Aims and Objectives in Sports Fieldwork
I have gone through a remarkable learning experience in being associated with Leicester and Rutland sport. Personally I belonged to an under developed country like India where there is lack of career development opportunity. From my childhood I was good in sports which passionately inspired me to choose sports as my career path. As per geographic location my country was not very developed in terms of economy and employability. At that time I took a decision to change my residential inhabitancies from India to England. England is geographically and economically well developed country. The sports industry existing is UK is vast and progressive where large number of people can reach the peak of success. Among different types of sports and activities football attracted me immensely.
I had to face enough difficulties in enlisting my name in Leicester. Leicester is primarily recognized as English professional football club established in the midland region of Leicestershire. This club belongs to England’s top division of football which competes in the premier league. However, this reflective journal is going to portray the journey of a career seeker who has dreamt to be a professional in the sports field. My journey from a dedicated and struggling player to the football coach is critically reflected in this journal from which the new comers get an inspiration on how to be focused and loyal towards the profession that one has selected for career growth.
The primary aims and objectives of experiencing sports fieldwork are numerous. The objectives are as follows:
- To provide clear information about the career opportunities within Leicester sports field
- To critically share the ways of gaining own identity
- To find out the ways on how to overcome challenges for building effective career opportunities
Football is the sports genre with which Leicester is constituted with. In this specific field total 73 new job opportunities are there based on which I can render immense career progression. The job opportunities that is most prominently available on Leicester include Player, Fitness coach, Sports massage therapist, Sports coaches- cover supervisors, Lead Coach (Little Kickers SE Leicester & Northants), Sports Coach, Gymnastics Coach, Health Education Officer. As a fresher I would never be able to get the opportunity of becoming a sports coach. With the help of gaining knowledge and experiences I would be able to develop my career gradually. At the very initial time, I have the opportunity of becoming a responsible player. Apart from that I can become a match day host as well. However, as a professional I need to get accustomed with different environment and situation happened at my workplace.
Leicester has given me a remarkable journey throughout my entire career. After coming from an underdeveloped country I was not aware of the fact on how I can progress my career as a sportsperson. I was applying for a secured position in sports industry. Suddenly, I got the opportunity from Leicester as a player. Initially I have joined as a mid-fielder who had to play the role of defender. After that I got the opportunity to become striker of Leicester. I have survived as a player of Leicester for five years. I want to show my utmost gratitude to the respected Lead Coach, Fitness coach and Sports massage therapist who have helped me immensely in staying fit and healthy throughout the year. My honourable coach has helped me immensely in understanding the fact that individual should be always in search of better platform and good opportunity. As a result, the individual would be able to get a huge success in life.
Job Opportunities in Sports Field of Leicestershire
However, after working as a player of Leicester I got the scope of becoming junior sports-coach who aimed to direct the players towards proper goal. In this kind of situation, the players get motivation in providing their best performances. As a sports coach my mission is to motivate the players so that they can only concentrate on the performance beyond going all diverse cultural barriers. When I was a new comer I got £148/week. After that my wage started to increase and I got £120-198/day per day. When I was appointed in the role of sports coach I got a better hike in terms of salary package. At that time, I have received a monthly package which is quite good for leading a healthy regular life. £70,000 was my per month wage in the designation of sports coach.
At the very initial journey you may not be technologically advanced. You may not be aware on how to find out suitable job opportunities for enhancing my career. After being competent in advanced technology you can start survey the job posts mentioned in LRS website and other job websites for a period of 10days. As per the job opportunities and designations you can create excel sheet updating necessary data regarding job designations, skills required and expected salary as per designation. After collecting necessary data regarding the necessary job opportunities updated in the various websites you can store out which of the following designations are suitable as per your competency level. However, as per scope, opportunity and competency you can apply for different posts of Leicester. In the role of mid-fielder I have achieved immense reputation and appreciation from my seniors who have given me immense support and motivation in achieving the peak of success. However, I have observed that I had to struggle a lot at the initial journey of my career due to communication barrier, and technological incompetency.
While evaluating the career opportunity I have observed that total 94 jobs were found in the last 10 days and the jobs are spread across 17places in Leicestershire. Among 94 jobs 42% are Full-Time, 34% are Part-Time and 24% are other types of jobs. From the official website of Leicester I have noticed that 54% of the jobs have salary more than £20,000. Apart from 20,000 and 19% are in between £10,000 and £20,000. 17% of the designations are holding less than £10,000. The categories which are classified in a name of different designation includes management (57%), coaching/physical, activity (34%), Teaching (3%), apprenticeship (4%), volunteering (2%). After being associated in Leicester as a player I got a promotion as a sports coach which enabled me to show my personality as a leader. As I was at first appointed in the role of a player I know their psychology closely. It helped me immensely in becoming a good sport coach in future.
My Job Opportunities from Leicester
In order to create a brand image and brand identity the business executives have to make an effective marketing plan. Leicester as an organization is not exceptional to this concept. In order to grab the attention of competent employees and hire them within business associates I have made systematic and effective marketing plan. By using social media platform the business experts of I have made marketing campaign. The primary purpose of this marketing campaign is to evaluate the aims, objectives and goals of the organization along with its service quality. It is however observed that I have made proper and systematic marketing plan by initiating job fair through social media platform. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are the most prominent platforms of social media based on which I have conducted campaigns and job fairs.
This particular marketing plan initiated by me has helped me immensely in career progression plan of numerous new comers. I have observed that this job fair initiated by me was very much responsive. People belonging to various geographical backgrounds and attitudes were aware of the marketing and promotional activities. As per my personal experience I have observed that this kind of promotional campaign has helped me immensely in getting detailed overview about aims and goals of Leicester. I got influenced to apply for various post in job fair arranged by marketing executives. Eventually, I became a part of this particular organization.
My primary goal behind this marketing plan is to grab the attention of young talents who are competent enough in showing their skills in the realm of sports industry and seeks job opportunities for the same. As per my personal experience I have faced the same issue. As per my geographic distance it is however observed that England is far away from my native land. Therefore, it was impossible for me to get overall knowledge and experience about the initiatives taken by Leicester by sitting at my own workplace. Social media is the only one platform from where I have gained detailed knowledge and experience about the activities implemented by business executives. With the help of social media platform people can get to know that 94 jobs were found in the last 10 days and the jobs are spread across 17places in Leicestershire. Among which I was willing about player and sports coach. However, this kind of social media promotional activities helped me immensely in enhancing my career growth as well. I got the opportunity to become an active member of Leicester and earning a satisfactory amount of money for increasing my economic growth as well.
Actions Taken While Finding Out Jobs Opportunities
I order to be the part of Leicester I had to face immense challenges in collecting necessary data and information. Linguistic barrier was one of the most significant problem due to which I have faced innumerable difficulties in communicating with target audience. In this kind of situation, a major communication barrier immensely hampers the entire interaction method within my team. As an inhabitant of India I used different English dialect and accent that was completely different from the British people. Being unable to use proper accent and language my I had to receive immense humiliation from team members. Racial barrier is one of the most important factors due to which I had to face innumerable challenges in communicating with the people of social media. Due to this kind of racial barrier I was not able to share my problems and emotions with each other. While facing any challenges at the time of practices I had to face difficulties in presenting my concern to my coach due to language barrier.
I am being from different racial backgrounds. As a result, people had to face immense challenges in making participative decision with me. While providing any decision regarding the success of team I could not share my views and thoughts with others due to psychological barrier. As a result, I was very upset to perform well which reflected on my attitude and behaviour immensely. The major psychological barrier I faced was proper communication. It was quite difficult for me to work in an environment which was completely difficult to my tradition and culture. While communicating with the people with different lingual approaches I had to face immense challenges in sharing my thoughts and views. The entire situation was very drastic and tough when I had to raise my concern to my sports coach. I had to use non-verbal communication method while interacting with my sport coach. However, these particular challenges happened in the sports field.
While I was playing the role of a leader or a sport coach I had to face another challenges. I as a leader was facing immense difficulties in sharing my thoughts and views with those persons who had language barrier. In this situation, I preferred to use non-verbal communication method. With the help of non-verbal communication method I could express my views and thoughts. In dealing with the players I had to face innumerable difficulties in decision making due to cultural barrier and psychological barrier.
Marketing Plan
Professional development is a long term and continuous process where an individual professional tends to focus on improving own skills and competency with the gradual progress of work. After being associated with various people in my sports field I have come across numerous eminent personalities from whom I have taken immense inspiration. The necessary professional development that occurred at the time of being a player is as follows.
I have developed my personality by communicating with my sports coach effectively. I have listed numerous audio-visual clips of personality development. I have listened motivational speeches of numerous eminent scholars who have helped me in gaining confidence and zeal. While talking to my own colleagues I did not have to face hesitation in sharing my views and thoughts. After rendering my personal development my time management skill and decision making skill has been improved. I have learnt to take appropriate and immediate decision amidst immense work pressure. In this kind of situation, I am successfully able to fight with crucial circumstances which enabled me to become a strong person and professional.
In order to improve my communication skill by overcoming racial and psychological barrier I have received an effective training and development session. This specific training and development session helped me immensely in improving my language skill and competency. I have also noticed my I had least confidence level when I was a new jinee. After, attending this training and development session I have gained immense confidence with the help of which I could survive in the field by overcoming all crisis and barriers. The feedback of my mentor has left a major contribution on the overall professional development. After every performance on the field my mentor used to give me effective feedback be it positive or negative. Based on this feedback I got the opportunity to improve my quality and skill. Automatically, the areas of my identified drawbacks got resolved very soon. When I became a sports coach I got immense opportunity to render professional development.
People having language barrier could not communicate with me properly. I took the initiative of providing them effective training and career progression plan. While providing guidance and teaching them for becoming an efficient sportsperson my professional skill was gradually improving. With the help of this improvement I became a responsible and competent professional in the sports field.
I have identified that fact that some of the areas are still left where I need to improve my professional skill and competency for surviving in this field. The areas of improvement are as follows:
- My professional development as a sports coach
- My management skill and decision making skill should be improved more effectively in dealing with the diverse cultural backgrounds and attitudes
- My professional and behavioural approach would have to be more friendly so that juniors do not hesitate in communicating with me
- I would have to look forward for better opportunity and designation for enhacing my career path
Conclusion:
This study has provided extensive overview about my professional development from a sportsperson to an experienced football coach.
