Overview and Instructions:
You may earn up to fifty (50) extra credit points by submitting 5 critical reviews. The points you earn will be added to your final grade. For example, if your final grade is an 850, you could bring it to a 900 by completing five extra credit critical reviews. Any extra credit points are earned by viewing a piece of art at a local gallery, art center, or museum and writing a critical review on it. For ideas on where to see art, please refer to the “Museums and Galleries in the DFW Metroplex” list. Turn in your reviews as you complete them into the dropbox under the “Extra Credit” button on eCampus that will be open throughout the semester. I will grade these at the end of the semester, and the points you earn will be added onto your final course grade. Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, using 12 point font in either Calibri or Times New Roman. It should be no shorter than 1 full page. It should be structured as follows:
Introduction Paragraph
Provide the title of the work of art being discussed (remember to italicize the title of a work of art), the artist’s name (or state anonymous if there is no name provided), the date or century the piece was made, the medium used, and the location of the piece (in other words, where you are viewing the work of art). In addition, please provide a brief description of the piece or composition.
Body Paragraphs
Create a visual image with words. Utilize the Visual Elements in Chapter 4 and Principles of Design in Chapter 5 when analyzing this first paragraph. Also, discuss the content of the art work. Plainly stated, explain what you believe the artist is trying to say in this art work. Then, tell me how the Visual Elements and Principles of Design support that interpretation you came up with.
Conclusion Paragraph
Discuss your reaction to the art work, whether you thought it was successful in terms of composition and content. Do not introduce any new thoughts or ideas in this paragraph, as you are just summarizing points you’ve already made.
Photo
Be sure to include a photo of the work of art you are discussing. You need to be in the photo as proof of your attendance that you viewed the work of art in person. You can include a second photo if you want me to have a better image of the work of art itself. The photos cannot be taken from the website of the art gallery or museum you visited. Nor should it be taken from the internet.
