Emma Bovary is a young woman who married Charles Bovary in order to escape her father’s farm. She is bored with her life and has an affair with a man named Rodolphe. She also has an affair with a man named Leon. Emma becomes pregnant and has a child, but the child dies. Emma is depressed and takes poison, but does not die. She is put in a mental hospital, where she dies.
