Working in Law Enforcement and Retail there is bound to be conflict. It is not always easy to avoid. I tend to approach the conflict with a level head. I have learned early in my work life that arguing back only leads to more conflict. I have learned to also embrace the conflict and be respectful but firm in what I have to say. An example was when I worked as a Jailer. A lady came in to do a bond. She was already over the amount that the State would allow her to be on a bond. One day she came in to do a bond. I informed her that she wouldn’t be able to do that bond. She got mad and started fussing and cussing. I kept my composure and told her that I understand her frustration but my manager and the Sheriff both told me I wouldn’t be able to do it. She eventually left but things could have gotten bad if I had fussed with her. Keeping the situation under control and no argument made our encounter more professional.
