The Birth of Moses
Interviewer: Hello Moses! Welcome and thank you for your precious presence for this interview.
Moses: It is all my pleasure. Through this interview I will be able to convey message of God to you people.
Interviewer: Moses what does your name signify?
Moses: As you all know I am not an Egyptian by birth, rather an Israelite. I was brought up by the princess of Egypt who found me from the water. Moses in Egyptian means drawn from water.
Interviewer: Okay, can you tell me the incident of your birth?
Moses: actually my parents were Israelites living in the territory of the Pharaoh of Egypt. Before I was born, he was warned by the God that a child would be the reason of his death.
Interviewer: Did you kill him?
Moses: No I did not, rather he killed all the new born Hebrew babies in his state to save himself. My mother kept me hidden for three months then put me into a bucket and floated it in the river Nile. The princess of Egypt drew me from the water and took care of me.
Interviewer: in that case you might become the future king of Egyptian why did not you grab the opportunity?
Moses: no, after I found out my actual identity, I started to sympathise with the Israelites because they were dominated and exploited by the Pharaoh. Moreover, they were indulged in communal conflicts among themselves thus were easy to be exploited by the king. I on the other hand used to feel bad for these people and prayed for them to the Almighty.
Interviewer: Was it the reason, that you left the king’s palace?
Moses: yes. I did not like the luxurious life of the palace rather wanted to find peace of mind. This was the reason I left the king’s palace and started to live in the mountains. This helped to realise the love of God to his creation.
Interviewer: I have heard that you saw a bush burning miraculously and heard the voice of God there.
Moses: absolutely right. At first I was amazed with the sight because despite of set in fire the bushes but it did not catch fire at all. With this incident, I have heard the voice of God and his order to choose people from Egypt and lead them to the safer place.
Interviewer: I have heard that God even tried to kill you in your way to save people but you were saved by your wife Zipporah.
Leaving the King’s Palace
Moses: Yes, indeed. God was examining my passion for my people as well as my inner strength and boldness whether I will be able to carry out this tough job. God wanted to rescue His people from Egypt so He wanted to use me to do it.
Interviewer: why do you think he wanted to rescue Israelites from the Egyptians? Why did he wanted to differentiate among people, whereas all the people on the earth are his creation?
Moses: even I was surprised with the situation and found the explanation. It was 430 years back when God promised Abraham that he would have numerous descendants on earth whom He himself would rescue. This is why he asked the Egyptian Pharaoh to free the Israelites from slavery but the Pharaoh did not believe in god. Therefore, he did not agree.
Interviewer: but Mr. Moses, what do you think? Why did God choose you instead of anyone else?
Moses: even I asked him the same question. I asked him how can I Convince people that God wants them to be pure in mind and lead them to the promised land. In response to this, God told me that I was the chosen one from the very beginning and I can do miracles. Moreover, He would always be with us and purify our soul to enter the God’s own land.
Interviewer: was it the reason why many of your followers were hurt by the snakes in the way?
Moses: yes, you are right. I could convince most of them but some people were nagging about the difficulties faced in the way to the new land. This is why they were punished by the snakes send by God. He wanted them to be pure mentally. Therefore, they were hurt and came to me to repent for their guilt. Our lord wants us to repent so that we become a purest of the pure soul.
Interviewer: can you tell me your experience in the Mount Sinai?
Moses: God ordered me to visit him in the mountain which was covered with clouds for six days. In the seventh day I went to the mountain and remained there for forty days and forty nights. As Exodus 34:29-30 says, God delivered me two tablets of stones written ten commandments written in his own hands (Berchie 2016).
Interviewer: Did not you feel confused how will you convince the exploited people to leave their home? Did not you feel afraid of the Pharaoh’s anger?
Encounter with Burning Bush
Moses: if you ask me this, I would say yes. I was afraid of the Anger of the Pharaoh. I knew his anger but I was not worried about myself, but the safety of my people was my chief concern. Pharaoh was too harsh for the Israelites and did not hesitate to kill the new born babies (Berchie 2016). I was afraid that if he come to know about the plan and kill all the people.
Interviewer: how did you know that God was always with you and with us?
Moses: God is omnipresent my child. He is omnipotent. He ordered me to flee with 60000 people in the dead of night though the desert. We were led toward the Red Sea in order to reach the promised land. He leads us with pillar of clouds in the day time and pillar of fire during night. We were flabbergasted with such sights but believed that our father will always save us from our enemies.
Interviewer: How did you know that there will be no problem in escaping in the night? The Egyptian Pharaoh had sent an army behind you.
Moses: yes. You are right. But I am a hard believer of God and believe in his supreme power. I knew he would be doing something miraculous to save us. He hardened the Pharaoh’s heart to attack us and showed the miracle.
Interviewer: At one point of time, you with your people were trapped from all the sides. To your east there was sea and from both south and west, there was mountains. You had no place to escape and the chariots sent by the Egyptian Pharaoh were fast approaching.
Moses: yes, I can remember that impossible situation as we were completely trapped from all the sides. In this situation, I started praying but Lord told me to keep on moving as the Egyptian army was chasing us. Gradually we gathered near the sea (Berchie 2016).
Interviewer: it must be very scary as well as exciting that Lord parted the ocean for you and all your people.
Moses: It was a true miracle. There was no way to move so God opened up the dry path for us through the sea. The water was parted and my people of Israel with all their family and animals, went through the sea on dry ground. All night long the east wind kept the waters parted but when the Egyptian army gather near the sea, Lord wanted to punish them. He made their chariots difficult to drive.
Journey to the Promised Land
Interviewer: I have heard you drowned all the Egyptian army into the sea. Was it commanded by God also.
Moses: yes, all this was of the Lord’s desire. He told me to reach my hand out over the sea. As I did so, the water flowed back and covered the chariots and the entire army. Thus, I reached to the promised land safely.
Interviewer: alright Mr. Moses, it was a great experience for me to interview you.
Moses: it was for me also. Keep believing in God and listen to him. He will be always there to save you from all harm.
Rationale:
By exchanging thoughts with Moses, it became clear to me that Moses was the greatest leader of his time who with his faith on God, love for his people and leadership style overcame all the difficulties to free his people and led them to the promised land safely. The prophetic features in him certainly foreshadow those of Jesus Christ. This connection however is many folded. First of all, both these leaders were Israelites in born. Secondly, at the time Moses was born, the Egyptian Pharaoh was indulged in pedicide. Similarly, when Jesus was born, he was also under threat (Anderson 2015). Thirdly, as Jesus sacrificed his divinity, became a human being and suffered all human suffering to impure us from all our culpability, Moses left the luxury of his life as a prince. He was raised in the palace of the most powerful world empire at that time but lived a life a common man (Wallace 2015). Both of these leaders lowered themselves as they wanted to convey the Lord’s message to the people and bring them to the right path, the path of God. Unlike Jesus, Moses also performed miracles and all of these miracles were for the sake of goodness (Freud 2016). The concept of Seclusion is similar to both of these leaders. Before they entered upon their real mission, both of them spent many time in obscurity. Both Moses and Jesus was first opposed by their own community as they did not believe that Bothe Moses and Jesus had miraculous power and Moses said that they were ready to stone him.
As mentioned before, Moses wanted to liberate his people from the bondage of the Egyptian King hence introduced the ten commandments of God to the people of Israel. This is granted to be the complete Law of God that he wanted the Israelites to follow (Kogman-Appel 2017). He spent almost forty years for the call of God but God did not call him before he grew and matured as well as learnt to be humble and meek before God. From this we learn God’s utilisation of time. However, Moses did not only wait idly for the Almighty’s call but learnt to lead a life of a good shepherd unlike Jesus. After he got God’s call, he felt himself to be infirm due to age but his belief in God’s power was unfathomable.
