Have you ever thought of something that when the time comes to get a job to have a dream of something you would like to do? Well, George and Lennie’s American Dream was to get a little place, get some cows, chickens, and pigs and Lennie wants to tend the rabbits.
They leave a place called Weed because of an incident with Lennie. When they arrive in a new place they meet a guy named Candy and he wants to go along with George and Lennie.
In John Steinbeck’s Mice of Men shows the American Dream for that of George and Lennie is to get a little place and get some animals and not have to do the dirty work and just live the fat off the land.
George’s American Dream is to get a little place, get some cows, chickens, and pigs and live off the fat of the land. George has a bit of a different American Dream from Lennie because Lennie just wants to tend rabbits and pet other animals.
In the text it says “ we’ll have a cow,” said George. ‘An’ we’ll have maybe a pig an’ chickens . . . an’ down the flat we’ll have a . . . little piece alfalfa – ‘ ‘for the rabbits.’ Lennie shouted. ‘For the rabbits,’ George repeated. ‘And I get to tend the rabbits.’ ‘an’ you get to tend the rabbits.’ Lennie giggled with happiness. ‘An’ live on the fatta the land’.”(Steinbeck 105). this is showing that George is more focused on just getting a little piece of land and Lennie just wants to tend the rabbits. In conclusion, George’s American Dream is to get a little place and get some animals and live off the fat of the land.
Lennie’s American Dream is to tend rabbits and pet the other animals that they would get. Lennie during the whole story is obsessed with soft and furry stuff, during the beginning of the story he pets a dead rat, him and George both left the city weed because Lennie grabs a girls dress and gets scared when she tells him to let go and he didn’t let go so they hid and left, then he gets a dog and he accidentally kills it because it was so small. In the text, it says “ Lennie spoke craftily, ‘tell me – like you done before.’ ‘Tell you what?’ ‘about the rabbits.”(Steinbeck 13). Lennie can only think about rabbits, every time someone tries to talk to Lennie he just brings up the rabbits. In conclusion, Lennie’s American Dream is to tend the rabbits and pet all the other animals they would get.
