Keith Crider Student Answer/Post: The creation of a learning culture within an organization doesn’t just happen, it takes planning, dedication from leadership and intentionality. When the learning culture is developed and has taken hold there are many benefits that will be realized by the organization such as more outside the box thinking to find solutions, increased productivity, increased job satisfaction, and decreased employee turnover (Blackwood, 2014). A learning organization pulls all members together, sharing the same organizational goals and motivations which result in increased efficiency, reduction in conflicts and greater employee loyalty (Blackwood, 2014). Teamwork is increased, as is knowledge sharing which leads to the employees bettering themselves and the organization. The employees feel more engaged, not only with the work, but also with the organization because they feel as though they are valued as individuals and are truly part of the team. Employees are developed into more effective leaders by this continual learning culture, they are given opportunities to learn from the leadership in place that created this learning culture. All of these opportunities improve the individual and organization and can lead to nothing to but success for all involved.

Stacey Sinclair Student Answer/Post: The concept of creating a learning organization by leadership was created by Peter Senge, a renowned management thought leader, and faculty at MIT Sloane School of Management and author of The Fifth Discipline. Senge believed that “people are agents, able to act upon the structures and systems of which they are a part” and this belief is what led him to develop the five disciplines which he believes is essential to any learning organization. There are many benefits to creating a learning organization within a company. According this week’s reading creating that kind of environment will help with increased profit, increased productivity, decreased employee turnover, efficiency gains and many other benefits. This type of environment will “enables employees to challenge the status quo, think critically, and ensures that the team doesn’t become stuck in “this is the way it has always been done here” thinking, and instead, creates the capacity and adaptability needed for change”. Employees should be encouraged to think and develop not only their personal but their organizational goals which will enable them to challenge and change their way of thinking. “Shared Vision: Building a shared vision and sense of collective commitment as to where we want to go as an organization and how to achieve that goal” is another benefit of having a learning organization. Management should encourage team building that help employees to brainstorm from each other and to think critically which will create the capacity and adaptability needed for change within an organization.
