Literature can encompass many types of genres like drama, poetry, nonfiction, fiction, prose and more. And in my reading response 2, I had towrite a 15 to 20 line poem about Fahrenheit 451. I used many poetic devices likemetaphor, rhyme, and repetition. My style implemented numerous commas, used anAABB rhyme scheme, and more. My purpose was to inform and entertain the reader.
Throughout my poem, I make use of different types of language, styles, and tryto entertain/persuade the reader to enrich my poem.Style is what sets one author apart from another and creates a voice when anaudience reads.
There are many important pieces that together make up a writer’sstyle including grammar, language, tone, word choice, descriptive technique, andso on. For example, I used rhyme scheme, which is the pattern that the rhymes atthe end of the lines are organized. I used AABBCCDD rhyme scheme. The words inthe third and fourth stanza are flawless(A), thoughtless(A), reading(B), fleeting(B), reading, and beating.
The second style is used is my constantuse of commas in the poem. I use comma carefully and meaningfully because it’salways powerful. A few examples from my poem would be ‘Know no one can read, that’s really lame’ or ‘Now arrested, Montag’s hope is fleeting’. Author’s stylehas a huge impact on the meaning of the workEqually important to the author’s style is the language. The use of language isreferring to all the literary devices. One literary device I use is a metaphor.A metaphor is a figure of speech that directly refers to one thing by mentioninganother through comparison.
An example in my poem is ‘Montag decide that booksare attracting.’ this is comparing books and attractive and it does not use likeor as.
Another literary device that constantly shows up is Caesura. This means abreak between words within a metrical foot. The purpose of using a caesura is to create a dramatic pause, which has a strong impact. Some examples from my poemare ‘Know no one can read, that’s really lame’, ‘When Montag realizes what hedid, he replies with surprise’, ‘As more buyers bought books, building society had a chance.’ The use of language and literary devices in a poem and helpsconvey information and it helps readers to understand their writing on a deeperlevel.Even though, the use of language is integral to poems without purpose the authorwould not have written the poem.
The author’s purpose is why he/she wrote thepoem it can be to inform, entertain, or inform the reader. I wrote my poems toentertain and inform the reader. Authors can entertain readers by makingsomething funny, using words that paint a picture in our mind, adding suspenseto the writing, and more. I entertain the reader by making jokes like ‘If caughtreading, you would catch a beating’. Also, I also include many emotions thatcaptivate the reader’s attention.
The primary purpose of texts that are written to entertain is to amuse readers. This does not mean that the text must be happy; the text could be a tragedy and sad, but the main reason for writing the text isto amuse readers. I also wrote this poem to inform the reader. The primary purpose of texts that are written to inform is to enlighten the reader or provide the reader with information about a topic. I inform the reader of theplot, characters, and themes of Fahrenheit 451. In conclusion, the author’spurpose helps the reader understand why the author wrote the story and that canhelp the reader evaluate the story better.
I reflected on the style, language, and purpose of my poem. Each one isimportant to understand the poem. The style of the poem is all the choices thatare made in order to create the poem’s meaning like, punctuation, diction, syntax and more. The use of language encompasses all literary devices likealliteration, rhyme, and simile. Finally, the author’s purpose is why the authorwrote this story either to entertain, persuade, or inform the reader.
