Defining Leadership Through Readings and Observations
Discuss About The Ethical Integrity Leadership Organizational.
The pillars of an effective leadership are ideas either original or borrowed, nevertheless this cannot happen until these ideas are conveyed verbally. That should be in manner that engage one sufficiently to be able to act like the leader the society requires. In a broader perspective, a leader serves as the director and the individual to convey these actions. He or she is the individual in the team that has the mixture of leadership skills and personality character that inspires others to have the urge to follow direction.

- Secondly, this reflective essay will explore what I have studied in this discipline that will benefit me and profession as a leader and what additional characteristics of leadership I am supposed to equip with myself.
- Thirdly, the essay will illustrate how class readings in class, discussion, film reviews and observations have helped me to comprehend and apply leadership concepts to my life and work experiences.
- Finally, I will critically give illustration on where I will access leadership development opportunities in the future and the best way to enhance my leadership services throughout life, especially at work.
This section discusses about my definition of leadership throughout the nine weeks of study. In week one I learnt from Munroe (2014) that leadership refers to the process of influencing other people. This implies it is the ability a leaders has to establish a relationship with the people led and convince them towards achieving particular objective. Such a process is triggered by motivation, passion and vision towards a particular objective. Later in week 2-3, I learnt from Parris, Denise, and Jon (2013) that the key theories of leadership were trait theories, Contingency theory, Behavioral Theories, Power and Influence Theories and Daft (2014) argues that effective leaders possess virtues and lead with integrity. In week 4-6, I learnt that leaders can either be born or natured. This statement is argued from both perspectives where experts purport that a person can become a leader as a result of the complicated products of genetic and environmental factors whereas other text argue a person is able to be born a leader, for example, Churchill and Thatcher, I also observed from Dion (2017) that effective, respected and trusted leaders inhibit a code of ethics that other employees follow like self-control, honesty and fidelity. Finally in week 7-9, I have learnt from Schein (2010) that the leader in charge of an organization either creates a good or bad organizational culture for instance appreciation and laying off respectively. I also learnt from Hofstede`s (2011) five dimensions of national culture that there is major difference between east versus west leadership styles like Power Distance: Uncertainty Avoidance: Individualism vs. Collectivism Masculinity vs. Femininity; Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation. In sum, the definition for leadership does not have a particular meaning, but depends on the approach in different writers. This only explores different valuable on what leadership entail and not categorized as either wrong or right. Therefore is important to explore several meaning.
Personal Reflections on Leadership
This reflective essay, in the third paragraph explores what I have learnt during this subject that will be beneficial to myself and my future work as a leader and what additional aspects of leadership, I need to develop. First, I learnt from Thoms (2008) that I have honesty and integrity. These are the two main values to build a good organizational culture. Otherwise, creating honesty and integrity the result is bound to be long term. Additionally, instilling such a culture must begin from the top, where everyone wants to watch me as a leader and follow suit. Honesty goes hand in hand with trustworthy thus as a good leader I should be telling the truth and promote ethical standards. Other below me will look up to me and should not have any doubts on the information that I relay. I must give in to mistake and win the trust of others. Next, I have learnt from Eriksen (2009) that it is of benefit for myself and my future work that I have an outstanding self-awareness. Which means I must realize the areas that I am weak and strong. Every human being make a mistake at some point in life leading to unexpected outcome. Thus, it is appropriate that I know myself adequately and take in the challenges as I seek for help. Such an action show humility and ability to humanize a leader. Unless I insist on being perfect as a leader, I am likely to portray arrogance and intimidating nature to other people. To benefit in future, I must also welcome ideas from other people. A range of ideas provide different approaches to troubles and challenge conventional thinking. They are able to lead to positive debates, but also be careful when leading a conversation and most importantly able to accommodate every character. The third benefit I have learnt from Bell and Habel (2009) that is beneficial to me and the future that I have a vision. I should be able to have a wider picture on what exactly I am aiming to achieve. Therefore, I must inhibit sufficient knowledge concerning an issue, say organizational goal. This gives me a stable network and continuously identify the current trends in the life cycle. I need to be best in prioritizing the likely activities in future and get prepared. As a strong leader, still in having a vision, I must be aware of my market and be well conversant with organizational values. Of course they thrive to enhance the major competencies of the organization. Lastly, I have learnt from Barett (2008) that is beneficial to me and future is to have good communication skills. I do not really have to be a great orator to imply a great leader. What matter to me is ability to inspire and persuade other people. I must be in able to address my different audience and converse in a manner that convinces. In addition, I will develop my leadership services of showing up attention to foster confidence and grow trust. Wherever I am, whether on call or physically available, need to give all my attention. Summarily, I have learnt a lot of ideas concerning leadership, significant to me now and even in future. I have learnt to have good communication skills, have a vision, be honest and full of integrity and finally give attention in conversations.
Future Opportunities for Leadership Development
Basically, this paragraph illustrates how class readings, class activities, discussion, films and observations have helped me to understand and apply leadership concepts to my life and work experiences. First, by participating in class activity of Buble et al., (2014), I learnt to motivate enabling me to apply the new knowledge in giving morale during work. Being an authoritative leader, I am able to establish a positive task force in busy atmosphere. This suggests I can convey and encourage workers to believe in themselves. After all, if I have authoritative techniques of ruling then it means I will improve the attitude of more people to achieve, especially, in introducing a new idea. Consequently, I have learnt to adapt change from Ganz (2010) by applying the knowledge about leadership. As a leader, I have to adjust to changes that occur and be associated with the related leadership style. A key illustrations are, when reducing the size of operation and altering ownership. In this case I am the determinant in putting people together, responding to any disagreements and offering free atmosphere. In such incidents, I am the associated leader and I am charged with the duty to create a common purpose and restore order in a hostile environment. Secondly, by viewing the video entitled (Leadership Skills for the New Workforce, 2017) I learnt developing work force enabling me to apply the new knowledge resulting in identifying and developing individual areas of professional strength. A leader with a guiding or teaching approach is very important to workforce and team building. I should offer positive criticism, gives advice and coaches by example. Recruiting leaders with mentoring styles enables the company to build young talents and get benefits of success when venturing into new technologies and operating methodologies. Besides I have learnt about Harmonization enabling me to apply the new knowledge of making goals relevant. It means I must provide a solution between various teams. Yarmohammadian (2011) makes me learn good leaders have the ability to create harmony amongst the workers and the stakeholders or the managers of the business or firm. Also, by reading the article entitled `The Courage Solution` and participating in the class discussion I have learnt about confidence resulting in finishing a job more efficiently. Confidence- boosting factor is an essential contributor of advantages of good leadership. Good leaders in the job environment or organization can instill confidence and morale in the organizational or company employees. In addition, great leaders avail themselves closer to the workers at their team task in case they require their guidance or answers to some questions. This knowledge or information that good leaders are ever at the service of the employees boost their confidence even in the absence of proper leadership. To conclude, class readings, discussions, films reviews and observation have helped me to apply leadership concept to my life and workplace.
Importance of Discipline in Leadership
In this paragraph, this reflective leadership essay critically discusses where I will access leadership development opportunities in the future and how I intend to continuously improve my leadership services throughout my working life. The first place in order to develop my leadership services of being a servant I will access leadership training from Leadership Excess. The program educates learners to think strategically and equip leadership skills applicable at work. For member who join, we have to go past technical, quantitative education and outside class experience. In the boardroom, on the shop floor or in the laboratory, this experience goes beyond description to make the lessons real and the growth permanent as Sendjaya et al., (2008) explores. It is also in this program that I can learn to adjust and do well in changing trends in an organizations. In a nut shell, the training is not a common one that combines my academic knowledge and other methods for the best leadership, combined with negotiation, communication among other concerns. It thus an opportunity on demand that which can promote minor focused organizational environment to big organization, geographical and cultural leadership challenges. Secondly, in order to develop my leadership services of Wright and Moynihan (2012), I will access leadership development from Young Leaders Access Program. This program is made up of different modules, modern, global and local change. At the end of training I can initiate a new action plan to solve challenges in the community. Finally, I learnt from Colquitt et al., (2011) that I need to remain disciplined in order to improve my leadership. This is a must case so as to be effective, and also for me to challenge other people to be disciplined too. The kind of perception people will have on me depends on the levels of discipline that I keep up. Portraying discipline means meeting time duration for work and keeping up time. Otherwise if I am not well planned, my work may be left out but, attempt a lighter one. Which means I try and implement good character while at home and, for example waking up in time and engaging in everyday exercise and then decide on most appropriate decision. Still on improving my leadership skills, I learn from Gupton (2009) that I must learn to follow. As true leaders I am not supposed to find any hinge in following instructions when there in deed it is important. I should not feel scared of my leadership capabilities whenever I face confrontation. I therefore must be sensitive of the environment and commend where necessary. Though valuing a team requires double efforts, they are likely to trust more in my leadership. In conclusion I acknowledge I can get trained in a leadership programs to access leadership skills and also, in order to improve, it I need to be disciplined and learn to follow from other.
