Tools and Steps to Create a Vision Board
A vision board of often regarded as a tool that is used in the clarification, maintenance and concentration of focus on a particular goal in life. It is usually designed to display relevant information in the form of pictorial representations and images. It is these images that display exactly what an individual wants to achieve in the nearby future. From the word vision, it is always a tool that provides direction towards the achievement of a certain goal. It acts a motivational factor towards the attaining of a certain goal (Heng, Meier, Tanskanen, Fraundorfer, Pollefeys, 2011).The vision board helps to bring a new image to the person. This helps one to configure dreams and other goals which one is anticipating in life.
There are certain factors that need to be considered in the design of vision board; these aspects are outlined below;
Should be in a position to identify ones vision clearly
Should be in a position to reinforce the person’s daily affirmations
Finally, an individual must be in a position to put all his/her attention on the intentions presented by the vision board.
Certain tools are mandatory in the design of a vision board, these tools are;
A pair of scissors, some pieces of used magazine, paints, some tapes and pins, a board (Heng et al, 2011).
The images below in the vision board represent my personal aspirations, attributes, life experience and also my future goals.
Step 1-Themes that portray themselves in my vision board
There are certain themes that are evident in my vision board. These themes are outlined below;
Success
Every person dreams and hopes of becoming successful in their life, not everyone becomes successful though (Adams & Rau, 2011).It is the steps and actions that we take in our daily life that determines where we will be in the future. As indicated in my vision board, I aspire to be successful in life and in order to turn my dreams into reality then I would do the following things;
Noting down all my goals. When a dream or a goal is written down on paper then it becomes a motivational factor. It would be reminding me every day of what I have to become and therefore, this would make me work towards achieving it (Zhang, Xian, Zhao, Zhang, 2015).
Identifying what I love doing and my passion. It is always important that one identifies what they love doing so that they can focus on that. It is always a great thing to do what one enjoys doing. As indicated in my vision board, I would like to become a doctor sometime in future. I always love helping people, I am the kind of person who would not sit by and watch another individual suffer. Through becoming a doctor, then I will have achieved the greatest achievement of my career (Kendall, Salvapantula, Stol, 2014).
Themes that Embrace Personal Aspirations
We all know that education is the key to success. I would love to get educated and become dependable later in the future so as to secure my success (Zhang, et al, 2015).
Family
Family is considered as the smallest unit in the society. It is very important to have a family, a wife of your own, kids. It is just a blessing.
Well, the theme of family is very evident in my vision board. It is always important to have people around who love and care for you so deeply. It brings about a sense of belonging and also security (Kendall et al, 2014).Family helps me attaining and persuing my career. Staying with my family encourages me especially my mum which keeps on telling me not to give up in my life. This has helped me a lot and therefore am in position to realize my goals in appropriate manner.
Motivation
It is the motivation that inspires us and makes us to dream more. The theme of motivation is so evident in my vision board.
Through the right type of motivation, then one can become anything they wish to become in life. The vision board has well images which whenever I see them I get encouraged and makes me to go for my desires.
Step 2-Main goals I wish to achieve from now and in the future
I have always had dreams in my life. I have been thinking of becoming a doctor from the day I was 10. This activity has actually inspired me and made me dream even bigger. Through this activity then I will undertake the following things to make sure that my dreams turn into a reality;
Always dream, it is always good to dream. Dream about what I want to become in the future, I will not let anyone or anything destruct me from what I am planning to achieve (Benartzi & Thaler, 2013).
I will always do what makes me happy. Doing what makes one happy is the key of unlocking all the potential that one has, I have always wanted to help people, I will continue doing so by any means possible I can. A doctor is a person who is committed to serve and help the people regardless of their background or ethnicity. I will always help people in the best way I can.
Taking good care of myself. Caring for my body is that crucial activity which I admire. I will be doing all what it takes to ensure my health is fit. I will be participating in sports and other exercises in order to build my body. My health is very important. In as much as I will be helping people, I should also not forget about myself. Self care and love is very important. I will therefore ensure that I treat myself well and get the best medical attention I can so that I can stay healthy (Miao & Shen, 2012).
Setting Goals for Personal Development and Success
Having some fun time with friends and family is very healthy. I will be sparing some of my time so that I can spend it with the people I love. This will strengthen our bond and makes us one. I will also spend time in shopping and visiting places such as national parks, visiting hotels and also going outside my country. This will make me familiarize with different things in my life.
Step 3-Comment on the activity of the vision board
I was happy after creating the vision board. I had first thought that it would be a very complicated activity but as I was doing it, I realized that it was all fun. As a matter of fact, when I completed my vision board, I was so surprised. There are some things that I really want and value but I did not even know about them. Seeing them appear on my vision board once it was complete was actually an eye opener on some of the things that I really want in my life (Yang, Park, Vela, Golparvar, 2015).
There are some things that I was not doing right, but with this activity in play, then I am determined to make them right (Miao & Shen, 2012).
Conclusion
This activity has made me have a different perspective about my life. As the name suggest, a vision board. It has made me have a different look at life and all what it entails (Montague, 2016). This activity has really inspired me. It has made me look back at my past and also my future.
