Segments of Business Marketing
This paper will aim to discuss about a career plan. Every living human being in this planet has certain aspirations to what they wanted to be from their childhood. These aspirations usually change from time to time. During the initial years of life the aspirations are mostly superficial as during that time the kids do not get a hold on their skills and area of particular interest (Bergmark et al. 2018). Sometimes it is seen that these dreams do not align with the skills and expertise of an individual. For instance, when I was a kid, I wanted to become a doctor as both my parents are from the same background. However, as I grew up, my interest in biosciences were nothing significant to what is needed in the healthcare industry. By the time, we were to select our area of expertise I was pretty sure, I did not want to be a doctor anymore. Therefore, while choosing a career path what is more important than the dreams and wishes are the relevant skills and expertise of the desired sector. Due to my interest and expertise in business management, finally I decided to explore the marketing sector (Grow and Yang 2018). There are several segments to the marketing careers and I was focusing on the business marketing which works with the marketing specialists and the said specialists draw up plans and strategy so that a firm can compete in the industry and the revenues are maximized from product and service selling. The following segments are going to analyze this particular career path and what measures I will be needing to align with the same path. Moreover, the skills needed in this career sector and the strengths and weaknesses I have will also be related to come to a conclusion if this is the correct path for me or not.
It was mentioned several times by my teachers and mentors at school that the segment of business marketing is vast and therefore there are several directions to which I can lead my career path. The term marketing in business management typically means all the functions and steps which lies in between developing a product and finally selling it to the market (Al-Surmi et al. 2020). In order to perform activities in these steps what is needed is that to understand the demand of the existing clientele and the required attributes of the product to draw in additional customers. There are several intermediate steps which a marketing expert needs to take care of before drawing up a marketing plans. Some of these steps are product build-up, advertisement, public relations, media involvement, plans and strategies related to sales pitching and others. In other words, marketing experts are the people who takes the brands up to the pinnacle of the business industry.
If my goal is to become a marketing manager then just like any other profession, it will also require to follow up some necessary steps. The starting step is always to first complete my bachelor’s degree. Every company in the international market, no matter how big and small it is, always prefers to have a marketing executive on board who has relevant education and skills. In order to develop and enhance my skills, therefore, completing my graduation specializing in marketing. Generally, in this program students are taught about the marketing theories and concepts along with the recently developed advanced technological mechanisms like, data science, analytics, search engine optimization, content management, social media marketing and handing the interface. Now, a few years back all of these advanced mechanisms were not mainstream, but during the last couple of years, as a result of rapid digitalization, these are becoming the vital attributes of business marketing segments (Unni 2020).
Steps to Becoming a Marketing Manager
After completing the bachelor’s, the second step in this career path is to gather experience by working as an intern in any company. During the last semesters of the graduation programs, the universities usually organize a campus hiring program where companies come down to the university campuses to either hire interns or hire full timers depending on the relevant skills and expertise. However, just after college, the companies hire the candidates n an entry level position only and which is legitimately correct. A candidate who has potentiality and knowledge but no professional skill whatsoever, he or she will necessarily get hired to perform basic tasks. Still, this on job experience will help in understanding how marketing scenarios in the corporate world works.
The third step in this career path is considered as a necessity; that is pursuing and MBA degree. There are several arguments that MBA can be optional, but in real world, according to my research, more preferences are given towards candidates who hold an MBA degree (Sapkota and Adhikari 2019). Needless to say, MBA is an advanced course in the marketing segment, which increases a candidate’s chance to expand their careers. Moreover, an MBA degree after completing an internship in a company will help a candidate in attaining the necessary skills he will be needing to work proficiently as a marketing expert.
In this part of the paper, I will frame my skills and how they link with the career option which I have chosen will also be discussed. Although currently I am pursuing my undergraduate degree, there are a few skills that I possess and there are several other skills which I will be needing to sharpen to excel in my career as a marketing manager. As mentioned above, several technological attributes are becoming mainstream in the marketing sector. During the starting of the past decade the maximum needed technical skill was to prepare a brilliantly constructed power-point presentation and deliver a pitch by navigating the same. However, currently due to rising courses of digitalization and the aftermath of the global pandemic, which has shifted the working segment of each sector mostly virtual, most of the corporate entities are keen to use the online platforms and tools to expand their businesses. I was always a tech savvy and had an interest in the technological attributes and online tools. Currently I possess a public social media where I follow several influencing people who have utilized the social platforms to either develop their businesses or create marketing strategies as a freelance consultant to help several corporate entities. As it aligns with my career path, I keep tabs on these strategic management planning and more specifically their approaches which give me a brief insight to how to enhance my skills to attain expertise. If I want to excel in my career path, then possessing the qualities to handle the social media and search engine marketing has become a necessity in today’s world.
After the technological attributes, the next skill which I do believe I have is, organizational management. Organizational skills typically mean that the ability to multitask on several projects at a same time (Agranovich et al. 2019). Out graduation program requires us to work efficient on assignments and learning outcomes. As there are more than one paper in which I need to put my efforts at a same time, I have attained this skill. Moreover, in personal life, I am a planner and executer in most of family events and get together. Most of the responsibilities fall on my shoulder and mostly I like to work on that. Further, in high school, I used to manage several events organized by the school as I was the cultural secretary. Therefore, if I get the opportunity to work with an organization, along with gaining experience, I will also be utilized these gathered ideas and concepts to become a valuable employee of the organization.
Necessary Skills for Marketing Professionals
While organizing and conducting event, it is pretty important to have a clear and profound communication skill. In the world of marketing, communication is a key attribute for successful business conduction. In every step of marketing management, communication helps the marketing managers to perform their marketing duties as well as sort any problems escalated with the employees and clients. In most of the cases it is seen that the employees have fulfilled their part of bargain as required by the client and the client is still not satisfied. Then again, another scenario can be when the client and employee both possesses fair arguments and the problems raised are completely circumstantial. In scenarios like this, the marketing managers are usually given the responsibility to sort things out so that the order can be closed on a positive note and neither of the involved parties get harmed in any way. Apart from this scenario, there can be several other cases when the marketing managers need to conduct team meetings and meet the press. During these case scenarios also the communications skills become the main attribute. In my case, some of these skills I have; for instance, I have a convincing power and keep my cool during any crisis situation. However, I have no practical knowledge on how to deal with the clients of a company, therefore, that will need more practice and expertise on my part to enhance my skills.
One skill which I do not possess is the leadership skill. I can manage people and make them listen to what I need to be done, but this happens when responsibilities are given to me. In other words, taking the initiatives sometimes become difficult on my part. Previously, I was a reserved and introverted person, and taking the initiative seemed to me like rocket science. Although the shy and shaky nature is mostly gone, still taking the initiative part is yet to come.
Next comes the creative skills which I believe every human has a bit in them. I am a big enthusiast for making art and craft projects. Moreover, during the pandemic lockdown, when every one of us were forced to stay at homes, everyone was trying out on their new interests. I like other people also tried my hands on painting and doodle arts. Although, this is not much compared to what is needed in the marketing segments of the companies, I believe, this interest of mine will help me learn to utilize my artistic traits in my career paths. Marketing managers usually discuss with the graphic designers before constructing an advertisement plan. It is obvious that no matter in which industry a company is working in, sales get accelerated if the advertisement and marketing campaigns are eye catchy and consumers find it attracting. Not only designs but the promotion of any good or service can also use some creativity to pitch them to the board of directors and finally to the clientele. It is obvious that the first impression of a product and its marketing campaign is the most important to engulf the customers.
Apart from these major skills there are several skills which a marketing manager must have to make a company’s business ventures successful. The most important things is to acknowledge the shortcomings and develop the same along with sharpening the already existing expertise skills. It is said that growth is a consistent process and the world currently is in a situation where changes can take place at any time. Therefore, adaptability is important if anyone wants to sustain in the corporate industry.
Just like any other working segment of the corporates around the world, the marketing segment also faces several challenges which get solve using the marketing managers’ skills and expertise. Thought, I am nowhere near the authority to suggest something professionally acceptable solutions to the existing problems off the marketing segments, I will try to frame a brief idea so that this analysis gets some insights to what it is like to face challenges. Firstly, it is often argued worldwide that, the marketing experts are not given enough credit although they are one of the main driving forces which help a company to reach its potential pinnacle. During the last decade it was seen that due to the efficiency of the marketing specialists, the companies worldwide are acquiring a promising amount of revenue and still proportionate to that, the marketing managers are not given enough credit. It is a globally accepted problem and no single person has the ability to omit it overnight. The second problem is the perception of the companies where they claim that there are not enough efficient marketing specialists who know what they are doing. Therefore, it will be my focus to become a valuable asset for the company I will be working for so that no question can arise in my part of work. For this purpose, I will need to sharpen my skills. The third problem can be of client dealing where the marketing experts do not get a hold on how to deal with their clients. It will need enhanced communication skills to deal with this issues. Fourthly, current, many marketing experts are facing issues related to digital marketing. As I mentioned earlier in this paper, I have observed social media marketing and with planned skill development programs I believe I can work in the digital segment of marketing. The last problem is budgeting problem. Sometimes, it is seen that the companies want to create a marketing plan but their budget is significantly low. However, though it is not possible to develop a first class marketing plan with a lower budget, sometime, it is necessary to make use of the individual expertise to develop a low budget high quality promotion plan. This skill will develop in time as I will be gathering experiences. The marketing experts who have been in this field for decades have these skills; for newbies like us aspirants, it will take the said decades to attain such expertise to develop a low budget exclusive promotional plan.
As per the contribution of the models in regard to the skill development, I have come to understand that unless my ambition is to become a marketing manager, I will need to take the required steps, just like any other job. Always, the first step is to finish my bachelor’s degree. Every firm in the worldwide market, no matter how large or little, desires to have a marketing executive with suitable education and skills on board. In order to expand and strengthen my talents, I decided to pursue a marketing-related bachelor’s degree. In general, students in this degree are taught marketing theories and ideas, as well as sophisticated technical mechanisms such as data science, analytics, search engine optimization, content management, social media marketing, and interface handling.
Description
My instructors and mentors at school told me multiple times that the field of business marketing is huge, and that there are many other paths I could go with my career. In business management, the word marketing refers to all of the tasks and procedures that occur between the development of a product and its final sale to the public (Al-Surmi et al. 2020). For carrying out the actions in these phases, it is necessary to first understand the demand of existing consumers as well as the product’s required features in order to attract new customers.
Feelings
I personally feel that I have talked about how I’ve framed my skills and how they relate to the job path I’ve selected. Although I am presently pursuing my undergraduate degree, there are a few talents that I already have and a few more that I will need to develop in order to succeed in my profession as a marketing manager. In the marketing industry, a number of technical features are becoming more common. The most important technical talent at the start of the last decade was the ability to produce a superbly organised power-point presentation and give a pitch while navigating it. Due to expanding digitization courses and the aftermath of the worldwide pandemic, which has changed the working segment of each industry to a virtual environment,
Evaluation
In order to evaluate the fact, I would like to state that I am nothing approaching the expertise to recommend professional remedies to the existing difficulties in the marketing sectors, I will attempt to develop a quick thought so that this analysis might get some insight into what it is like to confront obstacles. To begin with, it is frequently stated across the world that marketing specialists are underappreciated, despite the fact that they are one of the primary driving factors that assist a firm in reaching its full potential. During the previous decade, it has been observed that firms across the world have gained a promising amount of income as a result of the effectiveness of marketing experts, but marketing managers are still not given enough credit in proportion to this.
Analysis
From the discussion made above, it can be analysed that companies’ impression that there aren’t enough effective marketing professionals who know what they’re doing. As a result, I will make it a priority to become a useful addition to the organisation for which I will be working so that no questions emerge in my role. I’ll need to brush up on my talents for this. By client handling, in which marketing gurus fail to grasp how to interact with their customers. To cope with these challenges, it will require improved communication abilities. Fourth, many marketing specialists are currently dealing with challenges relating to digital marketing. I studied social media marketing and feel that with structured skill development programmes, I may work in the digital marketing section.
Conclusion
I would like to conclude that although developing a first-class marketing strategy on a shoestring budget is impossible, it is often important to rely on individual talent to construct a low-budget, high-quality promotion plan. This talent will improve over time as I get more experience. These talents are possessed by marketing specialists who have worked in this industry for decades; for newcomers like us, it will take decades to get such knowledge in order to design a minimal unique promotional plan.
I have seen social media marketing in action, and I feel that with targeted skill development programmes, I will be able to work in the digital marketing sector. The final issue is one of budgeting. It is sometimes noted that businesses seek to build a marketing strategy but have a limited budget. Although it is impossible to create a first-class marketing strategy on a shoestring budget, it is sometimes important to rely on individual talent to create a low-cost, high-quality promotion plan. This talent will improve over time as I get more experience.
Conclusion:
I would like to conclude that due to my passion and experience in company management, I eventually decided to pursue a career in marketing. There are numerous types of marketing occupations, and I was interested in business marketing, which involves working with marketing professionals to develop plans and strategies so that a company may compete in the market and maximise income from product and service sales. The next sections will look at this specific career path and the steps I’ll need to take to stay on the same track. Furthermore, the abilities required for this professional area, as well as my strengths and limitations, will be considered in order to determine whether or not this is the right path for me.
