Communication
Discuss about the Face To Face Communication And Interaction.
Two or more person change their own ideas by talking, sharing or engaging in any way to each other is called interaction. Face to Face and mediate interaction are two types of interactions, which can be used by people (Barker, 2016). When two or more person interacts with each other and sees each other physically, it is called Face to face interaction. It is also a kind of two–way oral communication. Through face to face, people can talk to each other whenever they get chance. Face to Face interactions are widely used for the formal and informal communication. Face to Face communication is an easy way to communicate or for the quick response of the exchange idea. It makes relationship more stronger and shows the value of a person. In face to face communication, there is no medium used to interact. Thus, the risk of the barrier is less as compared to the other medium. Everyone can easily interact with each other freely and openly, no one has to keep up any formalities (Duncan and Fiske, 2015). But in the modern age, technology moderate everything and make life easy. It changes the medium of communication and makes another method of interaction. When two or more person interact each other at the different time and different place through various methods of technologies is called Mediated interaction (IGI Global, 2018). In this essay, firstly I will share my experience after literature point of view is share and then analyse the author and my experience by comparing.
Face to face communication is a direct method to interact person to person. According to me face to face communication is better then mediate interaction. I observed that in face to face communication people can easily interact and give a quick response to their conversation without using any media. Face to face communication is widely use in my life like conversation with friends, parents and with the teachers. When I want to make new relations, face to face communication is used to covey the ideas and to understand their feelings. Receiver gets the message in the same spirit in which sender sends the message. Understanding the message is more beneficial for me instead carrying it out. Face to face communication is include direct or indirect communication, direct communication means face to face conversation and indirect communication is through others (Guffrey and Almonte, 2009). Me and my friends planned for a get-together party but I got busy at the last moment. I informed to one of my friend and then he conveyed my message to remaining friends. Technology change the path of conversation by improving the channels of communication. Nowadays, everyone is busy in their lives. They cannot meet each other and interact with each other often, which creates the conflicts between the people. It is helpful because it makes life easy for everyone, allowing people to interact with the help of video calls, chats and pictures (John, 1995). There are many applications for the same. These are Skype, Facebook, Whatsapp and many more. Skype is used for video calls, enabling my friends to communicate on video chats with relatives from the far distances. Nowadays, people usually interact on Facebook, Whatsapp and other applications, especially youth of the country. Even my friends also use these applications for conversing with each other. Mediated interaction is very useful in some places like in business. It bridges the gap between the companies and customers. It is also an aid to curb criminal activities. In the age of modern technology, people push aside humanity from their busy lifestyle (Song, Hollenbeck and Zinkhan, 2008). People who actually prefer social sites for the conversation forget the importance of face to face communication. I noticed that human face expressions and body language helps in correctly interpreting information of their messages and tells about the personality of a person and his lifestyle. At the time of recruitment in the organisation, face to face interview is taken by the interviewer because talking to the person is the easiest way to understand the feelings and reactions of the interviewee. Due to technological advancements, information can be sent and received via emails and other mediated channels, but the whole project and presentation cannot be explained or understood by the receiver (eztalks, 2018).
Face to Face Communication
According to the author, mediated interaction is in the form of social interaction in light of advancements in technology. There are various websites and applications for creating profile to interact with family, friends, share pictures, videos, calls all over the world. This enables people to stay connected with friends and families in every phase of life and from every corner of the world. Students share their notices and homework with the help of new technology and thus it is a help to the students in education. Pictures of criminals go viral and enables to prosecute these criminal with the help of social sites. Communities are also formed through these sites(Knight, 2017). According to Thompson, modern communication changes the human behaviour by stimulating their mind through television and websites. Everyday activities of society are affected by watching movies and TV series. People usually follow television and behave the same in real life by following the characters and getting inspired from them. People have a major interest in clicking the pictures and uploading them on the online applications and also liking them. Author says, mediated interaction has power which can shift quickly, dramatically and in unpredictable ways which can change the social world within minutes. In mediated interaction, money and time is saved by attending the meetings without travelling far distances. But in face to face conversation even a short meeting takes a few hours to travel which is inefficient for the organisation’s time (Eureka conferencing, 2018). For the face to face conversation, a good speaker is necessary to have good qualities of speaking like pitch, body language, and politeness for audience to easily understand the message (Finney, 2008). Mediated interactions develop the trust between the people or it helps like an evidence for the legal work because it is in a written form but face to face conversations are of oral nature. If these are not recorded in the sound recorder, or in C.D. then there is no evidence of the message (QS study, 2018). The author says, Socio-technical factors affect informations through media like by email, video conferencing or from instant messaging and spread the information in government or non-government sector in the world. Face to face communication is oral nature, because of which receiver of the message does not understand the message very fast and then which causes the problems for future (Mehra, 2012). Mediated interaction is better according to the author.
Mediated Interaction
Mediated interaction is more beneficial according to the author but Mediate interaction is not replace the face to face communication. According to my point of view, the best way to communicate with the other person is to look people and tell the person what exactly they need to understand. In Face to Face communication, people can express their feelings, emotions through their facial expressions and reactions. But author said medaite interaction can send the information each and every person by a single click through the emails or from more applications. In Mediate interaction, it cannot possible to understand the feelings and For deliver the good response or feedback it is necessary to understand the feeling and emotions of the person. I observed that the face to face communication is consume less cost because in Mediate interaction, investment is necessary for the network, smartphones, computers, and laptop for sending the text or chats (Jenkis, 2010). But the author said in face to face conversation, transport expense for travelling and accommodation expense for stay was also incurred. According to me, there is no barrier in the oral communication because of the medium. There are various barriers in Mediated communication which cause problems like misinterpreting the message by the receiver. Sometimes it happened, sender sends the message in the emergency but due to the network issue message did not reach to receiver. In face to face conversation person can easily give the information with the feeling and emotions and get quick response in every condition even in the case of emergency (Kurtz, and Boone, 2008) Nowadays, frauds or crimes increased but in the case of oral communication risk of frauds or crime is less as compare to Mediate interaction.
On the social sites, people makes fake pages or websites with the intention of fraud. But author said people change their behaviour by watching movies or series. They react like an artist in the real life. I realised that for boosting the ideas efficiency in the person only face to face meeting is good instead of sitting or spending the whole day on the emails or other social sites. Each and every stage of life teaches the new thing to every person. By interacting person to person people develop their confidence level as well as they are active in their life. Face to Face communication remove the hesitation and stage fear and build confidence. But Author said, Mediate interaction helps to active in current social sites which is good for the society to update in the social world. but it is time wastage and also increase the crime through the social sites by viral the pictures and videos. According to my observation, Face to face conversation is essential for the organisation because to know the reaction of employees is visible when the employees are getting together or they meet each other. Group discussions are also happening in the organisation for solving the problems of the organisation and encourage the employees idea by appreciating them. But in the mediate interaction problems cannot solve by the emails or messages it is very difficult to solve problems on emails or messages. It decreases the employees efficiency or confidence because they only write the things and read the information but cannot speak in the front of people (Rimondini, 2010). According to authors, organisations use computer-mediated communication channels to handle the customer’s relationship. There is a good idea to extend the business to listen to the customer complaints, know about there demands, and get quick feedback from them. But according to me, by using computer-mediated communication channels relation between customer and the company is not good (Haftor, 2010).
Benefits of Face to Face Communication
By comparing the author’s point of view and my experience, I observed that face to face communication is better than mediated interaction. I disagree with the author’s point of view because according to me face to face conversation has no replacement. In this digital age, technology builds the new way of work and communication and makes the life easy like employees can work from home, children get the notes from the internet and from the friends and many more. It was a mistake to consider the face to face communication could lose its importance. Duncan has also admitted that face to face communication is beneficial. Face to face communication develops the trust or humanity which is important for the environment. But in mediated interaction trust is not developed between the persons because of online applications and some online applications are fake. Face to face communication encourages people ideas and creativity by listening to their ideas or reactions about the organisation. But in mediated interaction, people did not confidential with their ideas and also they hesitate to speak in front of an audience. According to me, like many soft skills or with the more benefits of face to face communication has a power in shaping business outcomes, build relations and trust among the people. By analysing the mediate or face to face communication, digital is the last choice and face to face communication is the best choice.
