His father, Nicomachus, was the court physician to King Amyntas of Macedon. Aristotle was educated at Plato’s Academy in Athens. He left Athens in 323 BC to return to Macedonia, where he served as tutor to Alexander the Great. After Alexander’s death in 323 BC, Aristotle returned to Athens, where he founded his own school, the Lyceum.
