necessary remarks which are in relation to the changes and different aspects that are said to be there. There are more options that will help in recognizing the aspects and even in monitoring the developments in an appropriate way so that no issues in the development of the leadership styles are considered to be there. There are different systems that manage several systems that work in getting proper developments in the company.
These three people are being selected as they will guide me and be a proper coach in making me understand how to proceed further in difficult situations. The personal impact on meeting my desired goals will be to get the opportunity to lead the organization effectively and even make necessary recommendations that are considered to be there in order to work towards the best changes. This support will make sure that most of the impacts are being made so that proper leadership skills are being developed and there are no further issues that are being caused in the company. The leadership style needs to be developed so that proper and effective leadership goals are being achieved on time.
