Discussion
Queen Victoria Market of Melbourne city is going through the renewal process. The renovation of the entire market will consists of several changes. The renovation of the entire market will be done by the city of Melbourne. In order to conduct the renovation process in a proper way, the adaptation of the enterprise architecture is important. Enterprise Architecture is the well-defined process includes planning, design , implementation in order to implement the new strategy in the business organization. This can be applicable for the adaptation of the technological changes in the industries or organization or implementation of the new system[1]. The well-defined stages described in the enterprise architecture will help the planners and managers to keep the track of the renovation or the change. The paper will discuss the significance of the enterprise architecture in context of this renovation along with mentioning the stages of the enterprise architecture.
Melbourne city is going to renovate the heritage Queen Victoria market. In order to do this there will be certain changes in the arrangement of the market. However, this needs proper management planning which can be achieved through the enterprise architecture. The enterprise architecture is generally used in the proper implementation of the plans and strategies in the organization [5]. The planning of the city and the renovation of the city market can be defined as the implementation of the new plan which needs proper design and the implementation plan. Enterprise architecture can help to achieve this renovation along with meeting all the requirements.
There are some of the issues regarding the renovation of this market place [2]. The issues are needed to be identified at the beginning of the planning so that the adverse effect of the problems can be mitigated during the development process. The two identified issue in this case are- restoring the heritage of the market place during renovation, the cash flow or the budget estimation for the project.
The Queen Victoria marketplace is a heritage place. During the course of renovation it has to be ensured that the restoration of the heritage is done in a proper way [4]. The improvisation of the whole system has to be implemented without affecting the heritage structure of the place, which is challenging. In order to do this the expert team is needed to be indulged.
On the other hand cost or the estimated budget for the entire renovation business is an crucial factor. Initially the city of Melbourne has granted $250 million for the entire project [3]. However, the compilation of the entire thing is crucial. Moreover, the heritage site is needed to be renovated in a proper way which may increase the entire cost of the project.
Identification of the issues
The whole process can be done through the enterprise architecture planning. In enterprise architecture planning there are certain steps which will eventually gather the requirements for the compilation of the project and will deliver the right outcome at the end phase of the project [6]. The main advantage of enterprise architecture that it is manageable is an easy way. This will help to give the best solution for the implementation of the change or renovation using the latest technology. Enterprise architecture will guide the implementers of this project to identify the opportunities and the challenges and will motivate them to do the better through the strategic approach.
There are five basic architecture which are going to be followed in the enterprise architecture- Organizational architecture, business architecture, information architecture, application architecture and technological architecture.
The implementation of the renovation through enterprise architecture will help to simplify the whole problem solving situation. The application of enterprise architecture will help the planners to pay the equal attention in the modernization of the market along with maintaining the heritage of the Queen Victoria market [8]. Using the enterprise architecture the evaluation of the business situation regarding the market condition can be done. This will help the planners to find the right way for the renovation that will deliver the highest benefits for the traders. Some of the decisions like not allowing any supermarkets to be opened near the newly renovated market can be taken through the decision making attribute of the enterprise architecture.
However, there are some of the challenges and the problems regarding the enterprise architecture those can be faced by the planners during the implementation of this project through enterprise architecture body of knowledge. Some of these problems are regarding the communication plan and knowledge sharing between the team members of the project, clear decision making and clarity in the vision. Before starting the project, the project managers are needed to be clear about the objective of this renovation [7]. A clear objective will lead to the successful delivery of the outcome. On the other hand lack of communication between the team members and knowledge sharing during the development of the project will create problems and constraints for the progress of the project. Proper decision making is an important thing as it will help to take the right decisions regarding the renovation of the market and restoring the heritage of the market.
There are different steps in the enterprise architecture. This approach is useful for the organization for implementation of the new plans and the practices [9]. This approach is equally helpful in renovating a city market. Using the decision making process of the enterprise architecture, the decision regarding not building the supermarket near the renovated market along with maintaining the heritage sites in the market can be made. Not building the supermarket near the city market will enhance the business of the city market. Apart from that renovation of the heritage will preserve the heritage value of the market. Apart from that making the pedestrian friendly way through the market is good decision.
The planning can be done ta organizational level. This is also the application of the enterprise architecture. Enterprise architecture will help the planning at the organizational level to meet with the requirements of business levels [10]. The decisions taken in this course shows this synchronization. Apart from that the renovated market will support sustainable use of the energy along with maximization of the water saving and energy efficiency [11]. This can be achieved with the application of the technology in the business which can be done through the enterprise architecture.
The renovation regarding the construction of the roads and building can be done through the application development phase [12]. In this way, in every aspects for fulfillment of the requirements for the renovation, the application of enterprise architecture can be applied.
Conclusion
The discussion is regarding the application of the enterprise architecture at the planning and renovation of the Queen Victoria city market. The discussion points out the significance of application of the Enterprise Architecture for renovation of the market. It can be said that the requirements and the decisions taken for the renovation of the market needs proper planning and the alignment with the business and IT solutions those can be possible in the application of the enterprise architecture. Apart from that the application of this technique of managing the project will help to restore the heritage sites of the market. This application will help to make the right business decisions. It can be concluded from the above discussion that the enterprise architecture will be helpful for planning the renovation of the Queen Victoria city market.
