Background
The growth in globalization has impacted how communication is applied in the workplace. Few companies have used the increasing trend as the opportunity to expand their business while others are unable to cope up with the increased globalization and changes in the business operations. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the business managers to ensure that they adapt to such changes and they train their employees to cope up with changes as well. The communication has been streamlined by various factors such as increased globalization, millennial workforce, internal communication challenges, and employee engagement.
The world is experiencing various changes since the emergence of the digital era. Technology is expanding almost every day, and people are engaging in finding ways of coping with such changes. The technology changes have seen the emergence of changes in the communication scale of employees and the management. Such changes are affecting the performance of the business depending on how the organization makes use of technological changes (Iwabuchi, 2018). Various issues have been affected by such changes and that organizations need to put in place and to ensure that it does not put the organization in a position of collapsing.
The problem that has prompted this research is on the age gap between employees in different organizations. Most of the organizations are comprised of millennials, baby boomers, generation X, and generation Z. as well there are differences in the culture and the beliefs of different employees. Therefore, there is a challenge on integrating the communication of such different employees in the organization. The millennials are more advanced in the application of the technology while the baby boomers are only used to the old ways of communicating, therefore they need proper integration. Language use and communication styles are in a constant state of change thus requiring reflection and quick response to the changes (Thornton, 2018). The changes are as a result of a continuous change in the social context, communicative technologies and the new communicative environments created by the technologies.
The purpose of the report is to conduct a thorough analysis of the communication challenges that are facing business organizations. The new media has fostered interactivity between corporations and business organizations, employees and business customers.
The millennial generation is full of strengths, and the managers should take that opportunity to make use of the strengths for the benefit of the organization. The managers should learn how to manage the millennial generations in the organization. However, the millennial values and attitudes vary greatly from those of the baby boomers there is a need for integration through communication since each has an impact and the role they play in an organization. Therefore, the managers need to be aware of this differences and learn how to utilize them well for the growth of the organization.
The Problem
Most of the current workforce is composed of the millennial and generation Z workers. The millennial know the use of technology. Such group is not used to the traditional ways of communication since they have been influenced by the internet and the digitalization in the use of technology. The millennials are changing the way businesses are conducting their affairs since the organizations must ensure that they incorporate them in their daily undertaking for the success of the business. The millennials are becoming useful in the organization since they know how to apply the technological devices that are being incorporated into the organizations (Vesic, 2010). It is vital that the organization understand how to make meaningful use of such generation to enable them to achieve their goals. The millennial employees can raise their opinions in the organization through online forums and not a must to wait for a physical meeting.
Therefore, it is essential to ensure that such changes are accepted in the organization. Every organization must ensure that they install digital devices and adapt to the technological changes for them to remain competitive. The digital devices and technological changes will provide quick decision making to the organization and will make them deal with any issue of concern that requires immediate attention (Mo, Mistilis, & Del Chiappa, 2015). The digital devices, network, and technological advancements have enabled real-time provision of a solution to the challenges that exist in the organization.
Better communication can make a world of difference for any form of business. The results of good communication can be reflected in the level of the employees’ satisfaction and efficiency. The new business needs to engage their employees in every form of decision making. The millennial employees tend being included in making decisions that affect them as an employee. The millennial workforce will be satisfied and happy if the executive management engages them and considers their opinions (Georgiades, 2015). The employees will feel like part of the organization, and this strategy overcomes some of the challenges that occur in organizations. The employees have a critical role they play in the organization.
The employees have to interact with the top management to give their ideas. Such interaction can only be successful if there is a form of communication. The management needs to ensure that there is free communication that is allowed for their employees. The employees should not be restricted in the way they interact with the top management. If the management does not have free interaction with the employees, they will make them feel discouraged from participating in any discussion (Young & Hinesly, 2014). The management needs to organize a forum where the employees need to communicate with the employees. There should be a form of discussion that ensures that the employees are engaged and feel part of the decisions that are made.
Purpose of the report
Communication is a vital tool in managing and enabling the success of a business strategy. However, setting the strategy of the business and aligning it with the communication aspect in any organization is the most challenging role a manager can endure in a business. The management must put strong measures to ensure that they communicate well all the strategies of the company to the most relevant parties and ensuring that they adhere to the requirements. The communication department must put their strategy to match those of the organization to enable them to interact with the top management. It is the role of the top management to analyze whether they have adequately achieved in making the communication alignment (Hamelink, 2014). The alignment of the communication with the strategy of the organization helps in adding value to the organization. It also helps in setting the strategy and the roles of every individual in the strategy accomplishment.
The communication value circle gives a critical framework that can be used in detecting the areas where there are misalignments between the communication strategy, organizations strategy and other strategies used in the organization. It is essential to reflect on the current situation and the strategic directions for the future, to make the framework. The manager needs to use communication value circle to find out areas where the communication can be used to add value to the organization (Thoruan, 2018). There should also be identification and prioritization of business goals by the use of the inner circles of communication value circle.
Global communication is affected by the advancement of globalization, and it helps to advance the business opportunities and to remove any barriers that might hinder achievement of its overall goal— the removal of a cultural barrier and developing the global village aspect where people can interact freely. Business can communicate with other business without being hindered by geographical difference and understand each other well (Hamelink, 2014). The businesses can share important information with other organization and can get solutions to challenges they possess through communication (Berry, 2012). Therefore, globalization and global communication have shifted the environmental, cultural, political and economic elements in the globe. People can share their culture through globalization.
Business can use communication and globalization to access markets on the global scale and be able to venture in areas where they could not manage without the assistance of globalization. Therefore, globalization has opened room for new markets and interaction with foreign investors as well as customers since it has simplified the communication between various participants (Hongcharu, 2018). The management should ensure that they equip their employee to understand how they can make effective use of the communication strategies to win in its strategies. The use of communication in the globalization helps the organization to solve the cultural difference with other organizations that have different cultures (Gerardi, 2018). It is the role of the management to ensure that they engage all the cultures and adapt to diversified culture since every organization has its way of doing things and communicating that is different from the other. Therefore, different cultures can be understood and absorbed through communication.
Conclusion
When organizations adopt effective communication, they will have a good opportunity for them to succeed in their strategies. The excellent communication of management with their team will increase the level of morale and boost their productivity in an organization. The employees need to be informed about the organization strategies, vision, and direction through communication. An informed team has high chances of employee satisfaction, and they feel more secure with their roles. Communication has various roles that it plays in an organization advancement (Morabito, 2016). The organization gets multiple advantages as a result of applying communication. The benefits are that it promotes motivation, altering employees’ attitudes, helps in socializing. The employees can expand their knowledge in the field where they get effective communication, and that makes them more innovative. The ideas need to be heard and should be implemented as soon as it is proposed.
