Benefits of TQM
TQM (total quality management) is the on-going practice that supports the company in eliminating and reducing errors. These faults might take place in the internal business activities such as supply chain management, manufacture and improving the customer experience (Dale, 2015). The assignment is based on Red Rooster, an Australian and New Zealand fast food restaurant chain came into the existence in the year 1972. This report includes the tools and techniques of the TQM (Red Rooster, 2017). The report is written to the owner and Board of directors of the Red Rooster, to make them aware of the advantages of TQM and their implementation.
TQM is an approach that is used by the companies across the world to achieve improvement in their processes that helps the companies to achieve the growth and success (Mitra, 2016). Some of the benefits of the total quality management are discussed below:-
- Increased profitability: – The TQM tool will help the company in identifying the errors and faults in the work along with that it provide a way to remove the errors and faults which enhance the quality of the products and ultimately leads to the appraisal in the profit of the company.
- Increased employee motivation: – The employees are the assets of the company and they contribute to the success and growth of the company. This is the only reason that the employees are valued and are an important part of the business working (Mitra, 2016). In the TQM process the participation of the employees leads to the success of the company and if the company achieved the objectives then the employees will get motived. The success of the company will help in increasing the morale of the employees.
The implementation of the TQM tools and techniques will lead to the changes in the internal working of the Red Rooster.
- The employees can utilize their time on doing other work instead of doing repetitive work. This also encourages the employees to perform their work with quality as working on the repetitive task will reduce the quality of the work done by employees (Catt, 2016).
- The improvement in the quality of products and services will take place that helps the company in improving the customer experiences with the company and leads to the customer’s satisfaction.
- The company will be able to deliver the roasted chicken and other products faster than earlier to their customers. The improvement in the timings of the delivery is possible because of the implementation of the TQM in the company.
The owner and board of directors of Red Rooster can implement the principles of TQM so that these principles can bring the positive improvement in the behavior and culture of the employees towards the work that they are performing (Goetsch, & Davis, 2014).
TQM helps the Red Rooster to convey the improvement in the internal activities or practices of the business. To achieve the maximum of quality the manager of the Red Rooster provides the training to their employees so that they can make use of their skills and capabilities effectively and efficiently. This improved quality of the chicken provided by the company will increase the demand.
The needs and expectation of the customers are important for the company like Red Rooster as they have to make sure that they will be able to fulfill the demands of the customers. There is a dedicated team who make sure that they analyze the needs of the customers through feedbacks shared by the customers on different social media platforms that include e-mail, survey, media, and company’s website (Goetsch, & Davis, 2014). Once the company will be able to meet the expectation of the customers they will be able to achieve customer satisfaction and this customer satisfaction plays a vital role in improving the market share value of the company.
The different departments of the Red Rooster are involved in internal business activities of the company such as purchasing department takes care of the purchase of the raw material for the company. The purchasing department directly contact the supplier so that the manager makes sure that they are buying the quality products. This shows that the Red Rooster is making the use of the strategic approach to bring the improvement in the products that the company is offering to their customers.
The continuous improvement leads to the success of the company. The company provides the training and development to their employees so that they can bring improvement in the quality of the products and along with that they can maintain this consistency in the whole process so that company will be able to complete the strategic goals and objectives. The human resource department of the Red Rooster company tries to hire the employees having skills and capabilities so that they can meet the expectations of the company (Sallis, E. (2014).
The mutual respect and teamwork lead to the growth and success this is the reason each and every company wants to encourage their team. The leaders or the managers of the Red Rooster give respect to their employees and encourage their team member to work together and should each other. This helps the company in retaining the employees by improving the workplace culture of the company.
The implementation of the TQM in the company is done in a systematic way; the company can follow the Deming’s fourteen points that guide a way for the implementation process.
- Creating a continuous purpose towards progress: – The implementation of the TQM leads to the long-term quality of the products and services. Red Rooster can make use of the innovative methods, to face the challenges of the present and future (ASQ, 2017).
- Adopt the new philosophy: – Meeting the expectations and needs of the customer is important for the company in this competitive world and this is the only objective of the company. To achieve the objective the company should make use of new innovative quality products that lead to the accomplishment of the objective.
- Stop depending on inspections: – Most of the companies depend on the inspection knowing the fact that the inspection is a costly and time-consuming process. Inspection won’t lead to the improvement in the quality of the products so Red Rooster should not depend on inspections.
- Contact single supplier for any item: – The Red Rooster should keep the contact with the supplier who can give assurance of the quality of the raw material. The continuity with the single supplier helps the company to maintain the similar quality of the products (Nanda, 2016). This loyalty of the company towards the supplier motivates the supplier to provide the quality of raw material.
- Improve constantly and forever: – The constant and continuous improvement in the quality of the products leads to the customer satisfaction.
- Use of On-Job training method: – The on-job training is one of the beneficial methods for the Red Rooster company. The on-job training is beneficial for the new employees as they can easily understand the work and their roles and responsibilities towards the company (Gimenez-Espin, Jiménez-Jiménez, & Martínez-Costa, 2013). This training helps the employees in understanding the culture and values of Red Rooster.
- Implement leadership: – The manager and leader have to perform their roles and their role is to guide the employees a way to improve and maintain the quality of their work.
- Eliminate fear: – The honest and open communication with the employees helps the manager to avoid the fear of the employees in the Red Rooster company.
- Removal of barrier between departments: – The Company tries to track the cross-functional department that plays a major role in smoothing the working of the business and also works for the removal of barrier between the departments. The Red Rooster company should focus on the collaboration and consensus rather than compromise.
- Get rid of uncertain slogans: – The use of slogans for the communication should be avoided by the manager as these slogans can communicate the unclear message to the employees which lead to the conflicts. The company should always make use of the face to face communication to praise the employees for their work (Bunglowala, & Asthana, 2016).
- Eliminate management by objective: – Company should focus on the achievement of the quality in the products instead of achievement of the goals because the quality of the products will lead to the customer satisfaction which ultimately fulfills the objective of the company. The company should understand the capabilities of the employees to bring the development in their skills and learning.
- Remove barriers to pride of workmanship: – Incentive, work standards, rates, pay, piecework represents administration lack of understanding. The company needs to understand that the monetary benefits will lead to the conflicts in the origination, so Red Rooster should provide the pride to the employees for their hard work and achievement of the targets.
- Implement Self-improvement and education: – The employees of the company should be capable enough to deal the present and future challenges. The Red Rooster can also provide the self-improvement and the education sessions to the employees.
- Make transformation everyone’s job: – Organisation managers provides the motivation to the employees so that they can try to bring the improvement in the work which leads to the quality improvement. The leaders of the company can make the employees understand their role in the quality process. The change in the implementation plan can be brought by the company considering their business needs (Omar, 2017).
Conclusion:
The company wants to grow and achieve success in the competitive world this is the reason behind implement the TQM in the business. The Red Rooster company can easily achieve the success with the implementation of TQM tool for long-period of time. The report is prepared to make the owner understand the benefits of TQM and the changes that took place after implementation (Oakland, 2014). The effective implementation of the Deming’s fourteen points helps the company to bring improvement in the quality of products.
