In the following scene, I think the significant emotional buildup will indubitably lead to a momentous set back. In the following scene, I believe that the Council of Scholars will shun Equality’s discovery because it defies many of the laws of their collective nation and the Council of Scholars are in charge of what the society believes. Rand writes, “But the Council of Scholars has said that there are no mysteries, and the Council of Scholar knows all things·The Council of Scholars has said that we aa know the things which exist and therefore the things which are not known by all do not exist.
“(pg.23, pg.52).The scholars believed that all that they knew was all there is to know and if all men aren’t knowledgeable of the idea, it is simply just imaginary to them. If they find that the subject is contrary to their beliefs, it would most likely lead to dire consequences. The Council of Vocations rebuffs Equality 7-2521 for being “divergent” which for his situation implies being intellectual and cherishing science.
Rather than being made a Scholar, which is the thing that he urgently needs, Equality 7-2521 is made a Street Sweeper. If he was not made a Scholar for those reasons, it is conclusive that The Council of Scholars will reject his invention because they do not share the same thought process as Equality. Furthermore, The Council of Scholars may also see his discovery as an insult to the uniformity of the society. He broke the rule of being alone and doing things by himself.
The text states, “·and the will of all men together is good for all; and so all men must be happy.”(pg.46).The only thing equality must be passionate about his brother and doing everything with sole purpose of pleasing them. Here, his desire can be seen as selfish because he created the invention alone and not with his brothers as he is taught to do. In my opinion the Council of Scholars will try to imprison him, but will not be successful due to the fact that Equality finds significance in his invention and will do anything to let it be known. The book asserts, “We shall put before them the greatest gift ever offered to men. We shall tell them the truth·we shall join our hands to theirs, and we shall work together, with the power of the sky, for the glory of mankind.” (pg.67). The constant use of the word shall depicts his determination in what he seeks out to do. He wants it to be a success regardless of anything that may come his way.as he uses the word shall. Equality is hell-bent on giving his discovery to the world and will stop at nothing to make sure the idea has been taken into consideration and used to make the society enhanced.
