A critical self-analysis and reflection of your learning
During the week 1, I have gained my knowledge regarding key concepts, theories, practices and their interrelationships of designing the process. This week is beneficial for needs analysis for design and improvements in social, service, commercial and digital contexts. It has also increased the experience of incubating solutions for innovative ideas for social, service, commercial and digital contexts (Lewis, 2015). It has also enhanced my comprehension about the entrepreneurship. In this way, it is evaluated that entrepreneurship is the procedure by which a person pursue opportunity instead of resources that the company currently control (Smith, 2015).I have also learned that innovation is related to generating a culture in which an individual embrace risk, move promptly to back good ideas and learn from the mistakes. This week has also improved my knowledge about the process of innovation. This week has also increased my knowledge about the several aspects of innovation such as incremental, platform, architecture and discontinuous. It is also identified the dimension of innovation space such as product, process, positions, and paradigm (Silverman, 2016). This learning would be applied by me to become a good entrepreneur.
This week is effective for me to understand design thinking fits with more traditional forms of decision-making. It is also evaluated that there are different approaches to using innovation in practices. This week was valuable for understanding the mindset and core value of a designer (As has been detailed in week 2 blog, attached under appendix 1). In this way, it is pointed that this core value is open-mindedness, visual worker, user-centered, subjectivity, and focus on current reality not just future, accepting of other views, and accepting of other views (Ary, Jacobs, Irvine, & Walker, 2018).Moreover, I have addressed that poster is an experiential learning practice that stimulates the interest and curiosity, motivates integration and exploration of aspects and facilitates student with a novel manner to demonstrate the knowledge. This week has also enhanced my knowledge regarding design thinking such as ideation, immersion, analysis and synthesis, and prototyping. This week was effective for understanding how to make a poster related to design thinking.
This week was effective for me to understand the design theory. This theory is learning theory, divergent and convergent thinking, the logic of reasoning, action research, and philosophical worldwide (Denzin, 2017). This week was also beneficial for me to comprehend the further appropriate theories such as ideation, team working theories, and decision making theories. This would be beneficial for making designing of thinking in an appropriate way (As has been detailed in week 3 blog, attached under appendix 2). I have increased my knowledge about different core values and mindset for designer 1 such as attentiveness, value observation, patience, failure are learning opportunities, and comfortable with chaos. This would be beneficial for developing mindset (Creswell, & Clark, 2017).This week has also generated my understanding about how to write a blog and blogging. It was significant for me to understand how the US army trains their students and how thinking capacity could be developed. Thus, it would be beneficial for improving the reflective skills by using the new designing tools.
Week 1: Design What?
During this week 4, I have created my understanding of the difference between problem-solving and problem finding. This week is also effective for me to develop the knowledge regarding the role of Design Thinking in problem finding. During the workshop, I have realized the different principles of designing thinking such as prototyping, observation, visualization, experimentation, and active learning, human-centered and empathetic and beginner’s mindset. This week has increased my knowledge about the design procedure (As has been detailed in week 4 blog, attached under appendix 3). It was also effective for understanding the problem findings. In this way, I have developed knowledge that design thinking is effective as compared with the problem-solving methodology. It is an approach that can address the problems. This week is significant for understanding the visualization (Bernard, 2017). In this way, I have learned that visualization use imagery to picture and bringing them to life. It is also pointed out that it transforms information into an image. I have also learned that there are two brain hemispheres such as right brain holds visual holistic thinking and left brain keeps deductive and sequential reasoning.
DT is defined as the personas as customers tend to comprehend the ‘real people’, who they are, their needs, characteristics, thoughts and feelings and likings and dislikes (Bryman, 2016). Furthermore, this week has increased my knowledge that after applying design it thinking how to keep these solutions for problems. Thus, design it thinking skill would be beneficial for making an effective poster in the future.
In this week, I have in increased my knowledge regarding journey mapping. During this module, I have pointed brainstorming as a designing technique. This week has enhanced my experience about the brainstorming rules such as do not judge but say yes, get radical, go for quantity and piggy back (As has been detailed in week 5 blog, attached under appendix 4). I have also improved my comprehension that journey mapping is a graphical demonstration of customer experience as they interact with the product/service provider. This week was also helpful for me to understand the need analysis in design thinking. It has also generated my knowledge about the empathy mapping. It aids to comprehend the mind mapping (Sekaran, & Bougie, 2016).
This week was effective for me to understand and perform different designing techniques such as value chain analysis and mind mapping. It also aids me to enhance the design procedure. It is pointed that value chain enables the assessment of the company with regards to a set of practices (Robson, & McCartan2016).This week is significant for me to assess the competencies and resources that aid to get the sustainable benefits. Furthermore, I have assessed that each activity delivers the added value as observed by the customers. It is observed that the value chain helps to address the activities that have particular strength and weaknesses (Bryman, & Bell2015). I have also learned that value chain aids to address the ways for enhancing value and declining the costs in value practices. This week was beneficial for me to comprehend the deckers outdoor. I have increased my knowledge that value aids to build the set of inter-organization relations and association and ultimately helps for creating the demand of the products and services. During this week, I have enhanced my understanding about the making and buying decision (As has been detailed in week 6 blog, attached under appendix 5). In this way, I have learned that make and buy decision aids to understand which activities to perform in-house and which to outsource. I have developed my knowledge about the approaches of the value chain. In this way, it is observed that approaches of the value chain are drawn the value chain for the business, assess the competitive environment, assess the core strategic capabilities, and assess the bargaining power and influence of each player (Campbell, & Stanley, 2015). I have also learned that how to create a value chain for a selected company such as Woolworths, and Shell. This week has developed my understanding about two different aspects such as academic investigation is more theory-driven approach along with design led investigation is related to practical results (Babbie, 2015). This week has generated my learning that there are different approaches to research such as qualitative and quantitative research. Thus, I can be a good researcher in the future.
Week 2: Design Process
In this module, I gained my awareness of different approaches to research, research types, data sources, and ethics. I also gained my understanding with respect to qualitative vs quantitative approaches and primary vs secondary. I also enhanced my understanding in the context current research matter. There are certain sources that could be effective for collecting feasible information in the context of the current research matter named questionnaire survey, interviews, observations, focus groups, documents, videos, websites, statistics, and reports (Lindlof, & Taylor, 2017). I increased my knowledge about two kinds of interview method like a semi-structured interview and unstructured interview as it could be imperative in the accomplishment of the desired goal in the least time. In this module, I observed that panel discussion, Delphi method, and observation method is also technique of primary data collection methods. There are creation sources of secondary data collection like organizational records, diary, books and journals, case files, government publications, and official statistics, websites pages and internet, television, films, newspaper and the internet, and pictorial representation (Collett, 2015). Further, I understood the ethics could lead an individual to conduct appropriate behavior at the working place. It would be effective in making a positive relationship with others. I also learned about planning for ethical research. In this, it is observed that there are many steps of research like Identification of topic/area to be researched, develop research design, fieldwork, prepare data, analyse data, draw conclusions, and prepare report/presentation of research, and recommendations and solutions for the problem (Rosen, Mangasarian, & Ritter, 2014). I understood that an individual need to understand many factors that could create an ethical dilemma in the working place (As has been detailed in week 7 blog, attached under appendix 6). Furthermore, I also observed that the organization could ethical norms to perform their research and obtain a reliable outcome. My tutors explained us about the assumption testing that could be a major concern for the accomplishment of any task.
Under this module, I increased my understanding about different strategies that could be effective in the innovation launching. I enhanced my existing knowledge in the context of the launch readiness in which two components could be imperative for making a reliable decision such as the purpose of planning, and information of launch readiness. Herein, I gathered information from the feedback on serotype and prototype (As has been detailed in week 8 blog, attached under appendix 7). Feedback was imperative to eliminate the problems in a systematic way. In addition, I observed that launch planning could be imperative to determine many components like a financial requirement, goods, and services goal, hypothesis development, and tolls. It could be imperative in making a reliable decision in the context of the desired goal.
Week 3: Design Theory
In module 9, I gained my understanding of learning launch and real launch as it could be imperative in the accomplishment of the desired goal of the firm. I enhanced my understanding of the context of approaches that could be imperative in launching innovation. Further, I realized that planning of launching could support the organization in terms of increasing the profitability in the future. In addition, I also gained my understanding in the context of many assumptions that could be imperative in assumption testing (As has been detailed in week 9 blog, attached under appendix 8). I also observed that how appropriate measurement techniques could be imperative in getting a reliable and valid outcome. I increased my learning about financial capital requirements as it could also a major impact on the obtained result. Apart from this, I also gained my understanding in the context of the dissertation as well as a reflection that could also be imperative in getting positive responses.
Week 10, 11& 12Design Presentations & Co-Creation 1,Design Presentations & Co-Creation 2 and Design the Designer (i.e. Design Yourself)
Personal development, as well as the development of your knowledge of Design thinking topics
In module 10, 11, 12, I gained my understanding of the self-assessment as it could be imperative in the accomplishment of the organizational goal.
SWOT analysis is an imperative tool of self-analysis as it is used to examine the personality of an individual in a reliable manner (Marshall, & Rossman, 2014). In this, there is a creation factor that could be considered by the individual like strengths, weakness, opportunity, and threat. Therefore, I selected this technique to evaluate, personality systematically. In this, I was also able to find many skills as it is associated with my threat as well as weakness (As has been detailed in week 10 blog, attached under appendix 9). Self-analysis technique is imperative in examining the negative and positive characteristics of individuals (Quinlan, Babin, Carr, & Griffin, 2019). Further, I also observed that weaknesses and strengths of an individual could be involved in internal components while threats and opportunities could consider in the outside factors. Moreover, the following table demonstrates the SWOT analysis of mine:
Strengths · Able to the understood new concept · I am a very active listener |
Weaknesses · Communication skills · Lack of patience · Lack of confidence |
Opportunities · Active listening skills enable to get higher competitive benefits |
Threats · I have a lack of patience that develops major issue for resolving the problems in limited time and cost. |
An effective action plan can be beneficial for improving my confidence and patience level in the targeted time period (Krueger, 2014). I have targeted six months of the time period in order to enhance my weakness in a significant manner (As has been detailed in week 11 blog, attached under appendix 10). The action plan is illustrated in the table that could be used for enhancing my skill of patient and communication level.
