Merits and Demerits of Stereotyping
Discuss about the Stereotyping in workstation.
A stereotype is one of the characteristics or a general image of a person which is related with the behavior of the person. It is also seen that it is a type of a thought that states an individual or the behavior of the individual. Negative and positive aspects give impact on the personal self-reliance of an individual. Stereotyping provides direction to the top management to conduct the activities by considering specific way which is perceived by the notions (Duguid and Thomas-Hunt, 2015).
When communication process is made it is seen that the top management gives focus on stereotyping as there are many people who are from a different culture. It is seen that false statement can give negative impact on the culture of the company and it also creates problems between the workers of the company. Also, it is seen that stereotyping consists of the diversity factor like age, religion, and culture which help to give a contribution to the organization. This paper focuses on analyzing the effect of stereotyping in the organization.
In this paper, the merits and demerits will also be discussed by focusing on the theories related to organizational behavior. In the last phase of the report, the discussion will be made on the recommendations.
In the recent scenario, it is analyzed that it is important to analyze the demand for the workers so that activities can be conducted smoothly in a proper manner. The organization emphasizes on selecting those employees who are qualified enough. Qualified employees are selected so that company can enhance the growth in a proper manner. The employee who is qualified knows that how to conduct and coordinate the activities so that goals can be achieved. It is also analyzed that to retain the employees in the company is one of the important factor (Konings and Vanormelingen, 2015).
To retain the employee the company should focus on giving training so that they can feel good in conducting the activity of the company. If the employees don’t know that how to conduct the activities then it is difficult to accomplish goals and objectives in an effective manner (Dhar, 2015). A positive environment is also one of the factors that can help the organization to retain its employees in the company. Diversity is also one of the factors that can help the company to accomplish the overall goals. It is seen that if there is a positive environment in the company then it can be easy to accomplish the overall goals and objectives in an effective manner (Hara, 2014). Department of human resource also has a great role in conducting the activities of the company. When the theories of organizational behavior are considered then it is important to have the assurance of the employees who are from different background and also belong from a different background so that proper statement can be used which do not affect the activities of the company (Albrecht et al., 2015).
Theories Related to Organizational Behavior
It is seen that organizational behavior is concerned with the study of an individual and also the connection can be made so that communication can take place in a proper way. It assists in considering the procedures and rules so that activities can be conducted with diversity in the company. It is seen that the activities are conducted smoothly when the employees are efficient towards the activities. People who are from different background and culture conduct the activities of the company. Top management of the organization focuses more on stereotypes so that the workers who belong from different culture and religion can be managed with care. Also when the changes are done it is important to consider the stereotypes (Cameron and Green, 2015).
It is seen that diversity management helps the company to compete with the competitors prevailing in the market. It also helps to conduct the activities according to the demand of the employees. It can be evaluated that if stereotyping is taken in a wrong way then it can be difficult for the company to grow in the market. For instance: it is seen that Cadbury focuses on promoting the policies related to diversity so that between the workers, equality can be maintained and the activities can be conducted in a smooth manner. The company gives more focus on the policies so that the individuals who belong from a different culture can conduct the activities in an effective manner.
There are various merits which are concerned with the use of stereotypes and it is important for the top management to create a good connection with the employees. It is analyzed that if negative statements are given to the people then it can demotivate the employees who are working in the company. To interact with the employees in a proper way it is important to have proper knowledge of the culture and religion.
It is analyzed that to connect with the different customers the stereotypes can assist the workers in analyzing the culture of the company. It is also evaluated that the top management of the company provide assurance that proper culture is taken into consideration so that interaction can be made effectively. Stereotypes can also help to organize the information of the organization by also considering the culture of the company.
Also, it is seen that stereotypes can help the managers in providing the data which is connected with every employee of the company. By focusing on stereotypes it is seen that on accurate information the focus is given and also it can sometimes create employment discrimination that can be seen in the company. Every person in the company has some qualities and also it is essential for the individual to be fit in the category of stereotypes. If the top management of the company tries to maintain relationships with the stereotypes then traits are offered to the workers that can be considered as untrue.
Recommendations to Reduce Stereotyping
If the workers focus on stereotypes then it can create problem to give focus on their beliefs which are related to the traits of a person. It can be considered that if manager’s focuses on stereotyping then it can increase the misuse of the company. It is important to stop the employees from considering the stereotypes so that negative environment cannot be created in the company.
It also increases the problems in the organization that takes place between the company and the employee. It is seen that it can also effect on the productivity level of the employees. Teamwork is an important factor that can help the company to accomplish overall goals and objectives in a proper manner (Riley and Bondibene, 2017). Another issue that is analyzed is stereotyping in which the overall motivation level is low and the negative impact can be analyzed on the environment (Garnero, Kampelmann and Rycx, 2014).
It is seen for the organization it can be difficult to see that each and every employee in the company is motivated. If there is no motivation in the employees or someone is dissatisfied with the job then it can be difficult to survive in the competitive environment. It is important for the top management to focus on Maslow theory so that needs can be analyzed by the company in an effective manner. Maslow theory can help the company to consider the basic needs so that success can be achieved in a proper manner (Healy, 2016.). There are many steps in this theory which should be considered like self-actualization, esteem, love, safety and physiological needs. It is seen that if these need s are considered by the organization then it can enhance the motivation level of the employees who are conducting their routine activities on regular basis (Fallatah and Syed, 2018). ERG Theory is also one of the theories that help the company to satisfy the needs and want of the customers (Lazaroiu, 2015). If the managers of the company are discriminating by considering stereotyping then it can affect the performance of the employees and it can be difficult for the employees to conduct the activities of the organization in a proper manner (Kanfer, Frese and Johnson, 2017).
So, to reduce stereotyping it is important to focus on the diversity training so that equality can be maintained. By analyzing the paper it can be evaluated that stereotyping has many merits and also various limitations. It is seen that stereotyping can assist the top management at the time of interacting with the employees so that good environment can help to retain the employees in the company. The limitations which are analyzed in the paper can affect the performance of the employees and also due to this it can be difficult for the company to survive in the competitive environment. Motivation factor is also affected by giving focus on the concept of stereotyping so the managers should try to promote diversity so that growth can be achieved in a proper manner.
