Business Rejuvenation
The report is prepared to discuss about the effectiveness of teamwork and the various challenges and opportunities that are created for the managers and team members. The various approaches to find solutions to the problems will also be assessed and lastly, a reflection of own experiences while working as a team will also be considered as a major part of the report to demonstrate the principles of management effectively (Rudani 2013). The report considers the case study involving Vigor Skin Care where the team work has been fostered along with the focus on the production of best quality skincare lotions, soaps, cosmetic items and other beauty products. The mission and vision statement are properly understood by Peter, which has further helped in delivering safe and healthy skin care products to the customers (Vigourskintherapy.com.au 2018).
Vigor Skin Care was considered as the sleeping dog within the beauty and cosmetics industry and delivered a wide range of cosmetic products, skin care lotions and soaps that were marketed by packaged consumer goods companies in North America. Peter was unsure about the reason for business downfall and so it had been essential for him to maintain a good product portfolio, which should not be same as the other new entrants in the market (Kobersy et al. 2015). Due to the skills and knowledge possessed by Peter while working at one of the largest consumer goods companies, he got consistent promotions like transformation of positions from national accounts manager, then global accounts manager and even received multiple rewards for becoming one of the largest retail chain team leaders. Peter managed to beat the sales target who was provided to him ad this is how he became accustomed with the management of financial attributes and developed a reputation for his efforts while leading teams at Vigor Skin Care too (Levin and Nolan 2014).
The major issue faced was to manage the business through rejuvenation where he needed to push the products that might not be successful among the customers while he could not also make any agreements with the headquarters to gain more resources required to rejuvenate the business efficiently. The company, i.e., Vigor Skin Care also lacked a creative vision and mission statement, due to which there was lack of coordination among the team members and thus the company failed to position itself properly to address the consumers’ needs and preferences regarding the fashionable and healthy products and services (Goetsch and Davis 2014).
Due to lack of vision and creative mission statement, the team members failed to understand the desired goals and objectives to be achieved and even lacked proper communication to advance towards a positive work environment. The major challenges faced by the leader could be the lack of diverse sets of skills and knowledge among the staffs (Vigourskintherapy.com.au 2018). All the employees used to think same due to the same skills and knowledge, which created difficulties and thus the consideration of project scope, would be essential for determining the skills and knowledge required to serve the team and foster collaborative working (Kerzner and Kerzner 2017). The team needed leaders who would provide them with a sense of purpose and direction and thee leadership skills were very poor at Vigor Skin Care, which created complexities in guiding the team members in the right direction by holding them accountable and this slowly decreased their morale level. Full commitment to the performance and efforts was not provided, which enabled creation of confusing roles and made the team members failed to work as a well functioning and cohesive unit (Galegher, Kraut and Egido 2014). There were conflicts and misunderstandings that deteriorated the sharing and exchange of ideas, furthermore resulted in the formation of a poor work environment.
Challenges Faced Related to Teamwork
To resolve the issues, it is necessary for Peter to assess the marketing campaigns and place some strategic recommendations with proper support provided by Sandy Fryda, the marketing director. Vigor, being a brand worth saving, is important to ensure that the employees work as an unit to understand the concerns of customers for the fashionable products and services, furthermore renovate those in the form of a new skin conditioner that is natural, not allergic and contains vitamin E and UVA protection (Paull et al. 2013). Sandy should work as a motivator and political advisor to Peter for ensuring that the strategies are developed and implemented accurately to enable abundant supply of rejuvenated products and services and meet the demands in the market too. The solution to the issues related to lower employee engagement, lack of communication and inability to manage a creative vision could be overcome when Peter, Sandy and Josh would work together, as an unit, to undergo transformation of the business positively. It was also found that the products and services of Vigor were costly and were delivered lately too, due to which, complexities arose while dealing with the suppliers and management of poor quality too (Whetten and Cameron 2014). The leader or manager of the organization, Peter, should consult with the manufacturing and production departments and conduct meetings to develop creative processes and ensures deployment of political capital whenever required goal of the organization.
To promote effective teamwork, the mission statement and creative vision should be acknowledged by the employees, which is the role of the manager or leader. Allowing for a clearly defined goal or objective is essential along with the accountability of every team member and project leader or manager too (Schoemaker, Krupp and Howland 2013). The team leader should consult with the cross over manager to specify the tasks to be allotted and its quantity, quality, resources required and time taken. It is important for the team members and team leader to discuss about the matter for which the issues have arisen and then focus on the clarity and definition of the accountabilities of team members for the project undertaking (Ebrahimi Mehrabani and Azmi Mohamad 2015). There should be coaching or training and developmental sessions arranged for both the manager or team leader and the employees to strengthen their interpersonal skills and facilitate teamwork, coordination and performing the roles responsibly (Chuang 2013). Mnaging proper communication is essential too along with clarification of purpose to the employees while providing them with rewards and benefits can also be effective for keeping them motivated and encouraged to perform to their potential.
Conclusion
The report was prepared to demonstrate the various issues and challenges faced while team working by the manager or leader of the organization. The major issues were lack of communication, lack of creative vision and inability to engage the workers altogether to promote effective teamwork. The solutions included effective leadership skills, proper communication and the management of a creative vision and mission statement to guide the team members in the right direction for the accomplishment of business goals and objectives effectively.
Solutions to the Problem
From the report, it has been understood that important of teamwork has been highlighted. I believe that teamwork is essential not only for strengthening the workforce efficiency, but also for enhancing the productivity of the organization along with higher revenue generation to accomplish the business goals and objectives. Vigor Skin Care company was facing some major issues related to the lack of innovation, which hindered the business rejuvenation while there was also lack of creative vision and mission statement required to accomplish the business goals and objectives easily. Due to this, the employees were unable to understand their job roles and responsibilities properly, which was followed by lack of communication and inability to show their diverse sets of skills and knowledge. I have understood that there are various challenges associated with the lack of a creative vision, which has not only affected team working, but also has reduced the workforce performance largely. It was, indeed, important to hold the team members accountable for their job roles and responsibilities, which could assist in making team, understand the organizational purpose along with a proper direction in which they could move on to achieve the business goals. Often there might be confusions regarding the roles and responsibilities, which should need proper collaboration, sharing and exchange of ideas and opinions to foster teamwork, effective coordination among the team members and enhanced business performance too. I have also understood that lack of communication and creative vision among the team members could also result in conflicts, misunderstandings and poor working environment, where production will be hindered and there could also be lack of innovation. Due to this, it should be effective for placing the team members’ concerns at first, keep them motivated and encouraged by providing them with the right rewards and benefits based on their performances and level of contribution put by them. A proper working condition and maintenance of a good culture should also assist in making the team members’ work as an unit, furthermore monitor the performances of the employees too. This would help in keeping track of the performance of team members and make necessary changes and improvements to foster teamwork, collaboration and better communication. It should assist me to communicate with others in the future while working as a team and at the same time, allow each and everyone to share their individual thoughts, ideas and opinions to ensure better collaborative working and increased workforce performance through increased profitability and higher production level too. All these aspects that have been learned by me would help me to progress in my career and become successful in the professional career too.
