A head chef is a professional cook who is highly skilled and is responsible for overseeing the operations within a restaurant. They are wholly responsible for food coming out of the kitchen from the initial stage of conception to that of the final stage of execution. He is responsible for the creation of cuisine that is innovative which provides a satisfactory culinary experience for the guests. The executive chefs take the onus of responsibility for every kind of dish that comes out of the kitchen. They are given complete creative licence within the kitchen and they are responsible for hiring all the other chefs (Salar & Salar, 2014). He is responsible for creating a suitable atmosphere at the workplace. Leadership skill is crucial for the position of head chef as he has to co-ordinate all kinds of activities so that all work gets done within a stipulated time frame. He has to analyze the work environment and work accordingly (Lu, 2016).
As the head chef of Gusman Y Gomez my task revolved around the skill of analytical skills, strategic ability, leadership skills, innovation, decision making, business acumen and precision. A good chef should also be a great business man and should possess great analytical skills. He should think how to make food that is delicious that should also be cost-effective. A chef should put great amount of attention to individual detail and all kinds of measurement should be exact (Lin, 2016). The work environment has to be analysed perfectly so that he can help the organization earn profits. Knowing how to get along with other people is important as co-ordination is an important aspect for this kind of position. A chef should also be capable of making quick decisions so that it does not hinder the growth of the restaurant (Schaefer, 2015).
The results on the basis of the Gall up survey revealed that my analytical skills were strong and this really helps me in carrying out my responsibilities as a head chef in the perfect manner. My leadership skills are crucial as this can help all the chefs working under me to maintain perfect communication so that there is no barrier in the arena of carrying out their respective job functions. My strong strategic ability helps me in doing justice to my position as this role requires great amount of strategic ability (Kuo et al., 2016). Innovation is important in this kind of position because the role of head chef will require thinking of new items that can attract the new-age consumer.
Role of a Head Chef
Guzman y Gomez is a reputed restaurant within Australia and it has stores in Australia along with that of Singapore and Japan. It opened a new store in Sydney in the year 2006 and the company is on the lookout for new countries where they can expand. It wants to open a new store in New Zealand along with Korea. In order to become popular and spread its influence it is of exceeding importance that the head chef should know about the particular kind of taste of the people belonging to those regions. He should have the analytical ability to understand the nature of business and the measures that can be implemented so that it becomes a coveted brand for the people belonging to different cultures and different countries (Desai, Berger & Higgs, 2016). He should be aware of the cultural differences and frame the menu by making use of his strategic and analytical skills.
“For the purpose of making soft taco along with burrito recipe it is important that grilled protein like chicken and fresh fish are used. Raw vegetables that are crunchy should be used like that of shredded cabbage that can help in adding texture. Seasonal ingredient like that of tomato along with corn can also be used. The most important base layer for taco or that of burrito is tortilla and whole wheat tortilla can be used that helps in enhancing the taste”.
I think experimenting with healthy grains can help in making the burritos healthier and rice can be substituted with that of amaranth and these kind of ingredients can fill the consumer up and add a great amount of nutritional benefit to the recipe of taco. Dessert tacos can be used by making use of crepe that acts as a sweet alternative to that of tortilla (Lin, Tou & Yeh, 2014). The crème can be filled with ice cream or that of seasonal fruit and it can be rolled up like that of a burrito.
Vegetables can take up the center stage in case of summery tacos that helps in making easy-prep zucchini. The fiber rich vegetables can act as a great source of Vitamin C along with that of Vitamin A, potassium and riboflavin. These nutrients can help in lowering the blood pressure along with cholesterol level. It lowers the risk of cancer and that of inflammation-related conditions (Carpenter, Graham & Wolf, 2013). All these can help in improving the quality of our food and provide the consumer with a great experience. This will contribute to the growth of the business and help in its expansion.
Skills Required for a Head Chef
Corporate artefacts

These corporate artefacts speak volumes about the great performance delivered by the head chef and his competency in the particular domain where he works (Gill & Prowse, 2016).
“The head chef has great analytical skills and communicates every little thing to us so that the work can be done effectively. He has great introspection with the help of which he can delve deep into the matter and he can very easily connect the different patterns of the organization. He can provide an objective view of things and he is completely unbiased in his judgements. He can easily provide solution to the difficult problems and that provides immense help in carrying out our day to day activity (Fehr & Huck, 2016). I have just started working so I need guidance and he is providing us with all kinds of help that can help us grow and learn within the organization. The matters that other people perceive as complex are solved with great equanimity by our head chef and he can provide a solution to all kinds of problems. He discards the path that does not produce any positive result (Hortacsu et al., 2017). He can easily befriend strangers and that helped me in getting comfortable in the organization”.
“The head chef has great strategic ability along with that of analytical skills and that proves to be great for the reputation of our restaurant. He can solve complex problems with great ease and can find the easy way to all kinds of situations (Schaefer, 2015). A negative side of his character is evident as he gets easily moved by people and other people take the advantage of his sensibilities. He should be able to delegate things properly so that he does not get overburdened with all kinds of tasks and responsibilities”.
My strategic abilities can prove to be fruitful for such an organization that is opening chains in different countries. My innovative ideas can help the brand in growing further and expand its scope. My objective viewpoint in relation to different things can help me in growing in my profession and help me to grow (Lin, Tou & Yeh, 2014). Objectivity is a great mark of a successful professional and helps in providing an unbiased view in relation to different matters. The negative traits in my character relates to the fact that I am really sensitive and other people take advantage of my emotions. Delegation is another important arena where I will have to work as this is extremely important for growing in the organisation and division of responsibilities is important for the perfect working of an organization (Bleich, Wolfson & Jarlenski, 2015).
Conclusion
Self assessment is the first step that can help an individual to navigate the career. It can help an individual in deciding how the strengths can be utilised and how the areas of weakness can be reformed so that it can help in the effective growth of the organization. The ability of an individual to reflect along with articulation of values is crucial for his professional life. The SWOT analysis helped in furnishing important information about the strengths and drawback of my character and that how theses aspects can be handled so that I can proceed further in my career path. My business acumen, analytical ability and strategic skill are my positive aspect and my art of delegation should be developed so that I can evolve to be a more successful professional (Chen, 2014).
