Muslim’s suffer from a fuelled prejudice from the media. Stories, news articles and media coverage of bombings, mass shootings and beheadings continue to dominate the Muslim stereotype creating misconceptions and dystopia. Muslim’s are faced with needing to be rescued from our oppression and fear.
The Islamic community are marginalised through discrimination and stigma in society, but it’s not just them effected. Everyone’s effected as these images feed on the fear of Muslim’s towards the western society. Discriminating a certain religion or race in a society, can create many problems.
Discrimination can result in bullying, fights or even worst war. The actions of a slight number of Muslim’s should not depict the Appearance and Reflection of a whole Religion. Don’t criticise a whole religion, race, or nation just because of a wrong doing of an individual whose ethnic group has no intention of Terrorism. In April 21 a series of coordinated bombings took place in Sri Lanka, hitting 3 hotels and one Catholic Church, A Australian Senator Fraser Anning was quick to make an opinion stating “truly devastating news about the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka.
Once again, Islamic terrorists are responsible. We can no longer bury our heads in the sand about Islam. This cannot be swept under the rug. I was right all along. Islamic populations do indeed create violence”.
Now I have to ask, would you blame all white people for the death of 51 Muslim’s praying at Christchurch’s mosque shooting. Would you make assumptions accusing every white person as a Terrorist just because of the actions of one? Would you disconnect yourself or hold a grudge from the white race because of one human being .
So why blame 1 billion people all around the world with no similarities apart from their religion for the actions committed by several.
The Media manipulates people into believing falsely represented stereotypes as people are feared of the unknown. After 9/11 many blamed the whole religion of Islam, and this created a lot of problems especially the rise of islamophobia resulting in broken community relations and scrutinize innocent Muslim’s.
The culture of fear is a concept provided by the media to incite fear in the general public to achieve a dominant social ideology or a political goal. People who may talk differently, eat differently or dress differently may come out to look bazar or strange and some people may even have fear of them, however this is not the case as many a scared because of their lack of knowledge or because of their sheer ignorance. People are so caught up and scared of the unknown because they know no better. If everyone was educated and got to learn different cultures and religions instead of making quick judgements then there would be no misconception of fear. It’s not right that these innocent people in our community don’t feel at home because of their religion, it’s not right to allow these Harmless Muslim families into our society to then disguise them as terrorists and Harmful people with bad intentions. Many Muslim’s are Distressed and suffering because there scared of the judgement. A misconception can also cause the lives of many, time and time again we see terrorism acts done demonizing towards a certain ideology group or belief as hate crimes are increasing, creating physical and psychological abuse and damage.
In order for terrorism to come to a halt and islamophobia to cease we must let everyone in and restore humanity, restore the world from any misconceptions. We must build stronger community relations to ensure safety, freedom and prosperity in a society. A small group of people can make big changes in the world. If we are to connect with each other, breaking down these basic stereotypes. We can remove the oppression that Muslim’s have to face in the Australian society and rescue them from their suffering.
