The restaurants have conducted strategic review on its operations by doing SWOT analysis and identified that in addition to eat and take way options, home delivery services must also be incorporated on the website of the restaurant. Picoso wants to update its web based system for incorporating home delivery services. This would be helpful in enabling picoso to serve large number of customers.
In this report, benefits of mobile application are compared with web based order entry system for analyzing the best suitable system for Picoso franchise. Work breakdown structure is created in this paper for in-house development of the restaurant online service. In addition to this, the paper also illustrates alternatives to in-house development of mobile application that might be pursued by picoso.
It is identified that there are number of benefits of mobile application in comparison to web based system. According to Pavluck et al. (2014), the business must consider that development of mobile application helps them in staying ahead in context to competition. The benefits of mobile application over web based system for the restaurant “Picoso” is provided below:
Mobile apps are faster: It is identified that mobile apps are 1.5 times faster in comparison to web based data entry system and can also able to perform actions quite faster. It is identified that the mobile applications generally helps in storing data on the device. In the web based data entry system, the data are required to fetched from various web servers which can taken few minutes of time (Lin et al. 2017) The web based system generally utilizes JavaScript for running various functions while the apps generally run on different frameworks which help in making mobile applications five times faster than the web based data entry system.
Personalized content: It is identified that consumers or users generally utilizes tailored content as per their preferences. It generally assists them in offering proper tailored communication. It is found that user-centric personalization is considered quite critical in making the experience of the customer’s delightful (Dalmasso et al. 2013).The mobile application generally observes various types of engagement of the user for offering custom recommendations and for filtering different types of updates.
Instant online and offline access: The mobile application helps in offering the facility of instant access in comparison to web based data entry system. It helps in allowing the users to consume different types of content properly with the help of storing data. Ability to work without having internet connection is considered as one of the fundamental differences between mobile application as well as web based data entry system (Song et al. 2014). It is identified that proper connection of internet is needed while doing some critical tasks like payment however it is found that some of the basic functionalities are provided by the app which can work in an offline mode.
Topic 2: Work Breakdown structure for in-house development
Designing and branding: The web based data entry system generally relies on browsers in order to support various types of functions while mobile applications are mainly designed in order to support various types of swipe gestures including pinch, drag, double tap and more. It is identified that each of the mobile app are mainly customized as per the branding of the organization.
Cost minimization and productivity improvement: One of the biggest benefits of mobile application is that it helps in enhancing communication between the customers, vendors as well as employees and assists them in sharing proper resources by providing replies about the user behavior as well as products (Waring et al. 2014) It is identified that they generally helps in enhancing the productivity in content to available tools as well as charts that are accumulated by the customers. It is found that users also utilize social channels for expanding the social footprint of the restaurant on the internet.
Interactive engagement: It is found that mobile applications have their own interfaces that help in allowing the users to face two-way impressive experience. There are number of other coding platform like iOS, android etc that are used for providing proper experience to the users.
Self-Service platforms are considered as the acceptable alternatives for in-house development of mobile applications. According to Cappetta (2015), self service platform is defined as a subset within the knowledge management software category that generally specializes in a way in which the information, processes, various rules as well logics are collected for accessing with the help of the decision support associated interviews (Demirkan and Spohrer, 2014). It is identified that this service can be utilized in order to build an application within an hour with the help of drag and drop template full with appropriate features of business including shopping carts, in app-purchase, mobile-ordering system as well as loyalty programs. It is identified that one of the major benefits of utilizing self-service platform is that they can properly take care of the entire app store submission procedure. The next step is opening a developer account with the help of the iTunes.
Topic 3: Alternatives of in-house development of a mobile application
It is identified that the approximate time that is needed for approval as well as denial is five to seven days. Accelerator is generally utilized for the developer platform that helps in translating code Hartwig for writing it into JavaScript. The identified advantages of self-service platform are that a direct line of communication is created (Mateer et al. 2017).This generally helps in providing proper results as one can communicate the needs of the brand directly to the various influencers so that proper circumvent the fees which are generally charged by the marketing vendors. It is identified that self-service platform can be used by the restaurant in the alternative of in house development of mobile application as the platform helps in delivering faster service as well as helps in enhancing the satisfaction of the customer (Demirkan and Delen 2013). Proper feasibility analysis: It is very much important to undertake the feasibility analysis properly in order to ensure that the project will provide positive outcome to the restaurant.
Proper designing of the app: Proper design of the mobile app must be created before implementing the mobile application. This will be beneficial for making the development of mobile application successful.
Conclusion
It can concluded from the entire assignment that mobile applications are very much beneficial for the restaurant in comparison to web based data entry system due to the advantages that are provide by the mobile applications. It is identified that the mobile application generally helps in providing number of advantages including personalized content, instant online as well as offline access, designing and branding, interactive engagement as well as cost minimization. Furthermore it is identified that the Work breakdown structure that is created in this paper helps in providing proper overview about the in-house development of the front-end of a mobile application for Picoso restaurant. In addition to this, it is identified that self-service platform can be used by the restaurant in the alternative of in house development of mobile application as the platform helps in delivering faster service as well as helps in enhancing the satisfaction of the customer.
