Introduction for essay about Anthony Doerr
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1971, the middle child of five. My father was an electrical engineer and my mother stayed home with us kids. We were a close family, and I have fond memories of growing up in the suburbs outside of Cleveland. I loved to read and write from a young age, and I knew that I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.
After high school, I attended Yale University, where I studied English and Creative Writing. I graduated in 1993, and then moved to Denver, Colorado, where I worked as a journalist for a few years. In 1997, I moved to Boise, Idaho, to pursue my MFA in Creative Writing at Boise State University. I graduated in 1999, and my first book, The Shell Collector, was published that same year.
Since then, I have published four more books, including the novel All the Light We Cannot See, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2015. I currently live in Boise with my wife and two young sons. I continue to write stories and novels, and I am always working on something new.
