Global LGBTQ Trends
Human right is one of the integral parts of the legal systems and framework of the social culture. The interpretation of the civic codes and key legislations maintains the social strata of the citizens of a place. It is an account of the recent trend that has emerged on a worldwide basis in the hospitality industry, signifying the role of LGBT communities and the impact of their activities specifically in this sector. The impacts of an emerging community on the hospitality industry is the inane number of opportunities which can be explored for their venture and empower the people of this community through several innovative initiatives. The hospitality sector is the all-inclusive state of the travel, tourism, and event management, specific and special type of relaxation and rejuvenation units like resorts, hotels and travel companies (Carr and Hayes 2017). It is an account of the different aspects of the LGBT community and its interrelation with the hospitality industry. The essay extensively discusses the recurrent social scenario and its influence over the hotelier and travel sector. This contemporary trend has recently been observed all over the world and the major constituents have been discussed in the essay regarding the coherent interaction between the LGBT population and the hospitality region.
According to American Psychological Association, it is cover term for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Sexual orientation is defined as a “pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions of men to women or women to men (heterosexual), of women to women or men to men (homosexual), or by men or women to both sexes (bisexual)” (Apa.org, 2017). The Transgender community can be described, as “a wide range of identities and experiences of people whose gender identity and/or expression differs from conventional expectations based on their assigned sex at birth”. In fact want to target to a large set of consumers who loves expensive travelling and the studies have revealed than United States of America itself contributes to a number more than a billion, as their individual purchasing power are worth of $700 billion dollars which belongs specifically from the group of LGBT population. This is in fact aided many people in confronting and opening up to their choice of orientation and sound acceptance from the major parts of the society. Unlike, a correlation the two subject matters that have been mentioned in the essay, undergoes a causative effect.
In regards to the recent activities like the official constitution of the LGBT rights in USA, along with LGBT-pride support walkathon all over the world, the topic of the third gender is significantly less forbidden and people are encouraged to own up to their orientation. There have been several historical events and revolts, which have initiated the urge to allow ‘homosexuality’ as a third gender recognition (David 2017).The first official accomplishment was the legalization of ‘transgender’ recognition in Sweden, under the dedicated association of “The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights”. In fact, according to the reports, Switzerland is one of the most supports to entitle ‘same sex- marriage’ and ‘same-sex relationship’ (Lucena, Jarvis and Weeden 2015).
Significance and Importance of LGBTQ Community
There has been contemporary trend on formulating a non-discriminatory rule, which will not judge an individual based on their sexuality and orientation status. The development in the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender perception has emerged from a battle of many years, which has recently acquired its deserving right. The Third Gender rights have been a long historical battle for the people of this orientation. The fact that the awareness and consciousness of a third gender is still in its nascent stage, which has integrated in the thought- processes of the social minds. It has been accessed that has always been a culture of social taboo, and there are still many places which that do not support the lesbian and gay rights practices and is countered as an offensive state of affair. In fact, the concept of identifying and acknowledging the due respect to a unique class of gender is a very contemporary approach to an age-old fight for the struggle and fights for their legitimate rights (Mason 2017). The figurative and extensive culture of the LGBT practices have been a controversial and sensational subject matter which essentially entails more number of revolt and the appeal for its legal recognition in the book and codes of conduct. 21st century has been quite turbulent and revolutionary in its opening decade. However, it is very unfortunate that the present century still has to fight for the rights of LGBT community who are like the average male or female leads in the community. The present century, nonetheless has shown a ray of hope in changing the perspective towards LGBT community and is still struggling to establish their rights equal to any other human beings (Sanders, 2017). While many countries of Europe and America and Asian continent have given them recognition, gender identity and marriage rights, the real obstacle lies in their acceptance in the main stream of society. Even today, they are not welcome in service sectors or in corporate business environment because of the disapproving mindset people bear against them. The accounts of leisure travel measures up to an approximate number of “roughly 9 million to 13.5 million LGBT consumers in the U.S.” which is successful phenomenon, as it will facilitate in a different sector all together creating a new consumer and identity be which can be resourcefully used by the social cultural equipments (Brinkerhoff 2015).
The Megatrends of the hospitality industry in regards to the specific type of a customer can be easily summarized from the various developments that have taken place among the premium hotel groups like Marriot and Hilton, the travel companies, the airline industry, the conference and banqueting sector in arranging the different kinds of pride events, same sex marriages etc. Primarily the drivers of this change are the engagement and interaction that is brought about by the new inertia and consciousness to respectfully consider the presence of people of trans-gender origin. The need to address and accept the people the third gender orientation is a societal phenomenon. Therefore, over the years there have been immense changes in the way of treating the people belonging to the LGBT community in the light of the hospitality industry. One more trend is the successful and thriving sector called the gay tourism, which entails many organizations, enterprise and prominent business agents taking efforts and initiatives highlighting their support towards the LGBT community group of travelers (Guaracino and Salvato 2016). The major hotel chains and groups, travel locations have established their non-discriminatory culture, which has been one if the key factor for their immense development in the hospitality field. There have been a number of observations and studies, which has revealed the data, which helps in formulating the travel status of a transgender comparatively more than the other gender groups. In fact the concern of moving places essentially emerged from the escape mechanism of the orientation process, but recently people engaged in business and work have flourished immensely which has been a witness in their extensive travel. It also includes the peer pride walks, Pride Week Festivals celebrated all over the world, conventions and conferences that has led to the development in the travel accounts of the transgender people. The fact and the numbers, which have been revealed in the 18th Annual LGBT Travel survey conducted in the year of 2013, prove that the people of LGBT orientation other than average people travelling fulfill more than 50% of the leisure consumption rate (Hughes 2016). The increasing day-to-day percentage also reveals their status and purchasing power. This has resourcefully being utilized by the hospitality sector as they are eventually capturing this market and binging into effect initiates and implementations like #Lovetravels and several other support and compassion for the mutual respect and recognition of the people (Rosenbloom 2016). On the other hand there have been successive improvements in order to support the contemporary culture is the increase in the number of same sex marriage herein the couples are choosing destination or major unique and extravagant experience which can be well established and capitalized easily in the market.
Drivers and Megatrends of LGBT community
One more reason could well be the establishment of the micro sites and travel groups associated with the people of the same orientation as well as integrating humanistic values where people of all orientation are in a homogenous state of a travel experience. Therefore, the studies and observations of the Global Report on LGBT Tourism have essentially focused on the experience, the opportunities and initiatives, which are prevalent in the hospitality sector on a global basis. It also highlights on the growing and emerging predictions about the kind of scope that are yet to develop and future propositions that are yet to develop in this sector (Montegary 2016). The implication of the LGBT gender segmentation have been positive on the business and the estimated worth of the travel of the consumer cost in the market. In fact, not only the hotel and resorts, the wedding venues, the festival organizers have been contributing immensely to the business of the hospitality industry (GmbH et al. 2017). The impacts of the declaration of the same sex marriage are considered as one of the impacts of positive instance, which has resulted in the increasing amount of the exotic location. Moreover, the arrangements, which are involved in their marriage ceremony and the after parties, engage for great investment, which has allowed the hospitality industry to make provisions and opportunities for the LGBT community (Vieira and Costa 2017). The effect can be brought about with a synthesis of all the events, which will integrate both the psychological and sociological aspect. The Cities like New York, Las Vegas is considered as one of the location which are one of the most visited cities that have had an impact over the hospitality industry as more people are involved within the arrangement visit to these locations. As the suggested reports reveal that the “repeating business with the LGBT friendly organization seek as the emerging framework of the new trend in the hospitality industry (Olson 2016). The LGBT Tourism and Hospitality Symposium is one of the significant events, which highlight on the gender denominated travel intentions and behaviors of the gay travelers all around the world. The limitations involve the offensive suggestions and remarks that often some sections of the society posses against them and the disapproving attitude, which are often posed by many traditional hospitality centre, as they do not support any accommodation facilities for people belonging form a different orientation.
In fact the campaigns released by the Marriot International along with the Community Marketing Inc which has led a study particularly on gay and lesbians who has been promoting the importance of this new age consumers who have been able to contribute to the statistics in an improving manner. Capital Pride, which takes place in Washington DC each year, is one the most important festival for the awareness and consciousness about the LGBT society and community (Montegary 2016). This is considered as a huge festival, which carries on for about a week that has had a huge affect the hospitality industry, which captures this, market and make preparations and special privileges. It is an annual congregation where mostly all the eminent personalities belonging form this community along with several other contributors, where they all assemble to promote and integrate the cultures and makes deliberations about the status of the LGBT community in general. The initiative of Equal Employment Policy by Hyatt group of hotels is considered as one of the path breaking initiative, which has cause wonders for the brand ( Oliveira 2016).The agenda of including and employing bisexual people was one of the most effective methods, which inspire other contemporaries in the business implement and adopt this phenomenon. In fact, they have also applied specific and the training facilities in order to implement the equal treatment of guest, which enhanced and improved their work culture. There have several instances in the past and records where the ill treatments of person of the third gender orientation have been a major cause of anarchy and an applied in justice against this community (Jarvis and WeedeN 2016).
Therefore many other travel websites and the agents involved in the hospitality sector has incorporated the special privileges for people belonging to this society as they can easily exhaust all the existing opportunities. In fact, the airline industry is also associated with in this phenomenon as they make travel easier, efficient and non-discriminatory for the people of the LGBT community. The aspect of the various organizations that are engaged with the several benefits attained to the LGBT society that has been a worldwide approach. The African, American, Native Asian and people from different culture and background about 20% of its population accounting to the trans woman, transgender and trans men who are eventually one of the most important criteria who decides the status and their welfare and safety (Small, Harris and Wilson 2017).
The research and investigations, which are being carried out by the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, reveals the efforts of the hotel industry, event market and the proposed plan of all the business sector in finally giving the due credit of the third gender. The terms like ‘DINKS’ (Dual income, no kids) have been associated with the gay and bisexual phenomenon which has encourages the categories of gay travel which has associated with the various things like the one’s which are applicable to the hospitality industry (Brinkerhoff 2015). The fact that with the due and recurrent acceptance from all over the community has it been a significant establishment of the various sectors which are associated with the event and hospitality industry.
The contemporary social perspective will facilitate the future improvisations of the LGBT impacts of the hospitality industry. I have been involved and have keen interest in the developing perspective of this industry in relation to their reception of the transgender people. The worldwide acceptance will be responsible for the future terms and conditions of the hospitality sector, which will reveal the prospects of the scenario in terms of the management of the decisions regarding gender equality. In In terms of the assessment regarding the trend and the challenges that have emerged recently in the hospitality sector entails opportunities for students like me, who have an eager interests for proposing the culture and gender awareness in a professional set up.
I believe that the current scenario and positive approach can help me in developing my skill and knowledge, which are based on gender management as an integral part of the tourism and event management sector. The influx of these opportunities will allow me to comprehend the marketing strategies and statistics in delivering the experiences to every individual, irrespective of their gender. As a part of the management, I would incorporate hiring and recruiting team to involve coherent and equal approach to the selection of the candidates. I would also ensure as the supervisor that the emotional value of the trans-woman or trans-men must be respected at any level of management so that the work place and the environment can be ensured with an integral and comprehensive result. In spite of the developing trends that have emerged due to the prejudices towards the third gender, often there are instances of reports of violence and acts of hostility against the transgender.
Therefore, my first priority will be to eliminate any kind of discriminatory culture and ensure the best form of safety and security, along with the mutual respect of their emotional intelligence. I shall incorporate equal freedom of rights and expression rather than restricting their right to enjoy a luxury spa experience or attending any specific cultural events. This review has stated the maximum positive impacts and relative influence on the event management and travel industry. In order to assess the extensive report, the inference and personal developments will also include the following current trends along with the challenges involved in the whole framework in a comprehensive manner. Therefore the inclusion of one specific demographic of a gender and their impacts on the positive development of hospitality industry has been one of the contemporary accounts that is a relevant topic which is the considered the futuristic view of the travel and event sector.
Conclusion
Therefore, it can be concluded with an overview of the LGBTQ community and its influence over the various facets of the hospitality sector. The importance of the several attributes of the transgender allocation in this sector is essential for promoting and preserving their value in the social infrastructure. The ideology behind the acceleration of the rights and importance of the associations to the LGBT community has been reinforced through these methods and functions that carry out the specific privileges and concerns of the transgender roles and empowerment in global context. The Third Gender rights have been a long historical battle for the people of this orientation (Communitymarketinginc.com 2017). The fact that the awareness and consciousness of a third gender is still in its nascent stage, which has integrated the thought- processes of the social minds. The impacts of this recurrent culture of promoting the transgender and the bisexual community are a developing approach. The gradual involvement of third gender people in all fields and aspects is very significant, as this shall allow the accessibility and perceptions to change and provide enough recognition to this orientation.
