The ethical decision model is referred to the tools which can be used by the professionals in order to help in developing the various abilities for thinking through the ethical dilemmas faced in any situation for arriving at the ethical decision making processes. Furthermore, the ethical decision model (EDM) will be applied to the given case study in relation with the Professional Issues in computing for the purpose of determination of which, what and how the moral decisions can be taken by the stakeholders in order to avoid any sort of conflicts.
The dilemma in coming to a conclusion while taking the ultimate decision in the proper way with the consideration of the fact that no apparent harm is caused or on unjustified situation has been taken place is considered to be one of the complex issues during the time of the working in an organization (Gao, Liu & Yin, 2021). However, it has been always in the most suggestive lists that there is no other way to achieve the successes other than being or choosing for the most of the ethical options, it is also considered that the option for being ethical is not always acknowledged to be an easy option when one has the pressure from the authority who are unethical in themselves and in their practices with a hope to reach to the top by using unethical as well as corrupted options. The common sense of the people will be definitely suggesting that one of the best ways to deal with that of the complex issue is to just have the potential to simplify it in assessing the issues of conflicts related to the decision making (Freberg, 2020).
Application of the ethical decision model in the case study of professional issues in computing with multiple stakeholders
The ethical decision models is considered to be a general-purpose model of the purpose of analysing the situations which are acknowledged as more of the complex situations for the revealing of the optimal solutions that one might can indicate as the ethical as well as defended as such. The ethical decision making model has got three stages in it as per the model such as analysis, prioritisation as well as decisions.
The analysis part of the ethical decision models is helpful in getting all the facts as well as categorising the decisions into the extrinsic the factors like the legal, professional, persona, social as well as employment and the intrinsic which is considered to be the individual and the personal attributes. The prioritisation of the ethical decision models while making the decisions in the work place in concerning with the decisions of the workplace (Shamsudheen & Rosly, 2020). The prioritisation of the ethical decision models is regarding the ranking of the concerned elements for the purpose of the order of the importance by the means of the table of the priority. The decision making of the concerned issues of the work place for being ethical is set on the priority of the issue. The decision of the ethical decision models is concerned with the rationally weighing up the importance of the relative criteria of the concerned of the elements (Knight, 2019).
In addition to this, the ethical decision models are considered to be as something where no two people who are involved in the decision making process are on the same factors addressing the complex situations. The perception of the people involved in the decision making process get filtered through all the lenses from their personal experiences as well as the learning in the intrinsic manner (Wang et al., 2020). The precise nature in relation with the ethical decision making process is regarded to be involving the cognitive centres of the individuals which is ought to be at the side of creating the differences for every person as well as can get different for the same person as well in accordance with the difference in the occasions of the nature of the problem solving in relation with the ethical dilemmas (Balaji et al., 2020).
The application of the ethical decision making models in a definite process is helpful in removing the subjectivity from that of the situation as well as it also helps in giving the persons involved in the ethical decision making processes the objectives, the definite approach which is process-based in order to get the solution of the ethical dilemmas (Katafiasz et al., 2020).
In the analysis step of the ethical decision making model, there are certain questions in relation to the case study of the professional issues in computing with the multiple stakeholders in the Green street + associates which is a mid-sized advertising agency which is considered to be providing the various types of the technical consultancies on the issues related to the development of any kinds of state-of-the-art marketing database which is known provisionally as The Marketing Database. In the analysis of the case study of Green street + associates, the first question which is asked is reacted to the relevant facts of the case and it also demands to be answered regarding that of the information that people are able to be gathering before the conclusion of making any kinds of the decision, and also in relation with the information related to the different kinds of the stakeholders (Wagner, 2020). In case study of Green Street + associates, the matter of the fact is that advertising agency is involved with the creation of the promotional campaigns such as the winning of a car, a boat, as well as winning for the holiday etc. for the clients who happen to be a part of using the competitions. In addition with this purpose in order to help the clients though, the advertising agency of Green Street + associates have the tendency of obtaining the various kinds of demographic information in relation with that of the clients is considered to be a potential income stream for the advertising agency of Green street itself (Dunn & Sainty, 2019). The associates as well as the number of stakeholders are considered to be getting paid by the clients in order to get their company run the several types of competitions, however, the advertising agency of Green Street + associates also obtain a database of the names of the clients as a by-product (Sulaiman et al., 2021). Though, the demographic information is considered not to have any kinds of value. This is all the information which is known from the case study in relation to the case study of the advertising agency of Green Street + associates. In addition to this, the stakeholders of the advertising agency of Green Street + associates are known to be Barton MacLane, the senior partner as well as the co-founder of Green street, and Ward Bond, the 32 year old executive of the Green street who is considered to be remained in the charge of the project (Ohreen, 2021).
Mary Astor, faced with the ethical dilemma of the decision making processes, is a self-employed IT Consultant who was acknowledged to be hired by the Green street + Associates in order to function as the one who will be providing the technical consultancies on the development of a state-of-the-art marketing database (Roubanis, 2019). The ethical dilemma in the decision making process that she is faced with is related to the project of the preparation of the Marketing Database which she is considered to be making which is to be an integrated demographic database with a web front-end that gathers information such as the names, addresses, age of the persons, their occupation, marital status of the persons, hobbies of the persons, annual income of the individuals etc. are to be extracted from the people who consider of entering the online competitions with that of the incentives of winning a holiday destination for two people in Hawaii (Sivaraman, 2021).
However, ethical decision making choices that Mary Astor, the new self-employed IT Consultant in the company, when she found out that the company of the advertising agency of Green Street + associates obtains or accumulates the demographics of the clients which they sell to the o market products as well as the services (Dawson & Napper, 2020). The Marketing Database is therefore considered to be one of the significant ways for the purpose of leveraging the web technology for the enhancement of their existing database of around seven lakhs and fifty thousand people (Levitt, Crawford & Pamphile, 2022). However, Mary Astor, the new self-employed IT Consultant in the company had been made to sign a legally binding Non-Disclosure Agreement as per which she has been considered in agreeing the fact that stated not to disclose any information regarding the Marketing Database or any kinds of the other information related to the company which is considered to be belonging to the Green street + associates to a third party without Green street’s written permission or nay kinds of consents (Solis, 2019).
After getting into the project for several months, Mary Astor found out that the company of the advertising agency of Green Street + associates used the illegal manners by which they obtain the information regarding the clients in an unfair manner without any kinds of the consents in relation with this from the side of the clients. This illegal evidence had been found out at the moment when she was asked not to make any kinds of audio recording made, and only hand-written notes were allowed in this regard (Sousa, Gonçalves-Lopes & Abreu, 2021). She had been counter questioned from the side of the project manager and the executive when Mary Astor enquired regarding the informed consent of the clients because it had occurred to her that people or the clients had resorted to the opinion that they believed that they had been simply entering to a fun contest for the purpose to win a new iPad or a weekend for two people at any kinds of the resort hotel. She had been questioned like; Barton had commented that ‘if we have to have it, we can bury it in the legal blurb’. Ward had said, ‘if we tell them, they may not enter –we want them to enter!’. And questions like ‘better? … Better for who?’ by Barton when Mary Astor had stated that it would have been better if the company had state clearly from before that with entering the contest, the people or the clients had been subjected to share the information of their personal demography which can get or might be subsequently be on the verge of getting used to contact the people regarding the deals and the offers (Hauck & Ling, 2021). She has said that this process of sharing the proper information with that of the clients in order to get their consent had been the standard way of informing the people and the client without putting the used practice in the bad kinds of light in the competitive market.
The presence of the several kinds of the stakeholders like that of the Barton MacLane, the senior partner as well as the co-founder of Green street, and Ward Bond, the 32 year old executive of the Green street, it was tough for a self-employed IT Consultant like Mary Astor to fight with the authority in order to be ethically as well as morally correct as she had also been put into the position as well as the part of the systems where she had the pressure from the upper portion of the company to function as they wanted her to function (Moore, 2019). In addition to this, she had also been subjected to sign for the Non-Disclosure Agreement as per which she has been considered in agreeing the fact that stated not to disclose any information regarding the Marketing Database or any kinds of the other information related to the company. As per the Ethical decision model (EDM), it occurred to her that maintaining the target for the company to be at the top three such brokers in the country within five years is the significant to her at that point of time (Burkholder, Burkholder & Gavin, 2020). Furthermore, from the case study, it had been learned that Mary Astor could not be ethically as well as morally clear and correct for the completion of the purpose of the company.
