This MySQL database would be useful for storing information about all researchers, all details of all publications, along with relations between publications and researchers. This database design would also help in improving access as well as searching all crucial data quite quickly. The assumptions considered for this database design are:
- For every researcher profile, this database would record all details of the researcher. Like the first name, email address, last name, and the institution(s) affiliated with.
- For all institutions, the department name along with the institution name would be stored.
- For all publications, this database would store the publication type, title, publication year, list of all authors, name of publication venue, start page number, end page number, short description, along with publisher company. The database would also store some keywords for all publications. In addition, all publications would have a references list.
- For all journals, an issue number and a volume number would be stored.
- For all books, the edition number would be stored.
- For conference papers, the location of those conferences, URL links to those conference events, details of the authors, start date, along with end date would be stored.
- This database wouldn’t record the actual publications; however, the link to all document objects. All publications would be linked to the document objects. For those document objects, this database would store the size of the document and those URL links.
- The researchers could create the publication list as a bookmark. Any publication could be removed or added from that bookmark list of the researchers.
- This database would also store the list of the best 10 publications based on the overall citations of those publications. Different ranks would be used for those publications in that list. For all those ranks, the start date, as well as the end date, would be recorded by this database system.
