Adverse effects of climate change
Discuss about the Sustainability Studios for Convention on Climate Change.
Climate change is among one of the major issues which is affecting the status quo of the world at the current moment. The climatic change which the world has been experiencing for quite some time now is adversely affecting not only the flora but the fona systems of the world and is the kind of issue which demands immediate mitigation (Lawrence and Weber 2014). Voinov et al. (2016) have stated that inspite of the ardent efforts of the national governments of the various nations of the world these nations have failed to chalk out a sustainable as well as feasible plan which is likely to check this particular issue. I personally believe that the major reasons which have given rise to this particular issue are manmade and thus it would be apt to say that the issue under discussion here demands immediate redressal because of the severity of the consequences which it has on the entire world itself. I am personally of the opinion that the issue under discussion is of paramount importance because of the numerous problems which it is causing at the current moment like the changing pattern of the world climate, global warming, various kinds of diseases, natural disasters and others. In addition to affecting the lives of the human beings from the various parts of the world in an adverse manner, the issue under discussion here also poses a significant threat to the status quo of the world itself. For example, the changing climate of the world has caused the teutonic plates under the surface of the oceans and also the lands to shift and this has proved catastrophic for the earth.
The adverse effects of the issue under discussion have made it imperative for the various nations of the world to chalk out feasible plans through which the issue can be mitigated. The first major initiative on the part of the various nations of the world to mitigate the effects of the climatic change and also to resolve the issue from the very grass root level was the “Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)” which was signed at the “Earth Summit” in 1992 by the leaders of more than 176 countries of the world (Sedac.ciesin.org 2018). The main resolution of this particular treaty was to curb the high level of emission of the various greenhouse gases (Sedac.ciesin.org 2018). In addition to this, the World Bank also from time to time undertakes various kinds of initiatives as well as developmental programs to mitigate the high level of damage which is being done to the environment by the human activities (Prokopy et al. 2015). I am of the opinion that the Paris Agreement signed in 2016 by 196 nations of the world is also an important one in this particular context. The terms of this particular treaty required an initiative on the part of the major nations of the world to try and lower the temperature of the world by “2 °C above pre-industrial levels; and to limit the increase to 1.5 °C, since this would substantially reduce the risks and effects of climate change” (Unfccc.int 2018). In addition to this, there are other initiatives like the “Pollution Eating Bikes” which have been developed in the nation of China that tries to reduce the amount of environmental pollution in a significant manner (Prokopy et al. 2015). Furthermore, I believe that along with these recent innovations as well as treaties there should also be initiative on the part of each and every individual of the world to contribute in his or her own manner to curb the increasing amount of pollution which they are causing at the current moment.
Importance of immediate mitigation
The primary stakeholders of the issue of climatic change which the world is facing at the current moment are the human beings from the various parts of the world whose lives have been affected by the issue under discussion here because of the nature of close association which they share with the earth (Cheung et al. 2015). The net result of the climatic change is being manifested in the shortened lifespan of the human beings, the increasing number of diseases to which they are subjected to and others. I would like to add at this particular juncture that the major recipients of the adverse effects of the process of climatic change are the human beings as well as the other livings beings of the earth whose normal cycle of life have been affected in a significant manner because of the issue under discussion here. This is affecting the animals of the world as well since it is seen that the natural habits in which they used to thrive in the earlier times is no longer available to them and thus many of these animals are finding it hard to survive. It is a pointer of the severity level with which the lives of the various human beings from the diverse parts of the globe that they have been compelled to take various kinds of remedial or mitigation measures (Cheung et al. 2015).
Thus, I would say that the issue of climatic change is one of the major ones of the world which demands immediate mitigation. The mitigation of this particular issue is not only important for the survival of the human beings and the other livings beings of the earth but is important for the very survival of the earth itself. The various international treaties signed by almost all the nations of the world as well as the diverse innovations like the “Pollution Eating Bikes” are indicate of the initiatives which the human beings have undertaken for the mitigation of the issue under discussion here.
The term stakeholder is one which is generally referred to in the particular context of the business world. The stakeholders are the individuals or groups of individuals who show a keen interest in the business activities of a particular business enterprise and or more appropriately are the individuals who are directly affected by the activities of a concerned organization (Field 2014). In the particular context of the business world the stakeholders can be seen as the end users of the products as well as the services offered by the concerned organization or for that matter the individuals who get directly or indirectly affected by the decisions or the strategies followed by the concerned organization (Murphy et al. 2016). It is generally seen that the various stakeholders who are associated with a particular business organization not only get directly affected by the decisions or the strategies followed by them but at the same time have certain expectations and demands from the concerned organization which the business organization needs to fulfill for the effective performance of their business (Murphy et al. 2016). Thus, it would be apt to say that the stakeholders play a very important part in the context of the business world and the growth as well as the development of any business organization depends on the extent to which it is being able to fulfill the needs and the requirements of these stakeholders who are associated with them. I would like to say that in the context of the present issue which is under discussion here the stakeholders are the individuals or groups of individuals who are directly affected by the process of climatic change which the world is experiencing at the current moment. It is significant to note that the process of climatic change affects both the human beings as well as the other livings in almost the same manner and the mitigation of this particular issue thus becomes of paramount importance for both the human beings as well as the other living beings living both on the surface of the earth and also under the various water bodies.
Stakeholders of the issue
The primary stakeholders who are associated with the process of the climatic change which is under discussion here are the human beings as well as the other living beings of the earth (Voinov et al. 2016). I personally believe that the major reason which made life possible on the earth and also the primary requirement of the above mentioned stakeholders is a safe and sound environment wherein they would be able to not only survive but at the same time would be able to fulfill their biological requirements in the best possible manner. However, the climatic change has altered the natural climate of the various geographical locations of the world in a significant manner and thus the human beings along with the animals are finding it very hard to thrive. The situation is likely to worsen significantly in the future if no stringent action is being taken against it. Thus, the requirements of the primary stakeholders of the issue under discussion here, namely, the human beings is an optimal environment condition wherein they would be able to fulfill not only their biological goals but at the same time their other needs as well as requirements in the most effective manner (Voinov et al. 2016). In addition to these, Dilling and Berggren (2015) are of the viewpoint that the human beings in the recent times have indulged in various kinds of industrial activities and thus they also need the kind of climatic conditions wherein they would be able to do in an effective manner. Furthermore, farming is one of the major means of sustenance for the human beings and this particular process is directly dependent on the climate and thus adequate climatic conditions are one of the major requirements of the human beings (Dilling and Berggren 2015). Moreover, Lawrence and Weber (2014) have stated that the human body has been designed in a such a manner that it would be able to sustain itself within a particular temperature as well as climatic condition only and thus adequate climatic condition becomes all the more important for the human beings. The other living beings of the earth like the animals as well as the plants are also dependent on adequate climatic conditions for the fulfillment of their biological goals and other requirements (Lawrence and Weber 2014). Thus, it would be apt to say that requirements of almost all the stakeholders who are associated with the issue which is under discussion here are more or less the same.
