Discuss about the Leadership in Business for Interdependent and Membership Perception.
From the chapter 1, I gained my understanding towards the team that could be an important concept for accomplishing any desired goal in the least time. I enhanced my understanding towards groups and teams where I improved my existing knowledge with respect to the characteristics of group and team (Sommer, Howell, and Hadley, 2016). These are goal oriented, interdependent, membership perception, interdependent, structured relations, individual motivation, and mutual influence. I observed that many factors could be considered in a team as it would be beneficial to accomplish a goal like power allocation, leadership, and decision making. I gained my understanding about types and purpose of the team. From this chapter, I enhanced my understanding about causes of using the team in the organization. These causes are business activity control, focuses on productivity, rapid change is necessary, and complexity of the job (Castelao, Boos, Ringer, Eich, and Russo, 2015). It is also evaluated that there are certain factors that could force the organization to use the team in their work like the deal in the global market, technology changes, and contemporary demands, improve productivity, reduce cost, enhance adaptability, and improve customer service. For dealing with diverse management issue related to the technology and distance, dynamic composition, and empowerment (Goleman, 2017). I realized that team could support to obtain reliable outcome with respect to the organizational task.
From the chapter 2, I understood about the team success. The team success could rely on the nature of the task, social relationship, and individual. I also observed that if any project is successful does not mean the team gets success (D’Innocenzo, Mathieu, and Kukenberger, 2016). I also observed that team success could depend on the learning of new skills, rewards from the company, and social support. I realized that when the team members have no trust each other then they could be successful and may be they could fail to accomplish any desired goal. Fear of conflict could fail the possibilities to obtain positive outcome at the workplace. It could also enable the team member to effective make reliable decision towards the organizational task. Inability to connect with team members could directly influence the overall decision of the team (Focht and Ponton, 2015). In last, I have pointed that team makes effort to accomplish their task by influencing from each other activities. In addition, I realized that the team member should possess skills, abilities, knowledge that will be matched with the task. I also observed that members should have been group process skills to operate the business and obtain a reliable outcome. There are two significant conditions that could be imperative for an engaging business activity like making decisions and performing the task (Peltokorpi and Hasu, 2015). I observed that team success could be obtained by task performance, individual development, and social relation. I observed that a team member should be aware of such kinds of factors as it could be effective for accomplishing the organizational task (Senaratne and Hewamanage, 2015).
Understanding Team
From the chapter 3, I gained my knowledge with respect to the team beginning. In this, I gained my understanding towards the stages of group development where I considered many stages like forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. I enhanced my understanding towards group socialization that could be effective for accomplishing the organizational goal. In addition, it observed that group socialization could support for evaluating the positive and negative impacts of turnover on the team (Barnett and Weidenfeller, 2016). Through group socialization, a team member could be capable to understand that there is need to concentrate on roles of the team as compared to the team members. In this section, I gained my understanding of the values and characteristics of a team goal. It could play an imperative role in making a reliable decision towards the organizational task. Through this, the team would be capable to direct each other for the accomplishment of the goal (Mathieu, Kukenberger, D’innocenzo, and Reilly, 2015). In addition, I realized that effective goal could be specific, measurable, clear, Involve team participation, and moderately difficult. I also observed that an effective goal could motivate the team to accomplish their assigned work in an ethical manner and obtain a reliable result. I enhanced my understanding towards the team norms to obtain a positive response (Hawkins, 2017). There are two kinds of norms that could be considered by the team like explicit and implicit. From this, I observed that an individual could be capable to accomplish many activities like create a distinctive identity, express central values, define appropriate behaviour, and coordinate activities. I observed that team warm-ups could be effective in developing a social relation. I also enhanced my understanding with respect to the project plan and team contract as it could be effective for accomplishing the desired task of the team (Zhang, Li, Ullrich, and van Dick, 2015).
From the chapter 4, I increased my knowledge about basic team procedure. In this section, I gained my understanding towards many factors that could be effective in the team leadership like motivation, social loafing, group cohesion, team roles, task and social behaviour, and team adaptation and learning. Moreover, it is analyzed that the motivation could encourage team members to accomplish specified task, evaluation and rewards, team efficiency, and cohesion and commitment. I increased my knowledge with respect to features and ways of group unity building. It would be effective for obtaining the positive response. I observed that the social behaviour in the team could enable the team member to enhance the possibility of obtaining higher profit in limited time and resources (Santos, Caetano, and Tavares, 2015).
Defining Team Success
From chapter 5, I gained my understanding about cooperation and competition as it could be imperative for completing desired aim of the organization. I gained my understanding towards the mixed-motive situations that could be imperative in the corporation. I also increased my knowledge about the type of personality and competition (Zacher and Rosing, 2015). Moreover, it is found organizational rewards could be key caused of team competitiveness in which it considered many components like unhealthy competition, performance evaluation, and manager’s model competition. I also gained my awareness towards issues with competition like intergroup competition, communication, and goal confusion. In addition, it could decline quality of the obtained outcome of the team (DuBrin, 2015). I also gained my understanding towards benefits of cooperation in the team like all members are motivated, greater cohesion, less tension and fewer conflicts, and improved coordination, satisfaction, performance. I also observed that the cooperation could also support to obtain the competitive and cooperative benefits. Through this, I would be capable to deal with the different situation of competition. I also enhanced my understanding with respect to the application of cooperation in the team to obtain a positive outcome (Chin, 2015).
From the chapter 6, I gained my understanding towards the communication as could be effective in conversing with team member and accomplish the reliable outcome. I gained my understanding towards the communication process as it imperative to send the message by the sender and effectively receive by the receiver in the least time. I enhanced my understanding with respect to the transactional model that could be effective for improving my professional and personal life (Bolman and Deal, 2017). Since, it facilitates me to understand the appropriate way of communication. There are certain factors that could be considered in the communication process like verbal communication, non-verbal communication, and communication with the team. I also gained my understanding about many components that could negatively impact on communication process by discussing information already shared and biases. I also gained my understanding towards the flow of a team communications. From the flow of communication, I gained my understanding towards gender and communication, psychology safety, and communication climates as it could be imperative for the accomplishment of team task (Lussier and Achua, 2015). In addition, it is evaluated that emotional intelligence could consider many factors like self-awareness, relationship management, emotional regulation, and empathy. It could support to make effective communication among team members. I also observed that how communication skills are imperative for team meetings. In this, it is evaluated that an individual could ask the question, listen actively, manage to feel, and give constructive feedback. Moreover, it is also analyzed that communication could be imperative to make an effective relationship with others (Lehmann-Willenbrock, Meinecke, Rowold, and Kauffeld, 2015).
Team Beginnings
From the Chapter 7, I increased my understanding about managing conflict as it could support to make an effective relationship with the team member. I analyzed that conflict could be healthy and unhealthy. I realized that healthy conflict could consider many components like concentrate on task concern, legitimate opinion differences, and different expectation towards the impact of the decision. In addition, it is also analyzed that unhealthy conflict could create the conflict between the individuals to accomplish the specified goal (Bolman and Deal, 2017). I observed that conflict could create many negative issues in the team like negative emotion and stress, damage cohesion, interference with communication, and relationship conflicts, and emotional intensity of the conflict. I understood about many kinds of conflict like relationship conflict, process conflict, and task conflict. I also understood many approaches that could be effective to manage the conflict and make reliable relation with consumers. Through this section, I would be capable to manage the team conflict issues in the least time and get a reliable outcome (Lehmann-Willenbrock, Meinecke, Rowold, and Kauffeld, 2015).
From Chapter 8, I gained my understanding of power and social influence that could be effective for making a long-term relationship with other. In this section, I gained my understanding about the general information about the power. I also gained my understanding about types of power in the team. I also observed that role of the power dynamic in the team to accomplish any goal (DuBrin, 2015). I analyzed that empowerment could be imperative to enhance the productivity of both employees as well as the organization. I observed that there are certain factors that encourage to the assertiveness like active listening, clear expectations, positive recognition, assertive withdrawal and saying “no”.
From the chapter 9, I gained my understanding about the decision making that could support to enhance the productivity of an organization. I gained my understanding towards the advantaged and disadvantages of group decision making. I also enhanced my awareness towards the values and approaches of decision making in the team. In this chapter, I understood about many approaches that could be effective in the group decision making like leader oriented approach, group technique, full participation consultative, and democratic. In this, I also gained my understanding about the decision-making tools such as Nominal Group Technique, Delphi Technique, and Ring Technique. It could support to make a reliable decision towards the organizational task (Lussier and Achua, 2015).
Understanding the Basic Team Processes
From the chapter 10, I understood about the leadership that could be an effective component to make a reliable decision. Through this, I gained my knowledge about the types of leader and leader power, which could be imperative to improve my current knowledge of leadership. I also gained my knowledge towards many models of leadership like personality, behavioral, situational, and contingency. I also gained my understanding with respect to the application of the functional approach in the leadership. I observed that the leadership plays an imperative role in leading the team member and obtain a reliable outcome (Lehmann-Willenbrock, Meinecke, Rowold, and Kauffeld, 2015).
From the chapter 11, I gained my understanding towards a problem-solving skill that could be effective to lead the team and obtain a reliable outcome. Through this, I gained my understanding towards many approaches of the problem solving like descriptive approach, functional approach, and prescriptive approach. It could support to eliminate possibilities of the problem in limited time. I understood about the structural approach that could lead individuals to take many benefits like the better decision, increase commitment to implementation, increase satisfaction with solutions, reduce unequal status, and promote equitable participation (Lussier and Achua, 2015). There are certain steps that could be effective for the application of problem-solving techniques like problem analysis, criteria matrix, action plans, and force field analysis. It could support to obtain a positive result with respect to the team goal.
From the chapter 12, I gained my understanding towards the creativity that could be effective to improve the productivity of an organization. I gained my understanding towards the creativity and their characteristics that could be effective in obtaining the reliable result. I enhanced my understanding towards individual creativity and group creativity, which lead to me to practice the creative skills in the working style. I observed that the group creativity could support to obtain many advantages like social interaction can be rewarding, support for implementation, and develop more ideas. There are many factors that could lead to creativity like moderate familiarity, creative conflict, variations of brainstorming, direct experience, and variations of brainstorming (Lehmann-Willenbrock, Meinecke, Rowold, and Kauffeld, 2015). I also gained my understanding towards the application of team creativity techniques like the nominal group, brain writing, and time serves as a buffer. In addition, it is also evaluated that creativity could support to enhance the productivity of organization in the least time and cost.
