Project Objective
Bali is an Indonesian tourist attraction located in Sunda Island. Volcanic mountains, Coral riffs, beaches, dense forest are the main attraction of Bali. There are many Hindu temples such as Uluwatu temple which are the important religious sites in this region. The topic of the current discussion is the increasing threat experienced by Asians in Bali. With the increasing population which is nearly 4 million, there are some major threats that could be seen in this region. The surrounding environment and general safety for tourists and local population is becoming vulnerable with the increase in crime rates in Bali. The popular tourist attraction is now nearly unrecognisable and a total collapse of local authority and security has been taken place. Since 1970, Bali has been one of the popular cultural tourist destinations and since then Bali has been getting acceptance among tourists from across the globe. As the concentration of tourists has been increasing, many challenges emerged especially for Asian in this region. In the present discussion, many aspects and dimensions has been mentioned and analysed.
The project objective is to analyse and discuss the aspects and details of challenges emerged in Bali province encountered specially by Asian. During the course of the discussion, detailed investigations of airport frauds, dangers emerged from wild animals in the forest regions, security issues for tourists specially thefts and deceptive acts by local vendors has been analysed and investigated. A quantitative and qualitative approach has been adopted for the investigation and significant outcome could be seen.
The tourist concentration in Bali has been increasing as cultural tourism as well as destination tourism since 1970s. With the increasing tourist population, the challenges encountered by them have been investigated in the present discussion (Bryman, 2015, p.56). There have been many aspects that could be seen while investigating the challenges. Tourists could encounter frauds in airports during arrival and departure in and from Bali. Many parts of the Bali are covered with dense forest which is the major attraction for tourists for jungle adventure. There is always a possibility of security issues for tourists from wild animals in Bali. There are many issues has been reported that is of thefts of valuables from tourists and visitors in Bali which is another major concern and challenge for Asians visiting or residing in the province. The present study and investigation emerges different aspect of the challenges and through systematic analysis specific and significant outcome has been documented. These outcomes could be implemented in further studies and investigations for analysing the issues and challenges in more detailed fashion. Local authority of Bali could adopt these findings and implement preventive measures against any security issues encountered by the tourists. Tourists and visitors could adopt these findings for their own safety and prevention while visiting Bali (Flick, 2015, p.34).
Project Scope
Bali is getting popularity in cultural tourism and adventure tourism sector 1970s onward. Since then the concentration of tourist has been increased significantly in these regions. Many hotels and resorts have been extending different parts of the Bali for accommodating the increasing number of tourists and visitors. The tourist population has not been affected even after the terrorist attract in 2002. As the number of tourists is increasing significantly, there is a great need of land acquisition increased proportionately (Garg et al. 2014, p.98). Construction and development work has been conducted on these lands and nearly 700 hectares of land has been accrued. Infrastructural work has been going on all over the Bali including building and roads for developing the urban structure of the region. Increased infrastructural development incurs more waste and dumps which has a huge impact of the environment and surrounding of the Bali. The number of transportation has been increased significantly in the urban areas and noise and air pollution regulations are coming into the picture in recent years. Mass tourism emerged much adverse effect on the Bali’s social, environmental structure. Visitor’s and tourist’s behaviours, mainly drugs, alcohols abuse could have negative effect on Bali’s social structure. Associated crimes have been increased significantly in the regions. Apart from mass tourism effects on Bali, the visiting tourists are also facing challenges which are the current topic of discussion (Saunders et al. 2009, p.11).
Justification: Many locals have been relocated for the infrastructural development for the construction of hotels and roads which is also has a negative effect on social structure. Exposure of various cultures due to tourist interactions could infuse impurity in the traditional Bali cultural. Mass tourism in Bali evolved a great threat for natural and cultural resources as for example natural water supply, beaches, forests which suffused with air and water pollution due to increased traffic, infrastructural development and population explosion. There have been much legislation and restrictions are coming into picture from recent past regarding controlling pollution in Bali (Yin, 2013, p. 213). There is a huge initiative has been taken to decentralize the Indonesian government as these adverse effects have no impact on the local authority. An inconsistent distribution of power and authority could be seen in the seventeen thousand islands including Bali. Elected members such as sheriffs run these islands and they don’t encourage any new law incorporation specially for reducing environmental impact. New laws will directly impact on tourist activity which may reduce tourist concentration in these regions. This will hugely impact the financial gain of the concerned authority. Infrastructural work and real-estate developers will encounter loss and will have direct impact on the authority (Silverman et al. 2016, p.21).
Literature Review
Literature gap: from the above discussion it is evident that there is not much discussion about the issues and challenges encountered by Asians in Bali irrespective of visitor or resident. Mass tourism has almost universal effect whether it is positive or negative on the hosting country but the nature of challenges could be varied from region to region. A detailed investigation and analysis need to be done for understanding the challenges encountered by the visitors and tourists especially Asian in Bali (Hitchcock, 2009, p.45).
Realism research philosophy has been chosen for the research design and formulation. This research approach constituted of both realism and interpretivism. Various questions and enquiries have been put forward to the tourism experts in semi structure interview mode. The answers have provided much information which is qualitative in nature and through realism and interpretivism approach a research direction has been formulated. The primary question has been put forward for the general interpretation of the research objectives and an overview has been formulated from the primary question derivation. The semi structured interview evolved an idea about the challenges encountered by the Asians in Bali which helped two designs the quantitative analytical framework for the current topic (Coker et al. 2011, p.607).
The primary and secondary questions designed for the research approach has been examined through the semi structured interview with tourism experts. The outcomes have been interpreted in various ways for the multi directional approach for understanding the dimensions of the current topic. A quantitative analysis of the primary and secondary questions has been done and on the basis of realism and interpretivism from various sources apart from interviewing the experts. Online journals and blogs helped to understand the basic direction of the topic outcome (Monojit, 2011, p.1).
In the quantitative analysis section tourists has been participated volunteering for the quantitative data collection. Primary and secondary questions have also been put forward to the tourists who will help to definite data about the qualitative outcomes from the previous section. A structured and to the point question answer session has been formulated for them and on the basis of data collected a quantitative research has been done. Both the qualitative and quantitative approach helped to frame the research outcome. The quantitative data help to validate the data collected from the qualitative analysis through realism approach and hence a concrete and distinctive outcome could be seen from the current research (Emmers et al. 2011, p.137).
Justification
Financial: there is always a financial constrains when conducting the research work. There is great necessity for travel into various parts of the Bali and conduct an interview sessions to tourists, residents especially from Asia. Huge financial support and sponsorship is needed for conducting the both the qualitative and quantitative research (MacRae, 2011, p.76).
Time: time is another limitation for the conducting the research. Various interview sessions needed to understand and validate both the quantitative and qualitative aspect of the research approach. Therefore a great deal of time is needed to be invested for the proper outcome of the research topic (Warren, 2012, p.303).
Biasness: the interviewee and interviewer both could be affected by various biasness factors. There is no definite answer free from biasness is possible to get and hence true outcome of the research is limited by nature (Sukma, 2012, p.147).

Conclusion:
It has been concluded from the above discussion that irrespective of tourist and resident, the Asians are facing many challenges in Bali. Local population has been considering the security issue seriously for a few decades and that has been reflecting in the surrounding environment of Bali. Hotels and resorts have been taking preventive measures and increased security surveillances around Bali. Many tourists and visitors are now feeling safe in this region now and planning to revisit for remote and calm holiday enjoyment.
Learning is a way to channelize one’s energy towards creating awareness on a definite subject. In this current assignment, I have learnt many things; however, most important among all that is learning the way to learn. Though it is a bit vague to here throughout the course of my research I have learned how to collect knowledge and assimilate that within my psyche so that I can be able to utilise it in the time of need. My main focus during the course is to make myself more knowledgeable and learn new techniques to overcome hurdles that life has thrown into my path.
In this reflective account, I am going to disclose my learning process, feelings and new insight that I have achieved in the due course of the research. As a choice of the topic, I have chosen challenges faced by Asian in Bali. In this reflective account; I am going to give the reason behind my choice of subject and also disclose my plan to accomplish the project. I will also add the how this will help me in my future career. I also jot down my personal experience as well as opinion in this particular piece of reflective account (Baldwin et al. 2013, p.32).
Literature Gap
There is a big difference between knowledge and wisdom. In spite of the matter; both the topic seems similar preliminarily. Knowledge can be present anywhere in the universe; however, it becomes wisdom when somebody assimilates it and reflects in it in their action. In this case, the challenges that are encountered by Asian in Bali is always present there whether I identify it or not; hence, it is knowledge. However, the process of identifications the problem enhance my analytical skill thus it becomes wisdom as I apply it in real life. It will help me to see the situation in depth and consider all of its facets before reaching to any conclusion.
Initially, when I have selected the topic I only have a vague and preliminary idea about the subject topic. However, the more I penetrate into the subject matter the clearer it becomes to me. Before starting the project I have planned my activity which I need to perform during the due course. The first and the foremost thing; that I have done in this project are making a time table in the form of gnat chart. This gnat chart helps me to watch my schedule and prevent me from losing valuable time and in the final moment run out of time (Vandenbosch, et al. 2015, p.58).
From my previous experience, I have learnt that I spend too much time in researching the topic that I have left with less time to compose my thoughts and knowledge into word. In this particular assignment, I have started the assignment while researching instead of leaving the writing part for the end. In order to gain knowledge so that I can identify the challenges faced by Asian in Bali, I have gone through a number of literature pieces and perform secondary research both in online and offline form. I investigate the ways which will help me to reach my destination that is to identify the challenges.
I have seen that in this case both the secondary as well as primary research will help me to pinpoint my query and come to a conclusion. The secondary research creates a base on which I can plan my primary research. It will also help me to understand what studies already have done on this subject till the date. This will also help me to choose the direction of my research. On the basis of the secondary research, some question is evolved in my mind regarding the topic. After finishing the secondary research I have planned my research methodology. Planning the research methodology is a crucial part of the success of the entire research study.
Research Design and Methodology
I have chosen realism research philosophy where I have the benefit of both positivism and interpretivism philosophy. Initially, on the basis of interpretivism philosophy, I have intended to interpret the thoughts of experts in this field. In order to go further deep and exclude the human bias, I have chosen quantitative analysis. The research approach for this study is deductive where I have to check that the challenges that are specified in the secondary research are viable or not (Acharya, 2013, p. 91).
I have decided to run a pilot study where I planned to involve managers of small tourism organisation. I asked them regarding the problem that they have faced while conducting the tour in Bali. I also frame a semi structured interview so that I can provide them with their freedom to express their thoughts regarding the subject matter. On the basis of the semi structured interview transcript, I have analysed their answers with the help of the thematic analysis. On the basis of the themes that I have identifies I have framed survey question. This survey questions are distributed to the prospective tourists and then a quantitative analysis is done to identify the accurate challenges.
This research study provides me with an opportunity where I can learn the process of doing the research. In this case, I gave started from zero, starting from choosing the topic of the research, through the choice of research methodology and analysis to conclusion and recommendation. This whole process makes me use my theoretical knowledge into practical world. While choosing the topic have to consider the ethical implication that I have learnt in the due course of my study; so, it can be contextual and helpful for the mankind.
This whole process helps me to enhance my self-esteem where I can accomplish a serious task on my own. In future, if my career wants me to perform any kinds of business research I will be confident enough to perform it. It also makes me fragmentize the task on the basis of priority and manage the time accordingly. It also helps me to assimilate the knowledge that I have learnt in the due course of my business study and transform those into wisdom.
