Based on the provided current layout of the UCChain HR Office, wastages of motion are noted mainly with regard to walking or moving relatively long distances across the work space to reach machines or other equipment required in the delivery of services in the office. This is specifically noted for the distances between the working stations of the employees and the location of the printer. In case, for instance, an employee in the workstation containing employees 5-16 would like to print, they would have to travel the entire distance from their station to the corner of the building where the printer is located [1].
The location of the printer has not been done for any strategic reasons since none of the intended users can easily use it. This leads to reduced efficiency in operation. The location of the vending machine is equally a form of waste motion. It is situated too far from the employees and cannot easily be accessed as well by those coming to the office but are not employees in this office. This increases the distance moved by either a visitor to the office or an employee from any of the stations resulting in substantial wastages in time and in the end efficiency [2].
